  1. Meh. North Dakota has plenty of cities that have indoor ice for their high school hockey teams.
  2. Has college hockey ever been broadcast on "over the air National TV?" FCS has more schools. And higher attendance. It clearly has a bigger following than college hockey. Nearly 2 and a half million watched NDSU win the natty this year. I don't think hockey natty was ever broke the one million mark.
  3. And let's be honest, college hockey is so irrelevant in the national picture there isn't enough interest/teams to even have a "second tier." Only 60ish D1 schools. The same amount of teams in March Madness. And there's no D2 hockey, so "second tier sport schools" get to play "first tier hockey" only because of lack of national interest.
  4. This is also similar to my experience in Key West last week. "Oh yeah we've heard of NDSU." There's really no doubt NDSU football has much higher national profile than UND hockey. Saw the other day Jon Gruden had a NDSU picture hanging on his hallway wall.

  6. Current DU head coach: been there for 5 "NCAA tournament years".... Who's currently 35 Years old....has already had.... 3 Frozen Four appearances. 2 National Championships. That's my grade "A" and a "program builder"... ...just like (it seems) every NDSU Football coach who they hire.
  7. OK you rate him an A. I reserve that type for guys who win more than one Frozen Four game in game in 11 Years (and never winning a FF game after year one) but that's just me. Theres no hypotheticals in these scenarios. We have 11 years of actual Hakstol data to show what he can do as UND head coach. He literally never "built the program to higher grounds (in peak data points)." ......follow me for more as we talk more about the "mean, median, and mode" for those who fell asleep through statistics class.
  8. DU = NDSU Football. DU since 2004....first new head coach hire since new Ralph was built: 5 National Championships....UND 1 Our rivals been kicking our ass for multiple decades across lotta sports! Those are "A" programs who keep building even after coaching changes. Which UND, for whatever reason, does not have.
  9. Cratter would easily make the frozen four. 1) Krissy engelstad...I need to borrow some money. 2) "vegas's finest" fly in on recruiting weekend 3) "pretend you're a normal college girl who's really interested in these men" 4) Cratter never lost a recruit, even to ASU! Times change but human behavior never does: Sex, Drugs, and Rock & Roll!
  10. For context Hakstol was, I believe, 46 his last year coaching UND. Berry (hopefully his last year coaching UND) is currently 59 years of age. Age matters.
  11. Hak's grade was about a B. Berry is like a D. But times have also changed. We don't know the long run of the breakup of the WCHA and the introduction of the NIL (& lesser extent social media). Berry could be struggling because of these (especially NIL). Or his age and the game/recruiting has left him behind. We all crave an "A" coach like Blais was though. That's my point: When will we actually get a program building coach, Hak nor Berry has been that guy.
  12. Not sure what you're missing. He also peaked his first year (in part cause of others). Be great for UND to get a coach who can actually build a program!
  13. When will a UND coach actually progress (get better) as the seasons and years go on? Hak and Berry both peaked first year. Never building a program to match their first year, partially relying on teams others had built. When you ignore those years they have a near 20 years combined, with zero Frozen Four wins. Program certainly needs some new blood to reignite the fire.
  14. Let's be honest any person from this site could match Berry's NCAA win total since 2016.
  15. ......"Done deal" to be shot down.
  16. Them crusaders sure do like to flop.
  17. It's not everyday you have a friend who you met in college and also enjoys talking sports on this website. Eric Groves was one of those people. Excited to move back to the area and start attending more UND events in person. Sadly that didn't last long. He passed at the young age of 39. RIP @UNDColorado https://www.gilbertsonfuneralhome.com/obituaries/eric-groves

Which is not a "non competitive federal funding." Which is NDSU fighting for money in Bismarck every two years. Which UND is also fighting for. There's no doubt NDSU is better at research with their ag than UND is with their med. That's why NDSU had their first R1 granted 20 years ago. UND has been above the R1 minimum threshold for many years but was never granted it, likely based on other criteria than research dollars, that wasn't met. Carnegie did almost double the numbers of R1 schools from 2005 though.
  19. Glad to see they changed back. Two nights now. Event must keep growing.

A journalist and research dug up ten years worth of data using, For twelve land-grant universities, including NDSU. This accounted for nearly half agricultural research grants awarded. The average school got $11 million a year in ag research grants the research showed. NDSU spends about $160 million a year on research expenditures and is top 100 research university nationwide. https://investigatemidwest.org/2023/08/17/graphic-midwestern-land-grant-schools-received-at-least-42-of-ag-research-grant-money-data-shows/ That "large portion" is very small. All their grants, competitive and non competitive from federal funding, accounts for less than a 1/3 their expenditures.

Just another fact as NDSU has had this classification for years.

Just pointing out the rest of the story.... NDSU can't compete for billions of dollars of research funding that UND can. The main university research dollars for their industries are: USDA AFRI (ag) and NIH (med). One gives out like $400 mill, the other $30 billion a year. Just the facts. You can form any opinion based on it you wish.

One has an ag school and one has a med school. Ag might give out less competitive grants. But med funded research going to universities is multiple times larger than ag. $billions vs $millions So at best it's a wash argument.
  24. Ever since the Berry family was caught with the trademark... Maybe he'll step down if UND gives the trademark back to them?!
