Not really going out of the family hiring a head coach, when he was a previous assistant at UND.

My bad; just meant that they actually hired someone who wasn't a former player.

He was a UND assistant coach for 8 years.

But yeah, nowadays it seems even our assistant coaches need to former UND players.

You're right, I was thinking more along the lines that he actually played for Minnesota.

Can also put him on the list of possibilities, sounds like he has a very high drive to succeed. Only concern is that former alum who carry some weight in the UND hockey community might push for one of their own, a good ol' boy.

Would be ideal if the AD used an advisor or formed a small selection committee of those knowledgeable in the sport when searching for & interviewing the applicants, so that the best possible candidate can be chosen ... to prevent the AD, who probably has no clue about hockey, from making a disaster with the next hire.

Last time UND hired outside the "family" they got Dean Blais.  That seemed to work out pretty well for everyone.

Can you imagine as a one seed being rewarded with a first round matchup against Cornell?

Is that good?  I see they are #17 in the Pairwise as of right now.  I know the Sioux didn't play well against them this season.

I just want to thank everyone over the last 20+ years who ever showed up at this event, especially the group that came out today.  I started this in 2000 or 2001 I think as a way to put some faces to the names of the board monikers.  I had no idea it would go on this long.

@jimdahl, the fun you have brought us since you started SiouxSports.com way back when just never ceases to amaze me.  Many of these monikers on the board met in person thanks to you and I swear, most of us still don’t know or can’t remember each other’s real names!  We’ve said our goodbyes to online friends like @sprig and @Yttrium and made new ones along the way.  Others, like @YaneA and @redwing77have simply disappeared from posting, and I sometimes wonder, “whatever happened to that person?”.  I’m sure I’m not the only one.  I’ve become personal friends with folks on this board and again, I’m sure I’m not the only one here who can say that.  Thank you for all you have done to keep this site going over the years.

A good chunk of today’s group stayed for almost 3.5 hours talking, laughing, and enjoying each other’s company.  Tom and Jossie, the owners of the Hoggsbreath, asked me to thank everyone as well for stopping in over the years.

@Goon, thanks for convincing me to do this one last time, I wouldn’t have done it without you talking me into it.  For the folks who joined in along the way, @NorthDakotaHockey, @Wilbur, @Fader, @Blackheart, @Oxbow6, @Godsmack,@fightingsioux4life, @mn_sioux, @Ice Arena Man, and so many others, I hope our paths cross in person again soon.  It won’t be at the X or the Hoggsbreath every March like the good old days, but don’t be strangers.  You know where to find me.

The last rodeo.  It was a fun one.

Sorry I couldn't make it Mafia, but I really enjoyed the one time I was able to participate.  Just know that any time you are in the Twin Cities you are welcome to come buy me a drink.:D

Which makes it inexcusable that Croal sat as often as he did. He is the one player that jumped out for his tenacity on the forecheck. But maybe that was frowned upon by the coaching staff because it was outside of the “system”?

    Agree 100%

I’ll be interested to listen to Schloss and Feldy’s podcast this week and beyond. I wonder if they’ll express any of the same sentiments as the fans here or if he will cite statistics that say we should’ve won the game last night.

I’m betting he goes with the stats.

OK you rate him an A.

I reserve that type for guys who win more than one Frozen Four game in game in 11 Years (and never winning a FF game after year one) but that's just me.

Theres no hypotheticals in these scenarios. We have 11 years of actual Hakstol data to show what he can do as UND head coach. He literally never "built the program to higher grounds (in peak data points)."

Follow me for more as we talk more about the "mean, median, and mode" for those who fell asleep through statistics class.

Sorry, never did well in stats.;)

I think you are mixing up your teams. The team that could barely get 4 lines was in 2012. They lost to the Gophers in the regional final. The 2014 team was young on D and was carried by Zane to the Frozen Four.

Wasn't 2012 the Pony Express that lost to Michigan in the F4 semis?
