  1. It wouldn't hurt to get an inning or two more from the starters as well. Getting 4/5 innings from the starter adds to the bullpen strain. In the (5) blown games the bullpen pitched a total of 23 innings.
  2. I have zero information about the particulars of this situation. That said, the administrative process which was followed is completely different than a criminal proceeding. The statement that he was "charged" is misleading as best. He was not criminally charged with anything (outside a DUS). The evidentiary rules, finders of fact, and burden of proof are all vastly different in the admin proceeding vs. a criminal case. The standard to charge him criminally would be much more analogous to the final admin burden. The alleged victim does not charge anyone, the State (or Feds) does. I'm making no statement about Otis, but when anyone comes before an administrative tribunal the odds are incredibly stacked against them. When the situation involved an institution of higher education, the odds get much much worse.
  3. Taken from the Sinclair parking lot.
  4. Do you have any idea on how Berry has handled the scholarship dollars? Who's scholarship dollars were cut or eliminated to bring in the (4) Freshman(F)? How does Berry pushing non-scholarship players to the portal assist in bringing in a scholarship player? Do you believe Spicer would come in with no scholarship? None of this is just a simplistic player-for-player analysis.
  5. I think the point is that having Budy go to the portal will NOT free up any scholarship money.
  6. They’re starting a new college?
  7. Jost isn't star, but he's a solid NHL player who has earned more than 10m and is still in his early 20's. While we would have loved to have him another year, the kid's done pretty well for himself and his family.
  8. Caught a big break by having Minot lose their first game and not facing them in the come back game. The bottom half of the west was pretty even (and very bad). I can’t imagine a 9 seed had ever qualified for state.
  9. I don't know what you guys expect. Compared to comparable communities we get way more blue-chippers. Like it or not, Michigan, Minnesota, Boston Schools, etc... have a huge advantage with many kids over a GF, Duluth, Mankato... based on the city. For a kid from a metro area, moving to GF is more of a shock than someone from GF moving to Hazen for college. Throw in that there are around 5 "blue-chippers" each year we aren't getting one every year. The number of high end guys we get is really quite amazing.
  10. It appears, on average, there are 5/6 "blue chippers" per year. Out of those, a good chunk have to be basically unrecruitable based on ties to particular programs. There's probably around 3 "blue chippers" per year that are actually in play. Every team is in on those guys. Landing one of them every few years is pretty impressive. Our facility and history are second to none, but living in GF has to be a big turn-off to some of those kids. Over that last decade how many recruiting battles has Minnesota won? Their blue-chippers all seem to be guys that aren't going to seriously consider other schools.
  11. No other teams were interested in Sanderson?
  12. If the current team is anything like teams of the past, the players would kick his butt if he was selected for the Olympics and declined.
  13. I've watched some games out in the West. Pretty rough year from what I've seen. The Bismarck teams have definitely taken a hit being divided (3) ways.
  14. Ian Kidd wants to go to Detroit too!
  15. The essential elements of the 3 charges aren’t particularly intuitive. For the 2nd degree murdered charge there didn’t need to be a specific finding of intent to kill, only a casual relationship to the death while committing another crime. Essentially, were Chauvins actions a substantial causal factor in Floyd’s death while using unreasonable force? As an analogy, I rob a bank and point a gun at the teller. She dies of a heart attack. I still committed 2nd degree murder in MN even though I had no intent to kill anyone. The juror made the determination that there was not reasonable doubt that Chauvins force was excessive, and that the use of force played a role in his death. For what it’s worth, in ND I think this is a negligent homicide, C felony case.
  16. My point was that the defense doesn't need to prove anything. The state needs to prove each essential element beyond a reasonable doubt.
  17. “Bad Legal Takes” on Twitter would love that one...
  18. With a federal indictment pending if acquired he really couldn’t testify. There was zero chance of him testifying. That the defense didn’t request a mistrial for the Brady and other prosecutorial issues the defense had to be pleased with the progression of the case. They only made that motion at the end of the case. In his denial, the judge specially indicated that it was a valid appeal issue. There are tons of legitimate appeal issues. I’d guess that the odds favor the granting of a new trial.
  19. I’m not a Rocco fan at all, but I’m confident you could have made those 2 plays, much less an MLB player. Could not have been more routine.
  20. In my opinion all of those fall on Rocco.
  21. It comes down to balancing giving more kids the opportunity to play versus potentially competing for championships. With (3) teams they will be very watered down. The chances of competing with the top east teams would be cut dramatically. I personally don't buy into the argument that creating a 3rd team will cause kids not to play, or for more kids to take the junior route. It's essentially the same situation with their girls team.
  22. Anyone know what backdoor communicates are happening with players on other teams? I wonder how much recruiting is going on. Can coaches take a call from a player who is interested in joining another program but hasn't yet entered the portal? As someone mentioned, do you pick a few mid-level guys or wait to see if some highly touted guys jump ship from their current team.
  23. I sure hope not. The top programs will benefit from this, but I don't want to constantly have one year mercenaries picked off from the lesser programs. And for the lower level teams, it's gonna stink to be losing your top guys who jump ship to try to play in the NCAA tournament or win a championship.
  24. The Pfizer vaccine was 100% effective for 12-18 year-olds in a study released today. The placebo was only 99% effective.
