  1. They are also having a tough time getting lower end teams coming to Fargo as is evidenced by still needing a game to open the season. I guess that's the price to pay for having a National Championship and for being so far away from a majority of FCS schools. Teams don't want to travel that far when the most likely result is, they are going to get spanked.
  2. I agree that it's a good formula, but so is playing your biggest rival (and spare me the SDSU, UNI talk) every other year at home. The year that NDSU goes to UND, they could either get rid of their (home) warm up game or give up their money game (road game) and still play a "warm up" game.
  3. Thats also something I've never understood as far as who needs it more. Both schools would benefit from the game being played, maybe UND wants it more because we aren't afraid of playing on the field, to prove who's the better team, and possibly losing. Whereas NDSU, again, is afraid of not only losing, but losing the perception that they are the more dominant team in the Dakotas. So if that's what you mean by "needing" it more, than yes...maybe we do "need" it more. One look at biville and the numerous threads and thousands of posts about this game shows that there would be interest in a game if it were played.
  4. Re-read my post, I said I'm surprised that NDSU wouldn't do that for their upcoming games against Montana, Montana St. et. Basically NDSU is running out of excuses to "play their little brother" as bville posters like to say. Why is that, perhaps it's because they are afraid of losing, as they did in VB and BB this year, and proving that their athletic department really isn't that much further ahead/better than UND then they would like to think it is? NDSU fans used to like to say any team any time....They should change it to any team any time as long as it's not UND...We are afraid of losing to them.
  5. This. Many if not most schools will do this for their season ticket packages. I can't believe NDSU doesn't do something to this effect already. Not just for conference games that are premium but for the non-conference premium games they have coming up such as Montana, Montana State...
  6. Has NDSU been able to find a non-conference opponent for next year's schedule yet? I'm guessing NDSU will be paying some big money to have a "cupcake" come in last minute or they can go on the road for a payday at OU or FSU. NDSU and Fargo would make more money off a UND game then they would some "Cupcake" team. As others have said, charge $15-$25 more for that game. Sure some people are going to be upset but that's too bad...it's the law of supply and demand. And I would have to say that pretty much every other University in the country has figured this out and does it for there "big games/rivals."
  7. I agree that many of die hard hockey fans are "nickname at all cost." There are also die hard football, basketball, etc. fans that plan to vote in favor of keeping the name because they don't understand all of the ramifications. I guess the point I was trying to make is that the "nickname at all cost" crowd isn't looking at the big picture and how it can affect the University. Maybe I should have said there are three groups. A "Nickname at all cost" group, a pro-nickname group (want to keep the name but don't understand all of the ramifications of doing so) and a "pro-University" group. If UND's administration is able to educate the pro-nickname group to understand all of the ramifications of voting to keep the name, perhaps they can get them to become pro-university.
  8. I'm not so sure that's the best way to classify them. I would say that the battle right now is between the "nickname at all cost" crowd (not necessarily just die hard hockey fans) vs the "pro-university crowd" which includes nickname supporters but this group is looking out for the best interests of the University as a whole.
  9. It doesn't matter if we go backt to DII, it's still the NCAA. We would still be under sanctions in DII and DIII.
  10. You are correct. Sorry, I tend to get a bit worked up over all the fans who don't believe what the NCAA, Big Sky, and UND officials are trying to tell them. No matter how it is explained that just don't want to hear it or believe it. This is why the SBoHE needs to make a stand beginning on Monday.
  11. They have already said that the vote doesn't matter. It's in the settlement. The Tribal Council has to give a 30 year binding, legal, document giving their permission. A vote by SR members doesn't do that.
  12. Pro nickname folks can speculate all they want about what could happen in regards to scheduling, conference affiliation, recruits etc. But history and facts show what the reality is and that reality is not good if we vote to keep the law. Letting SL give it their best shot in Federal court is the only option for keeping the name and not screwing the University.
  13. We didn't ask him, but he apparantly will have the opportunity to vote his opinion on the matter.
  14. Yes they are hypocrites, the whole policy is hypocritical. But as the others have pointed out, every other school has either change their name or gotten the necessary tribal approval which is what UM, UW, etc use for rationalization to play those schools.
  15. I agree that if this thing gets on the ballot, the University could be in trouble. The Herald has a poll on it's website and so far, voters would approve the name by a 64%-36% margin. http://www.grandforksherald.com/event/article/id/228879/ Hopefully the SBoHE decides to challenge the constitionalilty of the bill at their meeting on Monday.
  16. UND was the Sioux when they invited us, but we also had the agreement in place with the NCAA that we were dropping the name if we didn't have tribal approval. Guess what, to date we still don't have tribal approval and this law isn't going to get the approval the NCAA is looking for. All we can do is support the legal case the SL tribe is trying to do. If that's successful, then, perhaps we can save the name.
  17. And who does Fullerton answer to? In other words who is his boss? That would be the Presidents of the universities of the Big Sky. Ultimately, he answers to them and is their voice.
  18. There is so much wrong with this post I don't even know where to begin. For starters, why would Fullerton go on public radio and basically say the exact opposite of everything you are "assuming" he would do? The tv deal with FSC expires before we even enter the Big Sky and it basically only shows hockey games...which the Big Sky doesn't offer. Btw, Northern Arizona, BSC member, also has a contract with FCS and carries their games...that the BSC actually sponsors. And the University system, NCAA isn't a business and aren't run by business minded people. They are run by "educated, PC correct" presidents. They are the ones making the decisions. They don't care what the average North Dakotan thinks because most of them haven't been "educated" like they have.
  19. Stand Rock has already had the chance to vote. They had the opportunity to vote for Tribal Council members who would support the Nickname. Didn't Archie Fool Bear, or some other Nickname supporter run for election last summer and lose? Even with the vote now, The NCAA has no intention of acknowledging the vote. UND needs the approval of the tribal councils. So support SL in it's lawsuit, but don't put the University in danger...which they already are.
  20. There are no facts in that blog other than the Fullerton quotes. Why couldn't Rob Port have been a bison fan?
  21. Btw...where are all these nickname at all cost supporters now? I would like to hear there thoughts about Fullerton's lates comments...then again, I probably don't...
  22. Here is a bit of a teaser, if you will, of what Mr. Fullerton will most likely be saying on the McFeely's show later today. http://www.grandforksherald.com/event/article/id/228888/
  23. Not to pick on you "Haduke", but I get a kick out of people who think this is such a big story nationally. It's not. All these newspapers are doing is reprinting the "AP" story. Imagine if this was Florida State or Illinois? ESPN would be having reporters at the school and giving updates on Sports Center. I have yet to see this mentioned on sports center and in looking at the ESPN website, you have to dig pretty hard to find the AP story on it. As much as I would like to see this story gain traction in the media and put some pressure on the NCAA, it's just not happening...
  24. Thanks for the info...unfortunately I have a meeting at that time.
  25. According to a poster on bville, it sounds as though Fullerton is going to be on McFeely's radio program today. I can't find any info but his show runs from 2:00-5:00 pm on 790.
