  1. Two quick points... 1) I was able to watch the whole game on DirectTV in Minneapolis on 641 and its going to be on again tonight. I wish someone from Fargo could tell me how this exposure doesn't bode well for a Div 1AA conference bid for all of UND athletics- who wouldn't want the Minneapolis, Milwaukee, and Madison markets at least 4 times a year? 2) They actually used the FIGHTING SIOUX name during the whole game - Finally, someone gets the message that you can drop the PC and play Hockey!!! BOBIWABUCHIFAN
  2. To all, Lets be real about this Siouxfans, the Fargo guys have a point...GF is a really small market that only includes the Minneapolis, Milwaukee, and Madison areas when they are playing Div 1A College Hockey games. So just like the Fargo fans say, lets not get all hyped up about the BSC because they really don't care about the exposure we could possibly bring to UND athletics, ND, and the BSC in general when we are being telecasted for hockey games - for Christ Sakes its only hockey and who the hell watches hockey? To that extent, I must say I enjoyed watching Fighting Sioux Hockey on 641 last night and I'm sure there was a significant amount of viewers in the Minneapolis and Milwaukee/Madison markets who watched as well. Needless to say, I would like to see the UND football games on TV as well and hopefully they can figure out how to televise those games as well with FSSN - Again, considering we are small market when compared to Fargo and thus should not get our hopes up that any conference would want the small market exposure college hockey brings to the table. BOBIWABUCHIFAN
  3. Too bad they didn't use these two on their O'line...Maybe could have actually run against the Bison a little!
  4. So how do you like those apples? or was it oranges? BOBIWABUCHIFAN
  5. The arguement is not based on who can get to 14k first, but rather the proposition offered by many Bison fans on this site that they are leagues ahead of us in Football because of their large market share and that we would have to beg to play them in the future due to this awesome market share. My analogy was that since you claim to have this significant margin of market share over UND, a rationale person would assume that NDSU would also have the larger student population given that both schools are on growth strategies. The simple fact is that UND is a larger student body and thus the market theory seems to wither when that fact comes to light. Actually, I'll go as far as saying that the market share is actually better for UND than NDSU and thus it is why we have more students and will most likely hold onto this edge into the future. BOBIWABUCHIFAN
  6. Biff, The arguement was stated as so because the NDSU fans seem to think they have this huge market and little ol' UND doesn't...All I was trying to show is that given the hypothetical that their market is bigger than UNDs therefore we should expect they college size to be bigger due to the 'extra' exposure given by the supposed market. Lastly, ND is a private institution that restricts its size anyway and isn't on the like growth plans stated by the ND schools....Anymore ?s BOBIWABUCHIFAN
  7. Bison Dan, What's illogical about it? Its really the same arguement I hear from the Herd everytime they tell us poor little folk up North why they are the best thing since sliced bread! "Oh the Midcon loves us because we are a bigger market than UND...Blah, Blah, Blah...", "UND can't compete against such a big market as NDSU and FARGO", and "The Sioux will have to beg us to play them because we control the biggest market! Blah...Blah...Blah..." If you think my arguement is illogical, then you must have gotten sick of drinking your own kool-aid pal! BOBIWABUCHIFAN
  8. Hammer, Nice work on skirting the question...I'll make it really simple...Why isn't NDSU the bigger enrollment school if it has such a supposedly larger market presence than little ol' UND?? Truth hurts sometime doesn't?? BOBIWABUCHIFAN
  9. Maybe someone from Fargo can help me out on this one....Hopefully my math is correct... If Fargo's population is greater than Grand Forks Population, then why does UND (12,954) have more students registered than NDSU (12,258) for CY06?? (http://www.UND.edu/profile/ vs http://www.ndsu.edu/news/index.php?ID=497&...ublish_article) So if the above is true, why is there a bigger population of students at UND vs NDSU when Fargo is suppose to be this huge market of people that only hear about NDSU's supposed atheletic and academic progress at the expense of the small market folks in GF? Why is the supposedly small market that UND serves still producing higher enrollment numbers than its D-IAA neighbor to the South? Could it be that they are not the big market they think they are? BOBIWABUCHIFAN
  10. It would be nice if the students wouldn't sign up for his courses...If I remember correctly, if a professor did not have at least 10 students finish the semester then they would not be paid for full class duties. In addition, the class would be subjected to additional review by the university. Sounds crazy, but I remember many teachers at higher level classes who had to beg students to stay to keep the minimum level for full payment (e.g. Differential Equations II). Wouldn't be too hard to stage protests in the form of not signing up for their class and asking for a different teacher, especially if you are paying tuition, and then allowing the university to state that as the reason for dismissal. Just a thought... BOBIWABUCHIFAN
  11. I am extremely happy with the State and the University going forward on this, but I would feel extremely secure if the legislation was also being followed up on to cover us in the situations where the court is skewed towards the politically correct crowd. If we get this processed in court, there is nothing stopping them from countersuing in a higher court, but if the legislation is passed it gets extremely hard for the courts to overturn legislation especially if its based on precedent. Just my 2 cents... BOBIWABUCHIFAN PS PCM, nice work grasshopper! I love it when common sense and logic prevail over BS PC!!!
  12. The funny thing about the letter was that it really didn't ask for additional donations..Does this mean they feel they have enough resources financially to prosecute this successfully at this point? I'd prefer not to try to grab the pebbles from your hand master and leave Shangri-la...Rather, I would just like to apply a flying side kick to the NCAA policies behind!! BOBIWABUCHIFAN PS Any other news on the legislation being pushed in the House? It would be nice to have the law on our side as well as just principle.....
  13. This weekend I got a thank you letter from the group who is representing ND in the case against the NCAA. Did anyone else get the letter and do we have any specific date frames in October as to when the action will be taken in court? Also, I am assuming this is going to be done in Federal Court correct? Lastly, is there any reason why we couldn't have a webpage for this organization created and thus linked with this site so we can get up to date information on the progress of this case? Just a thought....Any feedback would be greatly appreciated... Thanks, BOBIWABUCHIFAN
  14. Why not push the government to stop recognizing/allowing the NCAA to be the social arbitrator for what is right or wrong...This will not be solved by a case in the courts because the courts will change. I recommend continuing to ask Earl Pomeroy why he won't vote for the legislation and engage the newspapers again to bring up the issue again. It is when we expose the PC aspect of this to direct light that it becomes apparent how arbitrary this really is! BOBIWABUCHIFAN PS I hope the case starts soon because my donation shouldn't have to go to more talking about the issue, but rather court action against the NCAA ASAP.
  15. Again, the pressure needs to be applied on our pal, Earl the Representative. We should be picketing his ass everyday he hides between the indian PAC money and the DNC PC action committee. Everytime we bring up another example of the hypocrisy of the NCAA and then show it again for all to see I just wanna puke...Its not going to end until we pass the legislation. Lets start talking about that again and see if we can shake up a hornets nest of responses to the Fargo Forum, Grand Forks Herald, and the Bismark Tribune...Any takers?? BOBIWABUCHIFAN
  16. To anyone who is connected to the case... Are we any closer to actually submitting a complaint to the court against the NCAA? I was hoping we would have done this before the football and hockey seasons started so we could angle for an injunction against the NCAA in their application of the faulty policy on nicknames. Just looking for some feedback from knowledgeable sources... BOBIWABUCHIFAN
  17. Once again, WYOBISONMAN comes through and makes an honest comment without the rest of the Fargo Slant! I can say with all honesty that I actually respect your comments and hope you contine to provide your input on this board! Good luck to real Bison fans like yourself! BOBIWABUCHIFAN
  18. Jeepers, this a little arrogant coming from a School that hasn't even been accepted.."NDSU will be looking east; building the Mid-Con, and if moving anywhere be looking at the MVC or Horizon. The Bison probably wouldn't go anywhere for a decade, if ever, and by then we identify ourselves as a Midwest team." The above is the same arrogant sh$t I hear from my relatives in Fargo. Especially a couple of years back on how UND would disappear from the sports map and how NDSU was going to be accepted by BSC and how title 9 was going to be changed to allow the Bison to reap the benefits..Yah, yah, yah...Same ol' crap as last time. Hopefully this is something most NDSU folks can understand or accept: You may have a jump on us by a couple of years, but after a couple of years it will be back to usual with the town 75 miles north delivering the bad news in the Fargodome and walking away with a very large 5 cent piece.
  19. My response would be that I countered my negative comment about the bison fans with a postivie comment stating that i wouldn't want the players to be injured so they could continue the good run they have had in Div 1AA. Where is the hatred in that? Honest dislike yes, but no, not out and out hatred... BobIwabuchiFan
  20. Since everyone is beating on poor ol' DaveK, I thought I would put my 2 cents in as a Hockey Fan First and then a Football Fan second. The Bison will lose in Minneapolis and will lose badly- plain and simple...This is not Montana boys and these kids are actually drafted without any real relfection on their grades, but rather their strength, speed, and skills on the field. Again, there will be some kids that match up with Minnesota rather well, but you need to match up with them on all of the positions or over time the talent beats you down. I for one will not be going to the Dome to cheer on the Minnesota Gophers, but rather to cheer on the defeat of the Bison football team and their lovely fan base. My only positive wish for the Bison is that they don't end up having significant injuries as I do believe they are a strong team in 1AA and have a definite chance at scaring the hell out of the old gaurd at this level. BobIwabuchiFan
  21. Jeez, Don't you know that you have to wear rose tinted glasses because its the only type that cuts down on the reflected light from the 7 NCAA Division I Ice Hockey Champion trophys! PS Standard $4 glasses from 7-11 should work fine on viewing your Div II collection or do you even recognize that anymore since you are Division IAA? BobIwabuchiFan
  22. Heres my take on this..trash it or support it... Bison take on the MN Gophers in Minneapolis...End result is that the Bison are beaten thoroughly and come away from the game with really nothing to build on and potentially critical injuries to key players who now cannot help them in their own conference run. Although they pocket $300k, they potentially put their season in jeopardy for the pay day and have a significant mental block in the future when playing these teams. or Bison take on an opponent who offers less cash, but allows their team to take away critical experience and really learn about their team and their progress to date. Even if they lose, they keep their pride and the team and the coaches learn significantly from the experience. Hell, they may even beat them like they did when they played Montana or if its close they walk away with a chip on their shoulder and mad as hell for the next guy! Lastly, I have a hard time saying that your Basketball upset translates into a potential upset in basketball for the following reasons... 1. Football is brutal agression where physically pounding your opponent is expected and not the anomaly. Basketball has hand checks, forearm pushes, and some body contact, but nothing like knocking the sh$t out of somebody and not even thinking about getting a foul. 2. Speed at the Big Ten football level is more easily converted to scoring in a football size field as opposed to the slow down created by ball control and milking the shot clock. 3. Basketball really requires that you have 5-7 atheletes total to compete, where the football teams at Div 1AA and 1A have wide dispersions of talent, speed, and size in football. Granted, NDSU may match up with some positions in basketball, the matchups will be minimal when comparing positions on the football field where you need to have at least 30-40 athletes to match up against the other team. So, I hope you the best, but also I hope you don't get whooped because that will actually reflect on all of us and not just the folks in Fargo! BobIwabuchiFan
  23. My hope is to remove the my school is better than your school arguement from the rest of the sports posts and let it ride here...Note, please utilize facts as opposed to your feelings when making your case. Examples would be recognized articles or studies as opposed to "I really feel we are better because its in Fargo vs Grand Forks, and vice-versa". BobIwabuchiFan
  24. Lets start a chat topic about the following... "What documented and measurable evidence exists that shows a positive correlation between advancing a level in athletic division and academic improvement on campus?" Any takers...If so, look for my post today because this string will devolve into a comparison of academic strengths vs Potts and NDUS. BobIwabuchiFan PS NanoBison, why did you change your nerdy icon to the buffalo??
  25. I really think the primary reason now at this time is the population difference....If we consider Grand Forks only, they play section 8 competition on a regular basis and the city of 60k has at least 5 indoor rinks and multitudes of outdoor rinks. The city also sends talent as a percentage of population that I believe is equal to other states to the College hockey ranks (I believe USHO or College Hockey On Line did a study on %s based on each state) and also in the USHL. In the past, I would have agreed with the coaching and rink availability, but I believe that difference is pretty much nil today. BobIwabuchiFan
