  1. You may be right about it being pointless insofar as the NCAA. The point that I was trying to make was about public perception. NDSU is attempting to garner national attention for their football. My point is that no one cares who plays DI-AA. They care about DI-A. Like I said it is a silly argument.
  2. The truth is that when you read a publication such as the World Almanac they don't list the winner of DI-AA championship game as the national champion for football. The team that they list is a DI-A team, such as Florida, USC, LSU .... There is no mention of the DI-AA championship game or a list of past DI-AA champions. There is a list of past college hockey champions and North Dakota is in there seven times. I reference the World Almanac because I happen to have one in my house and it comes in handy for silly arguments like this. I live in the south and you could ask most folks to list 5 DI-AA teams and they couldn't do it. When you talk about college football down here it is all about DI-A football. Before you ask the question about how many know anything about college hockey, I will say very few. That being said, hockey as a whole is gaining popularity in the south, mostly due to the ECHL.
  3. I'm not trying to defend Glas, but his overall winning percentage is comparable to Gunther's. Glas 64% Gunther 65% The real difference is the conference winning percentage, which is what most of us seem to focus on, since it has been 10 years since UND won the NCC. NCC percentages: Glas 56.5% Gunther 65%
  4. I just read recently that Glas is 10 wins behind Gunther. I think that it would mean alot to him to go out as the all time winningest coach at UND. That being said he may step down on his own after this year with that title.
  5. Is there any new progress on the new hotel(s) coming to GF? I heard that the bids had been let for the Canad Inn project. Have they started construction? I also remember hearing about the possibility of another hotel going up near REA. Did that ever materialize?

I don't think that USD would have enough of a fan base for hockey. South Dakota is not as into hockey as ND and Minn. Omaha does well, because it is a larger metro. I know that Vermillion isn't that far from Sioux Falls, but doesn't SF already have minor league hockey. That being said I think you are right with the money issues at USD it may be a while if they start hockey, if ever.

Actually they are only IAA in football and everything else is Division I, but I do agree with your overall statement.
  8. I agree that going Division I without a conference plan would not be financially wise, nor would it be beneficial for the student athlete to have no conference championships to play for. I have read on other boards about the geography really hurting the upper midwest insofar as conference affiliation. I think that UND is prudent in continuning to update facilities for a long term goal of Division I when the timing is right.
  9. It was a wonderful ride and was great to be able to see the team on TV. Don't get to see them very often. Congratulations to the guys on a great season.
  10. Forgive me if this has already been posted elsewhere, but I didn't see it anywhere else. Article on the similarities between the Sioux this year and Denver last year. http://sports.espn.go.com/ncaa/news/story?id=2032895 I don't post often, so I have no clue what I'm doing.
  11. Having left GF 12 years ago there are times that I do miss the place. Since I married someone from Louisiana, the chances of me ever living there are slim. She's been to ND in March once and April once and she thought it was cold then. Mostly what I miss is UND sports. I rarely missed a FB, BB or hockey game. Heading up next week for the BB 100 years banquet and catch a few games. My dad played in the 50's. I can't wait to see an actual event at REA. I've been on tours of the place, but never seen a game there.
  12. I know this is probably off the wall and may have been covered long ago, but I just wonder why UMD joined the NCC, knowing that UND could possibly leave. I've been reading here and other places that there is a possiblity of the NCC and No. Sun merging. It just doesn't make much sense. My out way out there thought is of a new conference being formed with UND and some hockey buddies. St. Cloud, Minn. State and Duluth cannot be kept as Division II forever. Some other possible schools to join the conference could be Michigan Tech, Northern Michigan and of course UNO. I have no idea where most of these schools are in the DI vs. DII thought process and like I said it way out there.
  13. 19 minus 13 is 6, which is more than the 5% margin of error. Maybe it should go the other way and it is a difference of 11. I also notice that the most hated opponent is U of Minnesota. Definitely hockey.
  14. You missed the part about "Favorite College Team" North Dakota Hockey 19% NDSU Football 13%
  15. Actually according to SI it is. http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/magazine/...s/north_dakota/
  16. I was in Hattiesburg, MS recently and saw signs at the stadium saying that USM was the "Small College National Champion" in 1958.
  17. I have been on this board as a guest for about the past year and am not really sure how to do posting, but thought that I would give this a try. I live in Pensacola about a mile from the Gulf Power plant, which received huge damage. Although my house did not sustain any damage, most people that I know did. One of the guys that I work that lives in Pace lost his roof another that lives in the Garcon Point area lost his house to the storm surge. The daily effort to locate gasoline and get around town isn't fun. My parents live in GF and I know what they went through with the flood. When I talked to them over the weekend they said that the conditions were similar, but with all of the damage to the infrastructure I would say that hurricanes are far worse. I evacauted Pensacola last Tuesday and headed up to LaGrange GA. It took about 7.5 hours for a trip that usually takes 4 hours. Most people that I know that "rode out the storm" said that they would never do it again. Since we do not have any electricity, my wife and two girls are staying in Louisiana for the time being. Can't wait for life to get back to somewhat of a norm.
