  1. Them crusaders sure do like to flop.
  2. It's not everyday you have a friend who you met in college and also enjoys talking sports on this website. Eric Groves was one of those people. Excited to move back to the area and start attending more UND events in person. Sadly that didn't last long. He passed at the young age of 39. RIP @UNDColorado https://www.gilbertsonfuneralhome.com/obituaries/eric-groves

Which is not a "non competitive federal funding." Which is NDSU fighting for money in Bismarck every two years. Which UND is also fighting for. There's no doubt NDSU is better at research with their ag than UND is with their med. That's why NDSU had their first R1 granted 20 years ago. UND has been above the R1 minimum threshold for many years but was never granted it, likely based on other criteria than research dollars, that wasn't met. Carnegie did almost double the numbers of R1 schools from 2005 though.
  4. Glad to see they changed back. Two nights now. Event must keep growing.

A journalist and research dug up ten years worth of data using, For twelve land-grant universities, including NDSU. This accounted for nearly half agricultural research grants awarded. The average school got $11 million a year in ag research grants the research showed. NDSU spends about $160 million a year on research expenditures and is top 100 research university nationwide. https://investigatemidwest.org/2023/08/17/graphic-midwestern-land-grant-schools-received-at-least-42-of-ag-research-grant-money-data-shows/ That "large portion" is very small. All their grants, competitive and non competitive from federal funding, accounts for less than a 1/3 their expenditures.

Just another fact as NDSU has had this classification for years.

Just pointing out the rest of the story.... NDSU can't compete for billions of dollars of research funding that UND can. The main university research dollars for their industries are: USDA AFRI (ag) and NIH (med). One gives out like $400 mill, the other $30 billion a year. Just the facts. You can form any opinion based on it you wish.

One has an ag school and one has a med school. Ag might give out less competitive grants. But med funded research going to universities is multiple times larger than ag. $billions vs $millions So at best it's a wash argument.
  9. Ever since the Berry family was caught with the trademark... Maybe he'll step down if UND gives the trademark back to them?!

Fatal blow was by a girl from Winnipeg. Bison Car, stayed out, and got some screen time as the leader of the race. Sawalich, a favorite to win, is from Eden Prarie, Minnesota.
  12. Lol. Idk logic would definitely tell you the numerous Indian reservation casinos all over the state was built with drug money.
  13. Can't have any Chinese company building within a million miles of gf cause....scary! And natives americans wanna build a casino near gf must be drug dealing gangs..scary!

For sure. He was just hanging out at "Snowed In" with our local YouTubers, CBoys. I always find that little annual series pretty entertaining.

It's Daytona week! Which means the start of the Nascar with the biggest race of the year: Daytona 500! ARCA: the lower Nascar series will also be racing. And there's a NDSU student driving a NDSU car. https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.valleynewslive.com/2025/02/11/ndsu-student-make-daytona-international-speedway-debut-bison-car/%3foutputType=amp Which will be nationally televised on big Fox this Saturday at 11 am Central time.
  16. The city gets a million dollars a year. The people get more job options. The visitors get more hotel and entertainment options. Downside: we can't let people decide how they want to spend their money. The other downside is when money is involved people really perk up. You: "We need more money!" Spirit Lake: "It'll take our money!" Other cities: "Hey, why they get that money and not us. Not fair!" 💰 💰 💰

Two decades of wasted UND hockey... 20 years.... Only two championship game appearances... 😔 We're what we despised (the gophers). Sad but true. We all had such high expectations with the new Ralph. Reality is hard to face.

Don't worry just remember it's not your grandparents Colorado College anymore. Parity has happened remember. UND just can't be as good anymore because of parity.

You're a fool of you think the AD has the power to fire the head coach of the hockey program without the President's approval. Everytime you say Chaves name you must then include Armacost. Armacost runs the entire university. Chave's boss is Armacost. Fire Armacost for not firing Berry!
  21. And oddly enough, Fargo and Bismarck are closer to their "Indian reservation" gambling than GF. If anything just grant GF an exception clause. Bismarck is so close to their casino they have/had shuttles for (my) grandparents.
  22. ND Legislation should do everything in it's power to help "underperforming" entities in its state. Swallow your pride and help the less fortunate finally. GF and Turtle Mountain are those two perspectives in their individual categories. If it fails, it's partially petty and shallowness to blame. "A, beat the little guy down so you grow more... Vs... a rising tides lifts all boats mentality."
  23. No casino ≈ $0 Any money is better than zero. Property taxes are an odd entity. If it gets shot down, they'll collect the exact same amount as if it was built then?!
  24. Nah, state just shot down sports betting. We're barely removed from shopping on sabbath before church services. Feds could give two sh!ts. North Dakota lawmakers hate gambling. Still no scratch offs. Just finally got powerball "recently." But like I said before, those things don't hurt GF and Fargo because they're border towns. "We" have legal weed in our "cities" because we ain't all "true North Dakotans." ...also, 2 out of 3 ND's biggest "cities" have scratchoffs. Someday maybe "Bismarck" will realize this...
