I guess there are some positives to take out of this football game, I thought about it and came up with: A) Either NDSU or the Gophers will lose this weekend...+ B) The Minnesota Football Program is at this point no better than a I-AA school....+ C) Gopher fans will get confused because half of them don't know the difference between UND and NDSU.....+ D) NDSU's best sport is even keel with Minnesota's worst sport....+ I'll stick to my pick. NDSU 27, Minnesota 24. USC isn't as good as people think they are. New Mexico is 1-2, Miami is okay, should have beaten the gophers, but still 0-2. I personally don't think it will be that close. NDSU has had a full two weeks to prepare for the gophers....heck, probably three weeks because St. Francis just served as a filler.

I'm glad that this thread was originally started four years ago...... I'm all for the success of the state of North Dakota, but I can't cheer for NDSU.....I was at the game in 2006 when NDSU beat the gophers all over the field, but still managed to lose the game on the blocked field goal at the end of the game. I was there with a couple of NDSU pals and was treated horribly by NDSU fans the entire game (hallways, bathrooms, etc.). My NDSU pals even got in the face of other NDSU fans trying to tell them that I was cheering for the Bison. I guess I should add that the only thing I was wearing was a green hat with the interlocking ND. The day was perfectly capped off that night at Joe Sensors when a group of drunken NDSU fans started a DII Faggots chant when a number of Sioux fans were there watching the Sioux-Maine hockey game..... I just won't watch the game. I can't cheer for either team. I will give a prediction though. NDSU 27 Minnesota 24 Because NDSU should beat Minnesota.

Yep....issues in the secondary....no way.

No way....problems in the secondary....where is Bubba Schweigert when you need him? I have never seen a Sioux defense look so confused in the secondary. I mean letting guys run wide open, or getting the coverages messed up. Fresno could get to 70 if the coaches don't get it figured out.

Wish I could make it, but I have family commitments to attend to. Hopefully the Alerus is full regardless of the team that they are playing. My first Potato bowl occurred at the old memorial stadium, when the Sioux took on Crookston of all teams. Even though everyone knew the Sioux would put up half a hundred on Crookston that day, the stadium was full and it was a great atmosphere the entire game. When the Sioux are in the Big Sky I'd love to see them schedule the potato bowl game for Montana or Montana State. It'd be nice to set it up for alternating years, Montana one year, Montana State the next etc.

UND will not win this football game, however it would just be nice to see them get better in certain (hopefully all) facets of the game. ~Shore up the penalties... ~Shore up the secondary... ~Try some different things on offense in the passing game and play action. ~GIVE THE BALL TO GARMAN.....I can't believe they pulled his red shirt....they use him so little..... I think this is a big game for the coaches too. Lets look like a DI coaching staff and make the adjustments as they come during the game. I'll say Fresno 42....UND 14.

The gophers are a terrible DI-A team. I really don't care who wins that game. If NDSU is as good as advertised (and my NDSU grad brother tells me they are), they should beat a team in a stadium that will be half filled with their fans. Give Jerry Kill (I really hope he is okay, and all the prayers in the world to him) 3 years to turn that mess around because Brewster absolutely drove that thing into the ground.

Nothing wrong with a little national exposure. I'd rather have the Sioux travel to Fresno State and get killed then play a NAIA school at home. This is the world of DI-AA football or FCS, whatever you want to call it. Teams like Fresno, Idaho, Texas Tech, etc. need games to fill their home schedules. They pay you to come out, and expect to beat you. Unless you are the U of M, whose football program is so down at the moment you can't beat South Dakota. NDSU will beat them in a couple of weeks when they play, and they'll get paid to do it.

You could try and argue the severity of UND going into Fresno next week Darrell, but it won't do you any good. Fresno State lead #10 Nebraska in Lincoln going into the second half before Nebraska put the game away with a big fourth quarter. The score was 21-20 entering the fourth. I'm sure with all the BCS implications and national exposure that Nebraska just played their second team offense and defense against the Bulldogs. At least thats what we'll hear when UND goes out to Fresno California next week.

I'm not dense enough to not call your team the Bison, or start some stupid argument about how the Bison should be forced by PETA to change their name. You care nothing about the rights of others, etc. with the nickname argument. You are infatuated with hating UND. It didn't matter if the University of North Dakota was the Packers, etc. You would have an issue with it.

Wait a second....you had to spell SIOUX right to get into this forum.....it all makes sense now..... This doesn't upset me, like I said, its amazing how infatuated some NDSU fans are with UND. Some guys get ticked off about it, but the fact that we see so many NDSU posters on SIOUXSPORTS.com is a good thing to me. Even if they come over and talk about our football team's lack of success. They took the time out of there day to care enough about Fighting Sioux Sports.

I agree with fire Mussman......Anyone think that Dale Lennon would be willing to come back after this season when the team is playoff eligible? What ticked me off the most was the Idaho coaches making a mockery of our defensive coaches.....They'd call time out, draw something up, and a guy would be running wide open to the corner of the end zone. That was unacceptable.....they can't score TD's on basically the same play three times....

You hear that so much from NDSU fans it gets to the point where it doesn't even make me blink anymore. So much inaccurate information is spread about Ralph Engelstad it makes me sick. Well....it almost makes me laugh.....No...Ralph didn't build the rink with blood money.....No...Ralph didn't fight in WW.I.I. for the Nazis......No...Ralph wasn't a close personal friend of one Adolf Hitler....unless Hitler made a point of buddying up with young Minnesota hockey players..... I'm not an apologist for some of the decisions he made, because some of them were definitely unacceptable, but at the same time the man did do some good in his life, and a lot of youth athletes are benefited from him sharing his personally grown fortune.

I dunno....I kind of liked it when it was stolen by certain students from both sides every year. A couple of guys from my dad's old frat stole it from NDSU the last time the Bison beat the Sioux in football. It was fun to take some pictures with the nickel, but at the same time it was great to know that NDSU had won the trophy and some UND students had taken it back. Probably goes the same way for the NDSU fans out there. The fact that the Nickel is on total lockdown.....meh.....just keeps making the memory of Sioux-Bison football go away.......

It is interesting that at every Bison game you hear "Sioux suck" with their cheers, and you see people sell the t-shirts like this family in the story. I can't remember that last time that I was at a Sioux football game and heard anything about the Bison....heck, they didn't even announce the scores of Bison games at the games I was at after NDSU made the jump. This could mean A) NDSU really is more pissed off at UND in this rivalry than UND is at NDSU....B) Hockey has become the only sport of relevance at UND during this transition (This might be my pick, but with the volleyball crowd the other night, maybe not)....C) UND doesn't really see NDSU as a football rival anymore if the schools can't agree to get the game up and going again. I finished a work training program a while back that was taught by an NDSU grad. The entire time when it wasn't about the training it was....shot at UND football.....shot at UND football.....shot at UND football......between shots at football it was all about how the rink was built by a Jew hating Nazi's blood money. At the end of the session when all was said and done he remarked how surprised he was that I didn't say anything back. I told him how, "How can I be upset?" You are more infatuated with UND than I am.....

This years team reminds me of the last Sioux team to play in the national championship, in the 2004-2005 season. Not entirely age wise, but you get my point. ~A good defensive core, with some solid defensemen. -That team had Greene, Fuher, Schneider, Smaby, Jones -This years team will have a fantastic defensive core. ~Good goaltending -Parise and Lamoureax were a good combo -I believe Dell and Eidsness are a good combo ~Young goal scorers -That team had Travis Zajac, Drew Stafford, Rusty Spirko (I know his name), etc. -This team has Rocco Grimaldi, Parks, MacMillan, a number of young guys that can score. ~Role guys. -That team had a bunch of seniors who were role guys.....Fylling, Canady, Massen, Jake Brandt (Was a huge team guy!) -This years team has important role guys as well....Rowney, Lamoureax, (May be the most important role guy this year), Rodwell, probably St. Clair. That team had a magical run the year after the team won the league, and got shut out in the NCAA's by an extremely hot goaltender. Not a lot was expected of them, but they turned some heads....The early season will provide struggles, but I think this years squad is very capable of a playoff run.

Congrats to Pat. We're biased here, but he truly was one of the best writers on USCHO. Gave extremely fair game analysis, and always seemed to get the right quotes from the right guys in his articles.

This is the type of stuff where the rivalry goes too far. I.E. the Alabama fan who poisoned the trees at Auburn. Consider the source though......

Well....if hockey is your thing....send up the NDSU team to play the Sioux you big hockey fan you. I guess I'm not going to put a picture of Jensen fumbling at the one yard line, or the NDSU fan on youtube punching another fan for my avatar.....Because it really has nothing to do with the school that I cheer for, and is only an attention grabbing mechanism. I wish I had time in my day to visit another universities fan forum, and try to piss people off......guess I've got better things to do in this lifetime... You could take a page from WYOMINGBISON and actually add something to the conversation, but that'd require you to take off the green and yellow shades....

I think if UND beats Idaho it would be a game similar to that of when USF beat Notre Dame Saturday. Hope like hell that Idaho turns the ball over, don't turn the ball over at all, and score on your possessions on the plus side of the fifty. It'd be nice to see the Sioux open up the playbook a bit as well. Idaho knows they'll get a lot of Sutton.....wouldn't mind seeing a play action to Sutton to start the game and have Bradely throw the ball as far as he can down the sideline to Hardin. That may make them think twice about committing 7 or 8 to the box for run support....
