  1. Newman footed the bill for all the banners that are hanging in the Alerus Center........................
  2. Hooker looked great tonight..........................
  3. Can anybody comment on Traylor's situation? I entered this season assuming we'd have Brekke and Traylor. Apparently Brekke is done according to the info here. If Traylor is not going to be available as well, that changes expectations greatly.
  4. What are you talking about? Basketball? Volleyball? Denver is good at hockey and skiiing and nothing else. Denver has never been to the NCAA tournament in Men's Basketball. They've had a nice few years recently because of a good coach. They are a huge hockey rival. That doesn't mean anyone gets excited for them in other sports at this point. Might as well join the NSIC based on this so we can see St Cloud and Duluth in every sport based on your logic. You say "who give !@#$ about playing Big Sky schools? I say who gives a !@#$ about playing Summit schools. In the Big Sky, we get to play one of the best 50 college basketball programs of all time twice a year according to ESPN. You don't think that will make North Dakota better? What is the difference between playing the South Dakota schools vs. the Montana schools? They are both border battles. If we are talking about college basketball, the fact that you think our conference schedule is "yawn-fest", then that tells me you no nothing about college basketball. We tried from the day we started the transition. When UND moved to DI there was no effort to get into the Big Sky. It was all about the Summit and the Valley. After the nickname issue was put to bed, the Summit basically said yes, the MVFC said no thanks. You think the Big Sky is a loser? HA HA HA HA HA HA HA!!!!!!!!! I liken the Big Sky to the old WCHA. It has its niche. It is hands down the best in the main sport that it focuses on, which is football. It is anchored by some brand name state schools that carry some weight. It doesn't have its best schools looking to move on to a "greener pastures" every single year................
  5. Anybody else here gonna be in Davis this weekend?
  6. Well I hope he's just got a cold or something. It would be a real buzz kill if we have no Brekke or Traylor this season
  7. I initially wanted Hooker to redshirt, but upon further consideration, I say we go all in this year. If he's as good as all the hype suggests, he can only make the team better regardless of how limited his role is. High expectations this season. Might as well push it to the limit. The best players play..........
  8. I've said it before and I'll continue to say it until I'm blue in the face. Being in the Big Sky gives us the best possible combination of attractive opponents for our home schedules and "access" to our rivals. Hands down, case closed, it is not even close. We play Nebraska-Omaha, NDSU, SDSU, and USD in in almost every single sport. Denver continues to be arguably our biggest rival in our #1 sport. We also play Montana, Montana St., Weber St., and Northern Colorado multiple times every year. There is no possible better arrangement. 100% positive we could get into the MVFC? BS. We tried for about 4 years and they wouldn't even talk to us. The Big Sky CAME TO US. The Summit will will rival the MVC? BS again. The Summit has had a nice run the last few years, no doubt about it. But they, like the Big Sky will always be a low-major basketball league, a one bid league. And where are these reports that Oral Roberts is going to rejoin the Summit coming from? Seriously, I can't find anything.
  9. Probably at about 9:15 p.m. tonight.......................
  10. When we beat Wisconsin, that will boost our RPI ensuring a higher seed in the dance after we win the Big Sky Tourney.!!!!!
  11. Just gonna throw out a couple regional names for discussion: Scott Underwood Aaron Keen
  12. Looking forward to visiting Aggie Stadium this weekend. I was there in 2009 also. It is a nice venue to watch a game.
  13. Without pouring over the stats, I feel like the defense has played better this season. Seems like they've at least been able to get off the field in some key situations several times this year. That didn't happen last year......
  14. I don't see the problem with hiring a coach that has spent time at the program before. Obviously it worked very well in the cases of Lennon and Thomas. Not so much with Behrns and Mussman. Gasparinni, Blais, and Hakstol have all done pretty well. I don't think not having any ties to the University should be a prerequisite for employment. Just so long as they are qualified. There is nobody on the current staff that is qualified. Mussman getting the head job was a unique situation. There was no A.D. at the time to conduct a national search. Lennon endorsed Mussman when he left. Hence, he got the job. Honestly though, if there were an A.D. in place at the time, my guess is that Mussman still would have been a leading candidate for the job given that he was a key part of a very successful era of UND football and the backing of Lennon. Lennon is on the hot seat at Southern Illinois right now, he had no ties to SIU. Everyone on this board was throwing a fit when Brian Idalski was hired over Steve Johnson. Idalski's done ok I'd say. Point is, it doesn't really matter where prospective coach cut his teeth. It is going to be pretty hard to know if the right hire was made until a few seasons go by regardless.
  15. Well, Dale Lennon did not work for UND when he was named Head Coach, he was at the University of Mary. Roger Thomas did not work for UND when he was named Head Coach, he was in the CFL. Pat Behrns and Gene Murphy were both assistants here before getting the head job.
  16. I followed the team to St. Cloud a few years back. Thought it was strange the way they only have seating on one side of the stadium there. I never would have guessed that you could fit all the fans at a North Dakota football game on one side of the stands. You could have against UNC......................
  17. I think most of the regulars on this site would agree that I have a history of being a Mussman apologist.........................up until this season. The guy was promoted to the head job by interim A.D.'s, after getting the support of Dale Lennon to take over. He has had to deal with the transition to DI, the nickname issue, and an extended period with no conference affilitation. Basically, the the deck was stacked against him from the get-go. However, with the resources that the University provides, this program should not be struggling like it is at this point. I was not as optimistic about this season as most of the members of this site were coming in. I said, prior to the season, that if North Dakota went 7-4 (best case scenario) and made the playoffs that Mussman would be deserving of Big Sky Coach of the Year honors, given what was returning on the team. Well, honestly I never expected 7 wins this season, but I CERTAINLY didn't expect only 3. And getting a 4th win will be a tall task. And I admit, I would still probably be advocating for the current staff in a 3 or 4 win season this year, if we had at least been competetive against the top Big Sky teams. Fact is, we are not even close to being able to beat the best of the Big Sky. If one considers Montana St., Eastern Washington, Montana, and Northern Arizona the cream of the crop in the conference, then I feel the need to point out that North Dakota is 1-7 against those schools since joining the league, and have we've been outscored 390 to 185 in those games. Honestly, I'm confident that our 36 scholarship teams from 1999-2007 would have fared as good or better in the Big Sky than has our recent teams.................... It is time for a change, it is time to shake things up. I have all the confidence in the world in Brian Faison as Athletic Director. He's done a helluva job in his time here with transition issues, nickname issues, coaching issues, and conference affiliation issues. I will also support the team no matter what. I don't have pre-determined stipulations when my ticket renewals come every spring. I love the University of North Dakota, and I love college sports.
  18. Kotelnicki has been on the sidelines since the Portland St. game. Don't know about Schleusner............
  19. I believe the average was over 10,000 in 2008........
  20. I'm flying out from GFK on Friday to watch this monstrosity take on the Aggies of UC Davis in the season finale. I intend to be at every home game in 2014 regardless of who the coach is.
  21. Entertaining game. Nice to get a win. Won the first home game and last home game. Now if we could just delete the five games in between. Lots of guys got banged up today. Wallace and Welch on crutches after the game.
  22. Boy it is miserable out here. Hate to think how bad attendance would be if played outdoors. I am going with the Sioux by 10.
  23. Impressive win for the Bears......
  24. I think Bartels has looked better in his playing time. I'd go with him the rest of the way.
  25. Can't we all just agree that football sucks right now and nobody really wants to have to watch it?
