Brian Jones and Dave Hakstol have something in common. Neither was able to win their conferences post season tournaments the last two years.

So far so good then? UND has only been in the Big Sky two years: has improved every year, never finished below 3rd, and was in the conference title game last year. It took basketball rich, #1 school sport, 7,000 fans a game; Weber State 7 years between NCAA tournament appearances before they beat UND last year. Then there is also the high expectations of the storied Montana Griz basketball program. Then there is Montana State trying to keep up with the storied D1 basketball program of Montana who hasn't sniffed a NCAA tournament appearance for about 20 years. UND isn't playing Morningside and Augustana anymore (Not that UND was tearing up D2 before leaving).

Understood. But when I wrote that last night I didn't want to imply UND could make march madness and win a game. I don't see that happening. It was just to point out crazy things happen in sports and one game usually doesn't mean much (until tournament time at least). I see UND probably finishing 4th or lower in the Big Sky this year. Then by all means we can have the discussion, but until then enjoy the journey.

Here was my reply last night. If a coach was gonna get fired after every bad game. Every coach would be fired. I'm not a proponent of Jones, but i'm not an opponent of Jones either. See where the season shakes out and go from there. He still hasn't finished below 3rd in the Big Sky conference yet.

Games like these make a guy change his tune about Coach Jones. But last year NDSU got blown out by UND and went on to win a March Madness game. So what's a person suppose to think.

Anything but football isn't very big over at Bisonville. They didn't start their UND vs NDSU womens basketball thread until there was two minutes left in the game and NDSU was winning at the time.
