Minot did dominate the first half, and won easily although I thought they came out a little flat in the second half. A lot of people talk about the athletes of South, but Minot has a running back by the name of Schatz that is a pretty good football player. When the kid got in open space he was gone.... It also helped that Minot got Hendrickson back. That kid is just an animal on the football field. If by chance Minot makes the title game, I think it would be a whole lot closer game with South than 40-0. Maybe a 21-10 loss or something like that....

I would love to see this Fargo South team play the West Fargo team from a couple of years ago that had Roehl (believe he plays for the Bison now), that absolutely destroyed Minot in the championship and every other team they played that season. Redwing, I don't see a team getting within ten points of South.....
-
Actually that game was at Fargo South, but it still probably wouldn't have mattered. A team with the speed of south on the turf at the Alerus though...... Just give Fargo South the state championship. Minot has a good team though....

Could someone update me as to what happened? I guess I missed the part about him getting hurt....

Jeez you're right. They should just completely shut down every single hockey program in the western part of North Dakota. Just end the high school season with the east region tournament. This way the eastern teams wouldn't have to waste their precious time during the regular season or the state tournament playing horrible western teams....

Very well said UNDhockey22. Grand Forks will always be hockeytown ND, and veryone will always talk about the great Grand Forks teams, but its nice to see some other schools win state titles once in a while. Parity is a good thing. I played with Krebsbach, heck of a hockey player. Would of made Minot a lot better....

Williston hockey has improved leaps and bounds since the early 90's. Back when I started playing traveling hockey we would romp Williston constantly, and most of the games ended up with running time. As I got older they started getting better and better, and the games got a whole lot closer. Nowadays when Williston beats Minot or Bismarck it really isn't considered an upset. Yeah they have a little ways to go to catch up to the Fargo South's/Red River's/Central/etc. of the world, but it seems like their high school team gets better every season. Dickinson is like Williston in the fact that they are also much improved, but I personally don't believe that hockey has caught on in Dickinson quite yet. A couple years ago they made the state high school tournament which is huge for a young program, but they've kind of taken their lumps the past couple of years. I still believe they belong in high school hockey (although others here will tell you differently) and hopefully in the near future the game will catch on in Dickyville. Like I've always believed, the growth of hockey in a small state like North Dakota is HUGE!

And of course Minot is not a hockey dynasty, as you mentioned last year. Do you have any other blatantly obvious statements you would like to make? Dave Hakstol is a great hockey coach! Thats mine...
-
I used to be in the boat of rotating the tournament, but facts are facts. The tournament should stay in the best facility the state has to offer, which is obviously REA. The one thing I think should change is requiring all teams to stay in hotels. But that will never happen either....
-
Never said Minot or the west was terrible... "there could have easily been no teams from the west in the state tournament this year" "wow 3 players in the ushl, you would think they would have gotten out of the first round of state!!!!!!!!!!!! HAHA What a JOKE!!!!!!!!!!!" "Do you really want teams like south or red river playing bottaneu or dickinson, that would get ugly fast?" What exactly were you trying to imply?
-
Plenty of home games against the top east teams? The only east team that came to Minot this year was Central. The year before that they beat Central, Grafton, EGF, and tied the eventual state champion Red River at home. So what good do you think you're doing by constantly berating western hockey? With your posts I'm under the belief that you think western towns should just drop their hockey programs and have the eastern teams play the same 8 teams all year long. I guess you're right...the growth of the game is a bad thing....

Captain-Fabian Assistant-Porter Assistant-Spirko *Stafford will wear a letter if he stays.

The Badgers are the champions, and for that matter the best team, but I thought this young UND hockey team played like Champions at the end of the year.

I've also wondered about Lamoureax possibly transfering. I know his dad was a backup goaltender here, so maybe he'll be a good teammate and stay, but can anyone really blame Phil if he pulled a Ziegelmann and decided to transfer elsewhere...
-
The sad part is that the Wooger called Lamoureax Lamoriello the entire gopher series this year at Mariucci.

I for one would be upset to see Henry leave. But then again I know he's got a son who is in squirts or pee wees (help me out here Devils Lake residents), and he probably wouldn't get to see his son play a whole lot if he was still coaching the high school team.

Apple Valley's David Fischer was named Mr. Hockey

Minot beat Central.....thank God. Minot is finally able to beat Central in a sport at a state tournament after having their football and hockey seasons ended by them. Tomorrow's matchups in the A Boys Minot vs. Williston Bismarck vs. North From the sounds of it the Bismarck-South game was a great one.

My old man ordered and recieved the tickets a while back and sent them to me. I look at them almost every day....

Congrats to Fargo South on the victory. A well deserved win in a game that could have gone either way. Deichert and Rosendahl both made some tremendous saves in goal which made the game that much more exciting to watch. I bet if these teams played ten times the outcome would be 5-5. Its sad to see players like Mihulka, Weisgarber and Galt graduate, but I'm sure we'll see them somewhere down the road. Congrats as well to Al Henry of Devils Lake. I've talked a lot about the guy the past few weeks, and he is very deserving of the coach of the year honor. I'm anxious to see what he'll be able to do with Devils Lake in the east region next season.

Yeah, it has everything to do with Minot losing their first round game. And boy, attending college in Grand Forks sure makes me hate Red River. Take off your red colored glasses and grow up. If you weren't as biased as Lou Nanne maybe I would take what you have to say seriously... PS: One quick question though. Never mind, I won't get a decent response...
-
I didn't think they were bad at all. I just have a problem with them throwing stuff on the ice after the game (again). The players for both teams played a super game, and afterwards they get signs and pop bottles thrown at them. It wasn't as bad as a couple of years ago, but one of these times someone is going to get hurt.
-
I really didn't care who won either game, but Red River's OT winner wasn't a goal. Argue with me all you want, but the guy was in the crease on top of the goaltender, and it didn't seem like the Grafton guy hit the RR guy that hard at all. Ohh well, Red River is the better team, and probably still would have won the game. Still though, what a game!!
-
No, its okay. Minot's coach had a great quote in the Bismarck tribune today. "For the West Region teams most of (the problem) has been between the ears. West teams strive so much to win that first game that it becomes a hindrance." He is absolutely right (IMHO). Minot plays like a completely different team on the first day of the state tournament. And I think the mental aspect does play a big part.

I haven't talked to him since the summer, but he said he would like to play a couple years of junior hockey, and possibly sign/verbal with a school in the near future. That was this summer, but like I said I haven't talked to him since. I talked to his dad a couple of weeks ago, and it sounded like he was enjoying the junior hockey experience.
