  1. Mac Schneider has sent a letter to Fullerton asking for some more time so the legislature can sort the mess out... http://www.grandforksherald.com/event/article/id/206808/
  2. Why would that be a violation of the bill? The bill says that UND can't change it's nickname. It doesn't say anything about what types of jerseys their athletic teams have to wear. Most of the UND teams do not have the logo on them anywhere.
  3. I remember him being interviewed on some Fargo Radio station back in the spring while he was proposing his bill. He was asked about potential negative outcomes of his bill if it were passed. He basically said he had no idea what they would be and they would deal with them if it came to that. I guess it's time to start dealing. By the way, anyone else catch him refer to Spirit Lake as Spirit Mountain? I can't believe so many people listened to this guy...
  4. SFI has chimed in with a brief entry on the nickname issue... http://siouxfb.areavoices.com/2011/06/13/big-sky-situation/
  5. Not much new that hasn't already been stated. Faison says he's pretty confident on what the NCAA's position will be, but he wants that meeting to take place before moving ahead.
  6. I must of missed that caller, I heard a caller (Kent I believe was his name) state the opposite, that changing the name isn't going to stop students from wearing Sioux gear or using "Sioux" chants at events. So far nothing new or earthshattering to report. Faison will be on in a couple of minutes, if I'm able to listen, I will try to give some updates...
  7. Starting the talk about the nickname now. Faison will be on at the top of the hour...
  8. Will Minot ever pass GF as the 3rd largest city in ND? linky
  9. Cause of death has been released... http://www.grandforksherald.com/event/article/id/204060/group/homepage/
  10. Anyone planning to run in Fargo this year? I will be running the half...my second Fargo half marathon. As usual, I will be decked out in Sioux gear....and perhaps some rain gear
  11. I would say that KSU is better than Idaho (granted Faison didn't schedule those games). I would say KSU has more name recognition/success than Northern Illinois and possibly both Fresno St. and San Diego State due to it's Midwest location. I understand we are in the Big Sky and we are going to try to play schools out west...Wyoming is another on the schedule. It would still be nice to play a midwest FBS schools once in awhile. Teams such as an Iowa, Minnesota, Kansas, Wisconsin, Illinois...etc.
  12. Just a guess, but maybe another parking lot for the first one? EDIT: By the way, whatever happened to the City Beat blog?
  13. Did that have anything to do with the results from your teams football game that day? Regardless of atmosphere, a record amount of tickets were sold. Personally I am more excited to see the two schools play in football than I am in Basketball.
  14. According to this article, UND's schedule is filled for 2013. The same article only has 11 games listed. Does UND have a 12th game that hasn't been announced or are they sticking with 11 games? http://www.grandforksherald.com/event/article/id/201837/group/sports/
  15. I have heard that they do. However, do they sell out against percieved "lesser" opponents? That was the reason I added the "NDSU has owned UND in Volleyball" comment. History shows we have not been real competitive with their program yet this game sold out. Do NDSU games against lower Summit League schools sell out?
  16. Agreed....also, the bolded games are non-conference games. None of those schools need the game against their rival yet the games still happen because of fan interest. Fans from both schools can say they are over this game and ready to move on, but I won't believe that until it's proven. In other words, have the game played and see how ticket sales, media marketing, hype, etc go. Just look at the basketball game last year as an example. I believe it was the largest crowd to watch a Sioux/Bison basketball game in the history of the series. EDIT: You could even look at the vb game played at NDSU last fall as another example. NDSU has owned UND in volleyball yet it was a sold out fieldhouse with the NDSU band playing and lots of Sioux fans in attendance...I was one of them.
  17. Ok, so it's 2013 that UND has contacted NDSU about. Again, we don't need the game nor does NDSU, but it sure would be fun. The 2013 schedule is already a great schedule, including 7 home games. Add NDSU as an out of conference road game and that schedule would be the best we have had as long as I can remember.
  18. I don't know if anyone else watched WDAZ sports last night but Sweeney said that UND/NDSU have open dates matching up starting in either 2012 or 2013 and that UND has contacted NDSU about playing but haven't heard back from NDSU yet. Anyone else catch this?
  19. I agree with the sentiment that we don't "need" the game nor does NDSU. As a life long resident of ND, life long Sioux fan, and life long Bison hater, I want to see this game resume. I want UND to have a football rival. Sure we can say Montana or some other Big Sky school will become a rival, but in my opinion, that isn't going to happen anytime soon. Montana's rival will always be Montana State. There is a long history of playing the bison in all sports and I'm not ready to let go of that. Sioux/Bison week in football was huge and something the whole state would look forward to and talk about. Do we need the game, no. Do I want the game, heck yea! Edit: USD is a nice game to have, but in no way does it come close to the rivlary we had with ndsu...imo
  20. Just out of curiosity...Were you born or raised in North Dakota?
  21. UND can host the Final Five as it is not an NCAA event...
  22. http://www.fightingsioux.com/ViewArticle.dbml?DB_OEM_ID=13500&ATCLID=205144141 Scroll to the bottom of the article and you will see it...
  23. Not necessarily an upgrade in talent, but an upgrade to DI status which counts towards total wins for playoff eligibility which is at least an upgrade. It's too bad if the Montana game isn't being played in 2013...
  24. I've been as disappointed in the scheduling as anyone else has. This schedule is nice to see, but hopefully we stop scheduling NAIA/DII startups in a hurry.
  25. Finally some nice, positive news in regards to scheduling! The 2012 season can'g get here fast enough!
