  1. This is true. Just off the top of my head, Bill Belichick, John Harbaugh, Gary Kubiack, and Gus Bradley are all examples of NFL head coaches that spent no time as head coaches in the college ranks. Who knows if Tim Tibesar will wind up on the same path, but in my eyes, that is the trajectory he seems to be navigating. IMO, LB coach in the NFL can be a springboard to much more than a less than elite DI head coaching position in the NCAA.........................
  2. I find it interesting that as a Bears fan you have apparently never been to Greeley......................
  3. Honestly, I see 5 wins on the schedule next season: Robert Morris, Missouri St., Portland St., Weber St., and Northern Colorado. I would expect wins in those games regardless of the coaching change. In the big picture, I hope to see more disciplined play. Fewer penalties, better tackling, a somewhat competent offensive line.
  4. What are people's thoughts realistically if any of the assistant coaches will be retained? I would really like to see Kotelnicki stay on in some role. I just like the way he coaches. Special Teams were obviously very good when he was in charge of that area. The only other guy I feel really kind of strong about staying is Danny Freund. I think he was a great QB, a very cerebral one, and could do good things as a QB coach. He is a coach's kid, and being from Wisconsin could potentially already have and build important pipelines to recruiting in that state which has always been important to this program.
  5. I'm gonna throw another off-the-radar name out there: SDSU Defensive Coordinator Clint Brown Played at Nebraska, spent time as an assistant and Special Teams Coordinator at New Mexico St. when Faison was there.
  6. Let's forget a minute about who we WANT to apply for the job and who we WANT to get the job. Who does everyone think WILL apply for certain? I think Caruso and Bubba will certainly put in an application.
  7. But the choice isn't between North Dakota and Colorado. It's between North Dakota and Greeley. Nuff said..............
  8. Fox College Sports
  9. Claeys: No way Tibesar: Unlikely IMO Bollinger: Possibly I'm very luke-warm to the idea of Bollinger
  10. I flew into GFK last night from Denver.................... Was I supposed to meet with Faison?
  11. Only 12 turnovers against defensive minded Bucky. That is pretty good.
  12. Maybe it isn't, I don't know. I'm just not sure it would work financially. Tibesar has held some very high profile positions in the Big 12 and Big 10, and is now in the NFL. He seems to be on an upward path at the moment that I think may not include a stop in the FCS ranks................
  13. If it is true that Klieman has interest in the job, and North Dakota has interest in him, how would that work, logistically, for the rest of this FCS season? Same question for any potential candidate that still has part of a season to coach. In the case of Klieman, or any other current coach that may be playoff bound, the rest of his season could likely go into January. If someone like Klieman were hired on December 10, would he be done at his current job, leaving them without one of their top assistants for the playoff run? Would he keep his job, and not take over until his current team is done with the playoffs?
  14. I find it interesting that paid attendance in 2011 was less than it was this year. 2011 was Mussman's best year going 8-3 and winning the Great West. Of course the year prior in 2010, we were 3-8, and I think we can all agree that the 8-3 year in 2011 was somewhat surprising. Expectations were artificially high coming into this season, and therefore there was by all accounts a significant bump in season ticket sales which boosted the paid numbers. Obviously, actual attendance waned as the season unfolded. Don't know how many of those new tickets got used the latter part of the home schedule. Will a new coaching hire do enough to reinvigorate the fan base going into next year to rebuild attendance right away? Or will we continue to see crowds of 5,000-7,000 until the on-field results show a significant improvement?
  15. Honestly, it's probably for the best that seats are limited, and it will be a decidedly pro-North Dakota crowd. I don't expect that the game will be very entertaining from NDSU's perspective.
  16. Outside of Tibesar, which I think is unrealistic, Klieman is my favorite potential candidate amongst all the names that have been thrown out there. He has many years of experience as a DC at two different schools that have always been known for solid defensive play. He has head coaching experience. He has experience as an assistant at several FCS schools, and an FBS school. He has spent the majority of his coaching career in North Dakota's traditional recruiting territory. He has spent the majority of his coaching career at winning programs such as Northern Iowa and NDSU. It will definately be excruciating as a fan over the next several weeks with all of the speculation, at least until we get list of finalists.
  17. Have no idea how credible this is, but a UNI fan over at ChampionshipSubdivision.com is saying that Chris Klieman is interviewing for the job as soon as is convenient. Apparently his wife is from Grand Forks, and has family there.............................
  18. Not advocating for Berg of course, but the NFL and DI experience criteria are "Preferred Qualifications". The minimum requirement is Head Coaching or Coordinator experience at a DII or DIII school. That makes the potential pool of candidates much broader than what we are all focusing in on....................
  19. I'll really think we'll probably run them out of our gym. I don't expect it to be a real close game.............
  20. I liked what I saw from the team. Not much defense played though. I understand it is hard to guard a 7 footer that is knocking down threes, but he and others were left wide open on the perimeter far too often. This was a winnable game, that got away in the 2nd half. It did show me that there are bright things to come this season as far as I can tell. We will be a tough match up for most of the teams at our level.
  21. Nate Baukol is in charge of the football program right now. I'm not sure how much recruiting he is doing. I suppose if any offerees contact the football offices, his job is to relay the message to them that things are in flux right now...........
  22. Faison didn't hire Mussman. Just saying......
  23. I only saw a few minutes of the game tonight, but looking over the box score I'm pretty pleased. North Dakota demolished an inferior opponent like they should have. Only 6 turnovers. Shot well from 3 point range. Looks like the two guys I was most curious about had good nights, Nash and Hooker. Concerned about post play. If Brekke truly is done, then Traylor needs to have a big year offensively, because it appears that Salmonson and Calcaterra may be no more than depth guys...................
  24. I'm gonna pick North Dakota by 4.
  25. I think he was talking about the live chat at the Herald...............
