You're forgetting there is only something like 34 teams in D1 womens hockey. Based on that its easier for a program to win a national championship than say Men's basketball (and the reason you will never see UND win one). UND should already be one of those programs to win a conference chamionpion, tournament, or NCAA championship. This is the programs 9th years (I believe). It ain't no infant. Here's a crazy stat for you UMD won a NCAA championship in the Second year of its existance! I call that a good coach. UND should have already beaten the Gophers more then zero times before this season. 0-28 is pretty despicable. The mens team started out better against ever team they faced. Very easy to make improvements when the last coach was god awful. The program regressed during her time. Players not only quit on her mentally but physically. The face remains that Idalskis teams has placed lower in the WCHA standings ever year than the preseason polls predicted since becoming the head coach of the Fighting Sioux except this one (which they got 4th instead of the predicted 5th) with last, second, and third to last place ever since he has been here. Everyone knew the twins could basically take over any team and make them an instant winner. You don't think Steve Johnsons fourth year and with the Twins he could have at least finished in 4th out of 8th place? The basic topic of this thread. Exactly. And whos to say they would have never went to Minnesota had Johnson been coach. I didn't care who was really hired back then. Still don't have a dog in the fight. But lomackman seems to hold a grudge/chip on shoulder/ or something. He/she brought the topic up back in October of this year. You would have thought they would have won something. I just like pointing out the fact that they really haven't done anything. Make history yes, but these things should have been done way long time ago. They made history many times this year but still only finished fourth in the league out of eight. In their 9th year of existance? Could you imagine cheering the Mens team if we finished 6th out of twelve? The fact is to the average person looking in Idalski doesn't deserve praise (yet?), yet let along argue what hypothetical coach might have been better.

One season with twins any team could win at doesn't make a coaching career. Who's to say Steve Johnson wouldn't be further along by now and ranked #1 in the country with the twins. If he wins a championship in three years this might not be such a stupid topic.

I have wished more than once this website had a live chat box where fellow fans could shoot the s**t in an informal setting. After reading the topic "Meeting People from this forum" on drywalltalk.com (Drywall is my profession.) I read this and wanted to see if there was anyway to get one on SiouxSports. In case you missed it. There will be no popular vote, no nothing on a nickname. One man will decide what he thinks is "cool" for UND's nickname for the "rest of eternity." Will it be Beavers, Elk, Horses, Blue, Spirit, Or Farmers?

Just a reminder that Saturday (9-6) and Sunday (10-4) is the Grand Forks Men's Show at the Alerus Center. I don't believe that's entirely true, because the school had a ban on playing schools with indian nicknames since 1992 before the NCAA even came out with the whole "Hostile and Abusive" tell others what to think referendum. It appears Wisconsin came up with an "excuse" why they were scheduling UND. One would have to ask WI if they are changin their policy? And if they do and UND is removed from the NCAA list. All is good again. This will be THE story when we play any team anymore on our numerous national televised games. "The Fighting Sioux who are so beloved in the state kept the nickname against all odds and gave the NCAA a big middle finger!" And to top it all off no one can say the name is hostile or abusive. The closest Sioux tribe gave their approval for UND to keep the nickname! (and the other tribe gave their approval years ago which they say is forever).

Time for all SIoux fans to fight. Email the governer telling him your support of the Fighting Sioux and how he wasn't even elected Governor and how it would be a travesty for him to override the vote of the people (house and senate)!

I have a question too. Can the administrators see IP addresses on peoples computers and see if there is more than one name used for that computer.... Say for example if MPLSBison and another name come from the same computer?

Do you have any quotes or facts for that? Wisconsin said they wouldn't play us, but then they played us in womens basketball not very long ago. So they were lying apparently? This No home playoff games, only affects football that that would be rare. I say screw it stand on principle, and keep the name!! Pass the legislation.... Then work on getting the other tribe to comply (got more time), and BOOM all good again in Fighting Sioux Land.

Yeah talking about the MacNaughten Cup. Minnesota also won the MacNaughten Cup in 1997. As did Colorado College in 2005. Wisconsin was the last team to win the MacNaugten Cup outright and an NCAA championship over 20 years ago.
