  1. Meh, at this point I don't have much faith in the process and am resigned to the fact that I will have to try to force myself to accept the new name and will most likely just refer to us as UND, North Dakota, or Sioux...
  2. Throw him out, still interesting to find the ones linked to someone associated with UND, the Sundogs and Spirit.
  3. I also tried the names UNDBlizzard.com, UNDmeadowlarks.com, and UNDNorthstars.com and UNDNokota.com and they are all registered to the same person. Someone named Blake Mirzayan in Virginia who works in marketing and public relations. I'm sure it means nothing... http://www.blakehmirzayan.com/
  4. Here's a fun little game you can play if you have some free time. Go to this website http://www.tucowsdomains.com/ andsee if you can match any potential nicknames with people associated to UND. Here's a couple I've found... There is a Steven Light who has the domain UNDSundogs.com registered. http://www.tucowsdomains.com/whois http://und.edu/provost/light-bio.cfm A Jordan Schuetlze from UND owns UNDSpirit.com http://www.tucowsdomains.com/whois EDIT: Apparently the link doesn't show the information. So when you click on the tucows link, enter UNDSundogs.com or UNDSpirit.com to see the people who own it...
  5. Because they needed to build it quick in order to be ready for the World Junior's Tournament...
  6. For all of the conspiracy theorists, how many people think the name has already been chosen by UND? All of this voting is just smoke and mirrors. Did UND go and buy up all of the domains for the names that are still under consideration? If nothing else, I believe they at least have the three names they can live with picked out already (which were submitted by UND). My guess for the final three names will be from the following: North Stars Flickertails Spirit Nodaks Flames Sundogs possibly Nokota's/Nokes...if they ever figure out it doesn't mean Nakota.
  7. I think it would be the opposite. Everyone loves a Cinderella story (team) except for the team that was upset. The P5 wouldn't push for a split because of an upset, maybe if it became a common occurrence, they might make some noise. But how likely will it be that a 16 seed beats a 1 seed? About as likely as as it is for a 12 seed Big Sky Team to make a run in the the conference tournament and win the auto bid...it's not very likely. And on the outside chance it does happen, they would most likely get more exposure during their play-in or 1st round game than they would as a regular seed. Time to embrace the change Darrell. If after a few years this format doesn't work, and God forbid, the 12 seed wins it every year, the conference will re-evaluate and see what is the best direction to go. In the meantime, maybe try to plan an outing to Reno and enjoy some tournament basketball...
  8. Yep, especially if it turned out to be a sixteen seed. ;-)
  9. Then you upset the power conferences who end up losing a couple of at large berths. That would be just one more reason for the P5 to break away from the NCAA or create their own division.
  10. What would happen if the eighth place Big Sky team had made a run last year. There would've been a very good chance that team would've had to play a "play-in" game also. Maybe the the Big Sky should limit the tournament to the top four teams, or maybe even the top two to almost guarantee the winner won't play in the play in game.
  11. Well, it appears I was sort of correct. The Crue and Alice Cooper are coming to the Al...not in July, but in December. Another fairly big show for the Al which is nice to see. http://www.grandforksherald.com/accent/entertainment/3727381-motley-crue-alice-cooper-coming-alerus-center
  12. The only games I feel confident about putting in the win column are Drake and possibly UNC. Our program is no where near the point where we can start predicting that certain games can be classified as a win. Is Bubba doing some good things things with the program? Yes. But until it translates to victories on the field, I will continue to be cautiously optimistic. Remember, we lost to perennial cellar dweller Weber State at home last year.
  13. I'd like to think there will be a playoff matchup or two before 2019. :-)
  14. I don't like sticking up for NDSU fans, but by your logic, UND's fanbase for hockey maxes out at around 11,500, as there are several empty seats at many of the home games that are advertised as "sell outs." We all know that UND's fanbase for sports and especially hockey is larger than 12,000. Just the same as NDSU's fanbase is much larger than 19,000. And was pointed out, this isn't a regular game, no matter what anyone says. I agree that the secondary market will be well north of $100 and wouldn't be surprised if its in the $200 range.
  15. Considering his nephew is qb for the Bison, I would guess he will cheer for NDSU. At least for next year's game...
  16. If you want to go with the Norse theme, how about the Kraken. We could use this in our intro: https://video.search.yahoo.com/video/play;_ylt=A2KLqIVv1iFVC0kAx.23mWRH;_ylu=X3oDMTEyc2lxbGx1BHNlYwNzcgRzbGsDdmlkBHZ0aWQDTU9VUzI3MgRncG9zAzE-?p=kraken&vid=a6e455cf4563142b4a6248beaf6686a1&l=1%3A30&turl=http%3A%2F%2Fts4.mm.bing.net%2Fth%3Fid%3DVN.608046870031829839%26pid%3D15.1&rurl=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.youtube.com%2Fwatch%3Fv%3Dgb2zIR2rvRQ&tit=Clash+of+the+Titans+Release+The+Kraken+%5BHD%5D&c=0&sigr=11b23rfe7&sigt=11bj7otuc&sigi=11rt11u5e&age=1269639590&fr2=p%3As%2Cv%3Av&fr=iphone&tt=b
  17. Didn't bother me in the least, other than you trying to correlate the lack of interest in your link to a lack of interest in UND football.
  18. As for the Vikings RB situation, is the former Georgia Southern RB, Jerrick McKinnon not in the long term plans? He's a bit undersized but seemed to do pretty well last year.
  19. This has nothing to do with UND Football. Crockett played at NDSU and he never played against UND. Not sure why you are so surprised that no one here has interest in your link?
  20. Um, we do have more sports than just hockey...
  21. Their located 107 miles from The University of Tennessee. I can't imagine UT only reaches out within in 50 miles of Knoxville. I couldn't find any current data on etsu' bball attendance, but an article from a couple years ago was talking about poor attendance and averaging a little over 3,000 people per game. ETSU is in a town of 65,000 not that much different than GF. And again, UND is a/the flagship school in ND. Nothing against ETSU's program, just shows that UND men's basketball is not a priority. Hopefully our administration figures out that an appearance by the men's team in the big dance has numerous positive benefits for the University and starts investing in it a bit more.
  22. Agree, however how much of a stepping stone can it be to go from UND to East Tennessee state. ETSU was the 5th place team in the SoCon, 2 games above .500 on the season. Would like to think a flagship school could pay their assistants better than a directional school from a poor BBall conference. Just another illustration as to how our administration values our Bball program.
  23. I could actually handle a season or two of .500 ball every now and then if the team at least worked hard and was fundamentally sound. But as gfhockey and others have stated, our Men's bball team is tough to watch ("they just ball"). I don't want to lump all the players into the categories of not playing hard or fundamentally sound. But as a team, overall, it is very frustrating to watch. Just as the football team was very frustrating to watch under Mussman. I think we have some kids who can play and want to be coached, unfortunately our staff is not doing a very good job of that. I also don't like that we are potentially losing four players. Especially a few who can be good, solid DI players if coached up. I would like to be positive about the direction of the program, but there are just too many red flags with it right now which is too bad. I really think there is potential with Hooker, Crandell, Seales, Shanks, and Cashmen...I just don't feel to confident about the staffs ability to coach them...
  24. No need to worry about losing four players during the off season. Jones has things under control... The new freshman coming in will take us to the top of the Big Sky next year...
