  1. That may indeed be the case, but Don Lucia has been on record as saying it wouldn't bother him if it became commonplace to recruit kids after they verballed. Wonder why that is?
  2. Don't you think the same thing could have been said when Jordan Parise was playing rather than Phil. When you have a goaltender playing as well as Phil, it is hard to want to throw in someone else, even if that person might warrant playing more.
  3. Same here. I don't buy much, but would definitely buy some for the glass itself. It might be hard for them to understand the mind of the average Sioux fan. Not that I'm average mind you.
  4. Yeah, it's too bad we won't have TJ "Oshman whose your dadda" around for another year. He appears a man among boys this year. Can you imagine another year to dominate? I find it odd that we have great players like Oshie and Duncan and they aren't promoted as much as they could be. Why they don't have the beer or pop glasses with the 3D photos like they did with Parise is beyond me. They could also sell the mini donuts as Duncan donuts at a reduced cost when he scores a goal. I think the promotion department is missing the boat on them a bit. Of course the fans could do more with it too. Fans could put their arms in a big "O" when Oshie is introduced or scores a goal. I guess maybe we'll have to wait for the next batch of stars to promote them better.
  5. Also interesting that Red River might have done the best job of holding down Ness, Landman and Roseau. In fact, save for one questionable call late in the game and Red River might have not only shut out Roseau, but might have been the only blemish for Roseau and Mike Lee. Lee sure proved his worth in that game, stopping no less than 4 breakaways. Nice to see the best teams in North Dakota very competitive with the best teams in Minnesota.
  6. Looks like in a year or two, the Sioux might have 3 of the best skating defensemen they have had, with Gleason, Genoway and Marto. By adding the beef in Blood, Fienhage, and MacWilliam, they will have a nice mix. Looks like they've got a nice start beyond that too with Clarke and Mattson.
  7. Could just be that you hear that because that is the circles you are around -- Sioux people. Not doubting that some feel that way, just that guys like Ryan Walters and other top-end talent aren't flinching at verbaling to the gophers. I suspect we will always get our share and vice versa. There are always players around this area that aren't always pre-disposed to want to play for the Sioux either. I would have been absolutely giddy if the Sioux could have landed Aaron Ness. Of course we want all the top-end guys, but it makes for great battles in the future when we each get our share of blue-chippers.
  8. I don't think it will ever be the case where the gophers have no chance against the Sioux and vice versa. Too much of a rivalry to be that one-sided. I remember years where you would have thought there was no chance the Sioux would beat the gophers and did, and remember being on the other side of the spectrum. Remember, the first sweep they had in Minneapolis since 1981 came only last year, and there have been some awesome Sioux teams that have come and gone since then.
  9. what makes him an asshole??? he might "hate" the sioux program but he respects the hell out of it, give us credit when it's due, and LOVES the rivalry between our beloved team and his beloved team........so i repeat...what makes him an asshole??
  10. I am by no means defending bad behavior, but every fan base has a contingent of idiots. Remember, they are hesitant to give out anything at UND games for fear it will get thrown on the ice at inopportune times. The lack of respect for other people is rampant everywhere, not just sporting events. It would be nice if more people would live by the Golden Rule, but I'm not holding my breath.
  11. Keep in mind that the coaches chose to bring in Frattin this year rather than Gregoire, so they evidently thought he would help more this year, whether that was due to injury and a short season last year by Gregoire, only the coaches can say. While I think they will do well, skating circles around people as a freshman is a tall order and it is a crapshoot who will adjust right away.
  12. Don't the Sioux play at Mariucci next year?
  13. So if someone comes and slaps you upside the head you will do nothing? Good to know!
  14. Thanks for the examples. It definitely makes Gwoz look like the ultimate hypocrite. His guy looked like Ralphie in the Christmas Story throwing down with a bully, except Gwoz would have you believe that everyone else is the bully except for his saintly players.
  15. If there is, then it better involve the officials as well as any players.
  16. Although I don't agree with those who don't believe fighting can serve a purpose in hockey, I can respect their point of view. What makes me sick are those that decry fighting, then when their guy fights and wins, stand up and cheer wildly. Seems to me there are a lot of Minnesota and Denver fans that live by that premise, yet there are few people left in their seats when their guy comes out on top. Gwoz conveniently forgets the biggest unwritten code in hockey, don't check someone into the boards when they are helpless, especially when it is known that the whistle is about to be blown anyway.
  17. ... and people went crazy over some minor altercations in the Sioux vs. gopher series. I would bet that Wisconsin and Mankato have a few altercations that surpass what went on the other weekend.
  18. What did I tell you about Puffy. Now two weeks later, he says Denver is awful and the Sioux will mop the floor with Denver. Just 2 weeks ago only 2 WCHA teams had a chance at the Frozen Four according to him, Denver & CC.
  19. The phrase "one of the most overrated players in the WCHA" is where I take issue. I certainly would take those goals on my team. If you measure him in light of being a #5 overall pick, then maybe expectations are higher. I'll tell you one thing, he is the player I worry about the most on Minnesota when the Sioux play them.
  20. Can we be a little objective and put the incident last weekend in perspective? Wheeler does have more goals than either Duncan or Oshie. Not saying he is better, but he obviously has a good deal of talent.
  21. What Hakstol did was wrong, but what you say is correct, the gopher fans will and do say "dirty Canadian". Fill in any ethnic group after dirty, and tell me then how many gopher fans have class.
  22. Mike McNamara was just talking about this. I tend to agree with him that FSN is just asking for it by showing heated arguments like this, and they indeed might even want this to get on TV. Let's face it, everything on TV now is about conflict, and FSN is just trying to take advantage of that. If they were like Denny Green, they would take the high road and not show it. Hakstol screwed up, but it kind of echoed the sentiments of Sioux fans that can't believe that Duncan's check from behind get's him booted and whoever checked Trupp from behind is allowed to get off, while the gophers got a powerplay out of the deal. Obviously Hakstol is held to a higher standard than the fans, and should be, but Adam needs to be judged on his poor checking from behind judgement in the past and present.
  23. I just think coming from a guy who doesn't believe Holy Cross was that big of a upset, that he would not be "shocked" if a Top 3 team from the best league in the county makes it to the Frozen Four.
  24. I say if they are having second thoughts it might be best not to have them stay and be unhappy and possibly create a less than desirable lockerroom presence. Not saying this kid would have done that, but he has a right to go where he will be happy. Remember, many of us had no problem with Jason Gregoire changing his committment to Denver in hockey. What does bother me is recruiting a player after he has verballed. But you know the old saying, what goes around comes around. Don't know the specifics on the Cavil case, so I won't comment on that situation.
