Am I crazy to think there's more rich people and boosters in the Twin Cities to give recruits money than Grand Forks, ND? Bemidji, MN? Of course one rich booster can change everything. Seeing that in Miami Basketball right now. Lots of question. It'll play out more over the years as we see so and so schools become "the place to be."

My imaginary scenario wasn't too far off. Its beanies and sweatshirts. From one of Minnesota's "Collectives"... A few days ago an AD at a Big Ten school said "NCAA could splinter without stronger NIL rules: ‘We’ve got to get our act together’.

One of these is the wild emerging world of "Collectives". " How large is your schools collective?"

If not already, there's going to be thousands and thousands of these transactions. Some publicly. Most not. There is no "NIL list" that needs to be reported to the NCAA. $1,000 an hour to mow grass was an obvious violation back "in the day". But now "Using a name, image, likeness", with social media doesn't have a market cap. An example in our backyard, Engelstad Arena is not owned or operated by UND (edited). They have an incentive to have good players play in their arena. There is now no rule stopping them from spending money however they want to make this happen. This might sound good to UND fans, but it's not a unique situation. And finding creative, but also legal, ways to do so is just beginning. And we are only at the tip of the iceberg.

In a way, this is more valuable to the Instagram and YouTube generation than money, as it would give them mega social media clout posing with this stuff during their careers.

I imagine it's as simple as: "3M has donated unlimited usage of a mansion on Lake Minnetonka to all current Gopher hockey players. Equipped with Lambos, jet skis, snowmobiles, ice castles, and pontoons." All this costs 3M is a little depreciation in exchange for a few pics of them in 3M hats on their social media pages. I don't even think the players need to file anything for tax purposes. If they felt the need to "keep these kind of things private" it doesn't seem to be very hard. Or a youtube ad. All my youtube ads seems to be for Scheels. "I'm (hypothetical current player) Carson Wentz and I love shopping at Scheels." Hard to imagine this isn't the future. We're seeing some of the most lopsided games in NCAA hockey history and it just seems to be by the richest programs.

Is this why we are finally starting to see the Big Ten so quickly and easily rise to dominance after the NIL was passed. Pure coincidence?
