  1. Let's get a win today men..........
  2. 49 North Dakota 48 Idaho St.
  3. Agree. I think Tibesar is a wet dream, but regardless of who gets hired, as UND92,96 has said, at some point attendance and fan interest has to play a role financially. Attendance for SDSU was 10,000. Using rough numbers, at $20/ticket that's $200,000 gross revenue. We saw an 11% drop in attendance from SDSU to Montana St. That's a $22,000 hit to the athletic department. What will it be for EWU? 7,000 in the seats? That's a $60,000 drop from the season high. There is no reason that UND can't put 10,000 people in the Alerus every Saturday. They did it in 2001, 2002, 2008, etc................ An extra $15,000-20,000 gross revenue on gameday as a result of better attendance would go a long ways to paying a coaching salary..............
  4. Given with how badly North Dakota was embarrassed in the last two home games, and the fact that there is presumably one more severely lop-sided home butt-kicking scheduled against EWU, I think the only way Coach Mussman is retained is if they finish 7-4. That would obviously mean winning every game except EWU. Personally, when I look at the schedule, I only see 3 more possible wins at this point: Idaho St., Northern Colorado, and UC Davis. And I'm thinking all those will be nailbiters. I've been researching Brian Faison's hires and fires since he has been here. Here is a summary: Ashley Hardee---Volleyball Preceded by Kari Peterson, an interim coach. She had an outstanding season against poor competition in 2008. She resigned for personal reasons and did not pursue the full time job. Hardee had no ties to North Dakota, but was an assistant at DI New Mexico St. for 8 years while Faison was there He has been a home-run hire Steve Parsons---SwimmingParsons took over UND's most successful non revenue sport in 2009, and struggled mightily for 4 years with CUSA and MPSF affiliations He was a UND assistant in the mid-2000's when North Dakota was DII power in swimming He was an assistant at DI East Carolina for several years before taking over the UND program he was hired by Faison, and he was Fired by Faison Kristen Gay---SoccerPreceded by Brock Thompson, who basically guided the only succesful period of North Dakota soccer She was an assistant on Thompson's staff, and was promoted to the head job upon his departure She was Faison's second hire at UND She was hired by Faison, and fired by Faison Kevin Galbraith---Track & FieldHis predecessor is now his associate Head Coach. He was basically hired in an effort to improve Track and Field at UND He was previously head coach at Northern Colorado. He has several years of DI and Big Sky coaching experience Hired in 2011, he is the current head coach No previous ties to UND Jeff Dodson---BaseballHis predecessor was an interim appointed by interim Co-Athletic Directors Spent several years as an assistant at DI Southeast Missouri St. prior to coming to UND Faison's first coaching hire No ties to UND Current Head Coach Eric Oakley---Softball [*]His predecessor, Sami Strinz (hired by Tom Bunning), "resigned" after the 2010 season following 3 dismal years [*]He spent the previous 5 years at DI Eastern Michigan as their top assistant, including interim head coach in 2010 [*]No ties to UND [*]Current Head Coach Matt Kellog---Soccer [*]He is the second coach that Faison has hired for the soccer program [*]Predecessor fired by Faison [*]Served as an assistant coach at DI universities Morehead St., Kentucky, and Western Michigan [*]Spent the previous three seasons as head coach at DII Ferris St. [*]Current Head Coach Chris Maiello---Swimming [*]His predecessor was hired by Faison, and fired by Faison [*]Spent previous 5 years as an assistant at Navy [*]Has head coaching experience at two small colleges [*]Current Head Coach Travis Brewster---Women's Basketball [*]His predecessor was North Dakota coaching legend, Gene Roebuck. By most accounts, Roebuck hand-picked Brewster to succeed him [*]Spent many years as an assistant for North Dakota, and also at DI Wisconsin-Green Bay and South Dakota St. [*]Current Head Coach Now, what is the point of all this useless information? Just trying to get an idea of how Faison is looking at the coaching sitution for football right now. Alot of people have thrown Faison under the bus along with Mussman because of the contract extension he gave him. Well, he gave him the extension after the 2011 season when UND went 8-3, and they won the Great West (admittedly no huge feat). But have to remember that the year before that, UND was 3-8. A 5 game improvement in a year's time looked pretty good to most of us I assume. Also have to remember that the contract terms of a head coach are an important part of the recruiting process. The other point of my research was because I'm wondering what Faison tolerates. One of the first hires he made here was the soccer coach. Soccer has sucked, and he made a change. Swimming is an even better example to what is going on in football right now. I don't know how many people are aware of this, but in Swimming, UND was just as dominant as they were in football at the DII level in the 90's and 2000's. Swimming hasn't cut it since the DI move, and Faison fired is own guy. That tells me he is willing to make a change. If (it should) that happens this year in football, from what I see from his hiring history, we probably won't see a UND "good ole boy" get hired. It will be someone with DI experience, or someone who has had a successful run as a head coach in DII...............
  5. I removed Tjamz post. Not sure how it pertained to the topic of the thread.
  6. I am going throw out an the off the wall candidate. Not sure how well he would be received and comes with some baggage. Mike Kramer at Idaho St. He turned around Eastern Washington and he turned around Montana St. He left MSU under fire because he had some questionable players (criminals). He is currently stuck at at a dead end job at ISU, a place that receives zero community or institutional support. I only mention him because he has the reputation of a program builder, he has been a head coach for years, he has been around the Big Sky his entire life, and I bet he'd entertain coming here if he were approached about it. As bad as things are here right now, I have to believe it is more attractive place to coach football than in Pocatello. Again, i have no idea if this would be a good fit at all, butjust the name was worth throwing out there.
  7. Indoor Practice Facility. New turf at Memorial Stadium. New turf at the Alerus. More football games on TV sine he has been here than ever before. I think Faison does a good job. He hasnt been afraid to remove under-performong coaches in the past (volleyball, softball, womens hockey, swimming, soccer).
  8. I really didn't notice their uniforms....................gold/tan with green helmets? I actually noticed PSU's helmets were pretty busy and wondered if they are a secondary benificiary of Oregon.
  9. I'm not sure it is a viable option. The NCAA has turned the other cheek to sponsoring major college football for good reason, IMO. They can do this I believe because they have a stranglehold on every other college sport. Since the dawn of time, the NCAA has not regulated (sponsored a championship) for major college football. They have for every other sport. If the BCS schools break away, they would still have to come with a solution to maintain and fund 90% of their athletic department from which they'd receive no assitance from the NCAA. IMO, what the NCAA does, is provide infrastructure for member institutions to operate within. Title IX is a huge aspect to this as well. Many sports sponsored by schools are done to comply with Title IX. If football and men's basketball are your major sports, how would depleting the opponent pool for all sports by 80% work to comply with this federal law? It just wouldn't. My guess is that the current BCS schools will continue to tweek and modify things as they see fit. TV networks desire to cover them will dictate that. The NCAA won't care too much, because honestly they don't have a dog in the fight as far as football goes.
  10. I think Poly looks pretty good especially. Why does every Big Sky team I watch look bigger and more athletic than my favorite team?
  11. Poly wins 38-34. Both teams look better than my favorite squad.........
  12. 38-35 CP with 1:51 to go. Mustangs just missed extra point.....
  13. Mine too. See we can get along in harmony............
  14. Cal Poly,s offense is just methodical. Mustangs up by 10 in the latter part of the 4th quarter......
  15. Poly's qb can run the ball but he isn't likely to throw for much against anyone. CP defense looks good. This is like old time football.. Two teams that want to run it down your throat......
  16. One of the best things about the Big Sky Conference is late night football.....................
  17. Good game in Portland. Tied at 21 late in the 3rd quarter........
  18. I really find it hard to believe that the BCS conferences are just going to break away from the NCAA and start their own association. They basically have their "own" association when it comes to football. One could argue that it would make sense for them to do the same with Men's Basketball. But what about the rest of their sports? Most members of the "Power Conferences" sponsor upwards of 20 to 25 sports. They need opponents and championships to play for. That is what NCAA affiliation provides. Every power conference has its bottom feeders. I doubt schools like Minnesota and Illinois are going to be on board with cutting the pool of potential opponents for their non-revenue sports from over 300 to 60 or so. The NCAA allows the big schools to have free reign over their football. I think in the future they'll get even more free reign and that will satisfy them...............
  19. Don't they mostly still say Sioux, North Dakota, or Nodak? I'm just saying who cares what "type" of jersey gets worn by UND supporters to a Sioux football game, or even, god forbid, in downtown Fargo when ESPN is there for a once in a lifetime event that promotes football? I'm quite confident in saying that the highest selling sports jersey in the country that has the words "North Dakota" on it is a North Dakota Hockey Jersey. Students especially need (or should be) careful what they spend their money on, and I'd bet that most of them pick a hockey jersey to drop $150 on over a football jersey. Hell, I'm 35 years old and make a fairly comfortable living. Hockey is my third favorite UND sport and the only North Dakota jerseys I own are two hockey sweaters.
  20. I don't get that argument. Should a person also not wear a Sioux baseball cap to a football game? Helmet instead or what? Would a Sioux basketball jersey be as offensive at a football game as a hockey sweater would? How about wearing white after labor day? Sheesh. What's the big deal? I don't care what people wear. Duck Dynasty, John Deere, Calvin Klein.........................just cheer for UND.................
  21. Games on ROOT aren't on BigskyTV as far as I know..............
  22. I thought UTEP would have gone to the MWC last year. MWC needs access to Texas recruiting grounds. They would help fill the void left by TCU. I'm a bit of a BYU fan, and they just need to suck it up and get back into a conference. Returning to the MWC, along with UTEP would give them 14. On the other hand though, regarding BYU, if ESPN/ESPN2/ESPNU, is willing to put 6 or 7 Cougar football games on TV every year, and they can be in the WCC with Gonzaga, maybe going independent was a smart move.
  23. Well, I would take a win, regardless of how that would impact Coach Mussman's future employment. I may have soured on the current coaching staff, but I'm not ready to pull for the opponent every week in order to force a change................
  24. Check that, they've played 4 games. But still, that is down right scary.....................
  25. What about Schuler and Brekke? Of course, Brekke was not difficult to recruit for North Dakota. I think Schuler is very underated. He was really the first notable high school recruit for Jones. It just turned out that the next season they brought in 3 guys that play the same position that are all capable of being all-conference players. That is just not going to happen every year at this level of basketball. What I do like about Jones is how he fills the gaps with quality JUCO players. Emmanual Little, Earvin Youmens, Travis Mertens, Alonso Traylor, Jaron Nash (hopefully). No program should be built on JUCO players IMO, but Jones has found some nice ones that can contribute in his time here..........
