  1. Ok, I will answer my own question...I think. The settlement initially states UND will need to complete its transition to a new nickname by August 15th of 2011. Obviously this isn't possible with all of the twists and turns, laws, etc that have taken place since the transition. However, it also states "In the event UND secures namesake approval, but such approval is withdrawn After November 30th 2010, UND shall have one year to complete transition to a new nickname/logo, unless parties mutually agree to a time period of longer than one year. To me this means we remain on sanctions unless the NCAA agrees to the 3 year cooling off period. Anyone else see the potential problems this cooling off period could have?
  2. I was trying to find a copy of the settlement online so I could refresh my memory on the sanctions. Will UND remain on the list until a new name is chosen, or is it removed once the name is retired? Hopefully it's the latter, otherwise the amendment to the bill could still hurt UND. As I was looking, I also came across this statement that was released by the NCAA following the settlement in 2007. http://fs.ncaa.org/D...%2BLawsuit.html I found this quote to be especially humorous as well...
  3. Although they say $75 for season tickets, you need to join the Fighting Sioux Club to get those tickets. I don't remember what the minimum contribution level is and I'm too lazy to go look it up again. But those $75 season tix are actually around $400-$500. I'm not sure if a portion of the Fighting Sioux Club money goes back to the football program or not. Either way, it's nice to see we are running in the black.
  4. My guess is that Omaha puts alot of their resources into their hockey program. They don't have to compete with Creighton and UN-L as they do in basketball. Focus on being a hockey school and have that be their bread and butter.
  5. It appears he could play guard on the offensive line but more likely they are projecting him as a nose tackle. He was rated as the #6 offensive lineman in Wisconsin.
  6. It isn't UND's play that I'm knocking as much as I'm knocking Women't hockey. I know UND has improved and is in position to do some good things in the near future...hopefully. I'm just not a fan of women's hockey. Just a personal preference. The reason I posted was about attendance. It's great it's growing but I feel some of that has to do with the Lamoreaux Twins on the team. Guess we will see what happens down the road.
  7. With ORU out of the Summit, perhaps that opens a door for the UND baseball team...if they want to go to the Summit.
  8. I wonder how many fans are showing up to see the home grown Olympic Twins play? I think it's great that attendance is growing for the women. I just have a hard time seeing them fill the lower bowl, let alone the whole arena, on a consisten basis. I support all Sioux athletic teams but women's hockey can be tough to watch in my opinon.
  9. Anyone know how much kids get paid to play major junior hockey in Canada? Will this "payment" help keep some of the kids in the NCAA vs bolting for the Major Junior route?
  10. Here is a website with state name origins. Many of the state names have some type of Native American reference or background... http://www.factmonster.com/ipka/A0854966.html
  11. So now what happens with MWC and CUSA and eventually the WAC? Sounds like MWC and CUSA are talking about some kind of merger or scheduling alliance, at least for football. Does the MWC now add USU and SJSU?
  12. We were selling the Alerus out when it opened, and if I recall, most of those games were not on tv. Not saying that free tv doesn't hurt attendance as I'm sure it does keep a few people away. I believe the biggest factor keeping people away are the opponents scheduled and the product on the field. Montana Western and BHSU fall somewhere between Valley City State and Mayville State in terms of competition level. And the scary thing about that is, UND still wasn't able, heck they didn't even try to throw on Montana Western until the third quarter. IMO, UND was outplayed for much of the first half and that more than anything is keeping people away. I used to go to most if not all home football games. Over the last three years, I've only made it to a handful of games. My main excuses...1. The product on the field and 2. The weakness of the opponents. The schedules will change beginning next year which is nice. It's my opinion that UND still has a ways to go to compete and challenge in the Big Sky.
  13. If thats the case, then how do you explain the turnout for hockey?
  14. I read the letter and thought the same thing about the ending. It could be a bit of foreshadowing fo a future donation or it could just be a generic "wish the arena continues to do well" type of ending. Either way, a big thanks to what they've done for the University thus far!

    Uniforms

We used to have black pants a few years back. This is the only image I could find of them... http://www.fightingsioux.com/ViewArticle.dbml?DB_OEM_ID=13500&ATCLID=1619802 I really didn't like the color combo. Especialy on the road unis which were black pants, white jersey, and green helmet.
  16. That's kind of what I figured. Guess I will have to go to a friends place to watch it.
  17. It appears this game is going to be on tv in ND, SD, and NW Minnesota on Midco Sports net3...channel 322. Does anyone know if you are able to get this game on DirecTV? http://www.grandfork...group/homepage/
  18. I'm not upset, just trying to set things straight with bison fans. Remember, you are on a Sioux Fan message board. Don't like what you read, go back to bville. Back to the rankings...If UND wins this weekend, they deserve to be ranked and will most likely stay in the polls. If they lose, they will drop out of the polls...and hopefully some of the Bison trolls will drop out of our message board.
  19. Or better yet, Dale Lennon. So what is your definition of "catching NDSU as a football school." The only thing that is measureable when it comes to comparing programs is wins and losses and to a lesser degree budgets. Some schools do better with less. As I said earlier, history indicates it goes back and forth and I believe this will continue to be the case in the future.
  20. History shows that these two programs have always been competitive and from time to time one program is stronger than the other. I was trying to point out, to Bisonfan11, that just because NDSU currently has a stronger team, doesn't mean that it will last beyond even this year...as history indicates. His quote was that it's foolish to think that UND will overtake NDSU as the better football school.
  21. I will give you that NDSU is currently a better team than UND and that NDSU has done better than UND against FBS competition to date. But to say that NDSU will always be better than UND at football is foolish. If you look historically at the two schools, NDSU won 23 conference championships. UND won 24. Head to head, UND leads the series overall 62-47. UND and NDSU both have good football programs and it's just a matter of time until the pendulum swings back towards UND. With the Big Sky in the near future, I don't believe our invite is in as big of jeopardy as you would like to think, the pendulum is getting closer and closer to UND's side.
  22. I would agree. However, when it comes to TV sets and TV deals, the networks love Notre Dame. If you want national exposure, ND is a good way to to about getting it.
  23. This is one of the thoughts that I have as well. Not sure what the hang up is with ND "regional tv deal" but are things going to be changing with FSSN?
  24. Mike McMahon's latest tweet says ND and NCHC are still talking and not to count the NCHC out yet. As far as numbers go, one of the articles I linked earlier stated the NCHC wants to stay at 8. The only school they would consider a ninth member for is ND. If a new DI program is started, who knows. But for now they are happy with 8 or a 9th if it's ND.
  25. Several good articles on what is/has been taking place with Hockey realignment on CHN. http://www.collegehockeynews.com/
