LOL   Fargo has 5-6 times the traffic and is adding 4 more gates and a parking ramp.

If you want to turn around an airport that is underperforming, you have to have a positive, confident attitude. You probably think GFK should just shut down.

If GFK can grab even 1/3 of the MB traffic driving to FAR to fly ...

And 1/3 of the Grand Forks traffic driving to FAR to fly. I know a good amount of people who do so due to the cost difference.

I just booked a flight this morning.  I could have flown out of GFK for $1,098 round trip on Delta.  I instead chose to leave from FAR for $388 on American.  I feel like it is worth the extra 10 minutes or so it takes me to get to Hector from where I live.

KNOX reporting this morning that GFK is the only airport in ND that saw a decrease in boardings over the most recent reporting period.

Probably not a real attractive statistic while trying to entice a new carrier to move in......

Answer on air service from Grand Forks to Denver could come by end of year

Quote

GRAND FORKS – If Grand Forks is successful in securing an air services grant from the United States Department of Transportation, Grand Forks International Airport could see additional service to Denver provided by SkyWest Airlines in the near future.

Pending final City Council approval to move forward on the application process — a vote is scheduled next week — the city could get an answer by the end of the year.

SkyWest, which partners with United Airlines to use its Denver hub, gave a letter of support for the city’s initiative to secure a $1 million grant through the DOT’s small community air service development program. The program seeks to help communities address air service and airfare issues like limited services or high ticket prices. A letter of support is required to apply for the grant.

If the city successfully receives a grant award, the funds would go toward offsetting the start-up costs for SkyWest’s entrance to the Grand Forks market.

“(Grand Forks) is a strong contender for a potential operation to Denver given its limited air service, consistently high fare market and the strong need for travel by its growing business community,” SkyWest Director of Market Development Daniel Belmont wrote in the letter. “Denver would also provide numerous connecting opportunities for a large segment of Greater Grand Forks’ defense industry that generates considerable air travel, particularly to the West Coast.”

Sounds like United flights from GFK to Denver are likely a go. Pretty good news for Grand Forks! You can get quite a few places from Denver International. Hopefully, the city can still figure out a way to work with Delta to get the price of their flights down.

Grand Forks International Airport awaits grant paperwork

Quote

The Federal Department of Transportation has awarded Grand Forks International Airport the one-million-dollar Small Community Air Service Development grant…but the FAA is still developing the paperwork for the Airport Authority to formally accept the grant.
The target is United Airlines to Denver flown by Sky West.
Out of 14 grant recipients, at least six are targeting service to Denver from United Airlines and Sky West.
Executive Director Ryan Riesinger says it may be 2026 before service to Denver begins.
