Doesn't change the fact that Roughriders and North Dakota are tied together. Doesn't change fact that the leader of the Roughriders was a North Dakota resident.

Title Nine: Our Prong is Bigger Than Your Prong
Cratter replied to Hammersmith's topic in Other Sports
When you play in the Slummit its easy to be winners. -
You need to learn to deal with the fact that the former President of the United States and a leader of the Roughriders lived in North Dakota for a while and spoke highly of his time here. Go Blame Roosevelt for your dislike of North Dakota's states nickname. Such a tragedy North Dakota wanted to honor him in some way.
-
Only thing UND would be "copying" is the state nickname. Which lots of universities do.
-
Again, (besides "other") the majority of UNDs biggest fans (this site) like\prefer Roughriders. Welcome to the Roughrider State.
-
Never understood why this is so hard for some people to understand.
-
And Flame = UND would be known as the Flamers to NDSU and U of MN people.
-
I only think of one thing with "Pride": and that's gay pride ("Pride Week" at UND would be quite confusing))...and I'm pretty sure that portion of people in society will only be getting a "stronger voice." I guess in hindsight our logo would be quite popular around the country....

So if the no nickname crowd was forced to pick a nickname would Nodaks be the winner?
-
....Sundogs or Force could decrease merchandise revenue.

Dave Hakstol Leaving to Coach NHL Philadelphia Flyers
Cratter replied to Ray77's topic in Men's Hockey
It'll be interesting. Hak set the bar pretty high (besides Natty's). -
Short term vs long term success.

Is this Brad Berrys first head coach job?
-
So did some players just wake up and realize they lost and replaced their head coach while they were sleeping.
-
Well that was fast...unfortunately. Good luck Brad Berry. Bring Back Hakstol.
-
Here's to hoping Faison doesn't take the quick easy way out. Will Hakstol tell UND they should hire Berry thus ensuing he gets the job?

University of North Dakota Hockey 2015-16 season
Cratter replied to Frozen4sioux's topic in Men's Hockey
You don't want 3 x 3. You don't want shootouts. Most people don't want ties. Sounds like a no win. 3x3 is a way to go to less shootouts. And with less people on the ice probably reduces injury's. Its just a way to better determine a conference winner. Doesn't affect national rankings...so learn to live love and adapt. -
The 50s are over. Passenger trains probably won't even exist much longer.
-
Why do some players leave early while others stay and help build UNDs hockey program to greater heights. And try to finish "unfinished business." Is it always mostly about money?
-
Sic's on a roll today.

Those were indeed votes. Most of the members liked Force so far (by a far majority) as most gave it a thumbs up (a vote). Its not meaningless. If zero people voted for a name its no longer in consideration (as should be). But yes a single suggestion could end up being the chosen one in the end. But as you see the final three are going to a "public vote" which the herald poll is. It gives a pretty good indicator or what the general public right now is thinking. Still anyones ballgame, but its fun to speculate. *I should have clarified. That graph from from the herald websites poll and is nothing official from UND.

Whens does the committee resume?
-
Blackhawks 22.78% (557 votes) Force of the North 18.2% (445 votes) Cavalry 12.68% (310 votes) Flickertails 11.62% (284 votes) "The Force" had six committee members give a thumbs up to the nickname. Second place, Big Green and Flame, only got 4. Average these two things and Force is UND's new nickname. (I realize they have only went through less than half the list). The University did a great job of marketing.

Whos got the skills to turn the Sioux logo into a "Blackhawk"?
-
My problem with Minnesota's "logo" is they don't seem to have one for the teams nickname: Golden Gophers. Instead they have a drawings of a cartoon character/mascot in a bunch of different poses: holding a hockey stick, holding a football, leaning on a "M." Personally I like one consistent logo. Preferablely one that doesn't look like anything from Saturday morning cartoons.
