Danny wanted a shot to be the head coach of UND Football this season? Many thought Bubba wouldn't be head coach this year?

That's why I advocate going straight to the top. Get a good coach and double their current salary and/or UNDs football coaches. No pussyfooting around with hoping "this guy" will be good. "We don't have money to go FCS"....yet they always find a way. "NDSU doesn't have FBS money to pay a coach".....yet they'd find a way. UND can find a way to bring in the highest paid FCS coach if they really wanted too...

I'm not sure what that means. I think better coaches are better coaches. We can get one of the best at the end of the year and almost instantly go upwards! Just wonder how much we gotta spend! And I say let's do it. I think we should go out and get the current SDSU head coach! I think we can all agree he's probably one of the best in FCS!

How much would it cost to pull a former NDSU head coach to coach UND? We can instantly go to the top with enough $$$$!!! Or maybe we can offer SDSU's current head coach 3x what he makes now?!

So many people don't know how many FCS playoff wins Bubba has. How am I suppose to respect their opinion?

UND didn't fire Mussman til a 3-8 season. 5-11 his two Big Sky seasons.

It's a sport you watch for entertainment purposes. Affects nothing in your life. Except our own enjoyment is less because we lose more. Cheering is more fun. We all want more fun in our life's. If you think Chaves will just keep extending Bubba, regardless of performance, I got a AZ beachfront property to sell you. But if you wanna disagree what a "fireable season" is than Chaves thinks. That's a point of discussion.

Lol. No, they will have to buy out his remaining contract....a "golden parachute" if you will. Just like they did with Mussman. Guess how many years Mussman had left on his contract? 2. None of this process is new. We've been playing this same process out since the inception of SiouxSports. We can all go back and look at history of posts on this site and see exactly what the future will look like.

Yeah it sucks we're all frustrated with how the season played out. I'm sure Chaves is gonna sit down with Bubba and discuss the season. And there's a real possibility he sucks again next year and he losses his job. Chaves likely trying to gather some funds from ex football players (amongst others) to buy out his contract should it come to that. The seat is definately getting warmer for Bubba. IMO, He's getting a "C" grade, the edge of being fired. But just good enough to not be fired. We need to ask ourselves where is the line for next year? Mine is a playoff win. Anything less than that: time to try someone else.

Oh that's just a part of normal contract talks. You usually start working on a new contract during your current contract. In Bubbas case, it's always been "2 year extensions." We know he won't make it that long but now his current contract expires at the end of 2027. So when 2026 comes around they would have begun working on another 2 year extension (usually in case the process takes longer than hoped.) I don't necessarily like it either; but thats the way it usually works, and coaches usually will start to look for other options near "lame duck" contract years. They build in "safe guards" in the contract if they decide to fire Bubba. "Bubba we will pay you zero if we fire you." "No" "ok partial"....and so forth as negotiations go....hence why it could take some time. Huh? That's how paying people works. You fire or extend. You would have fired him. The reason is he made them playoffs and beat NDSU. So they decided not to fire him. You really didn't know why they extended him?!

He has won a playoff game. Ok got it, you would have fired the head football coach last year after the playoff loss. A season in which UND beat NDSU. Little strange to me but to each their own.

Not really. You could argue, it's the same as not firing him. Ain't no one firing a head coach that made the FCS playoffs 4 out of the last 5 years like Bubba has before this season. That's what were gonna blame Chaves for? lol

I, like most, really only follow hockey and football. Which he didn't hire. So there's really no point to be made there. If one is the actual AD for a day, the reasonable thing would to tell Bubba.... Next year (2025) will be your last unless you meet these parameters...like winning a playoff game. And if your Bubba you go "f, that's hard I've only ever done it once in 10 years!"

I've seen that exact same argument for every athletic director and every major head coach for UND over the last 25+ years. Sorta rings hollow when its constantly thrown around.
