LeftyZL
Here's a few comments from my perspective: 9. I can't decide who is more homeristic: Gophers or Wild TV announcers. I admit Woog knows a lot of hockey so I'm inclined to say that the Wild announcers are more homeristic. Woog sometimes talks Masucko down from his idiot perch whereas the Wild guys run amok with their homerisms. Heh, I loved the call for Selanne to be called for a diving penalty. I can see it now: Selanne dives to the ice, cuts himself, and calls for a penalty. PLEASE. If the situation with Selanne had been oh...Gaborik with the blood running down his face, I'm sure the FSN rubes would be ALL OVER the refs. The part I bolded, I thought that happend a few minutes later on in the game, not at the time Selanne started bleeding. I wouldn't call it a dive, but he sure tried to make it look worse than the little tug he got was. I'm still not sure how Selanne got cut. They showed the replay and he was in front of the net, but no stick was near his face from what I could tell. Obviously the refs missed something in the traffic or away from the play. He got cut off camera, according the the FSN Homers. The guys in and around the net were getting pushed around quite a bit. They never showed a replay with Selanne. The replay I would have loved to see was that post Anaheim hit late in the second period (IIRC). They showed one replay and I don't think it went in, but I would have loved to have seen just how close it was. I remember Brad Miller's goal early last season that went in and out so fast that nobody caught it. That shot by Anaheim must have literally been inches away from a goal. AccountingStu- That's why I figure the Gopher announcers are somehow less homeristic than the Wild announcers. At least Woog has the capability of seeing the whole play sometimes. The Ducks played dirty the last two games at times, I'm not going to argue that, but the Wild weren't angels either (understandably lost though because the Wild's missed calls weren't really that dirty... just illegal according to the rulebook). AccountingStu
Redwing, did you or anybody else get a chance to see the Isles/Sabres last game where, in the final period an Isles goal was disallowed? From the replay it looked like the puck was in the net by the time the ref waved off the play. What happened there - the replays didn't have sound so I couldn't tell when the whistle blew. I'm assuming he blew the whistle and THEN waved off the play. It was a critical point in the game, though. And would it be too much to ask for a NJ/TB game? Just one? All I've seen so far are the highlites. The Stanley Cup playoffs are so intense and so much fun to watch; the best part is that it only gets rougher and generally less chippy deep in the playoffs. I thought that they had scored, too. From what the announcers said, if the ref thought the play was dead and was going to blow the whistle but the puck goes into the net before the whistle is actually blown, it's still not a goal. Siouxdonyms
or get the canadian channel grand forks has... i've seen every devils game so far and i don't have center ice package But I bet you didn't see every Devils game in the regular season, which I was able to do with NHL Center Ice Package. I was also able to watch any other game I chose to watch. It always seems spendy in October, but I'm always glad I dropped the money on it later in the year. Nope. I've gotten to only watch the Wild, SJ/Nashville (2 games), and only one Buffalo game (I believe Buffalo won 3-2). That Buffalo game rivaled Minnesota vs Anaheim games 4 and 5 for the worst officiated games of the playoffs though.

redwing77
Kindof a silly afterthought, but Dubay was ranting on how May should get a 50 game suspension for his sucker punch. Can't say I wouldn't be angry too if one of my team's players got sucker punched like Johnsson was, but 50 games? He flip flopped so many times this morning. "Its just like Cory Simon" or Bertuzzi or McSorley. Well, no it's not. Simon, Bertuzzi, and McSorley used their sticks, which in combination with their arms make it far more dangerous than a mere punch. I do agree with them that the punishment was light. I don't think May should play for the remainder of the playoffs. However, let's get real here. He was also ranting on how Brad May can't play hockey. Interestingly enough, I feel the same way about Boogaard, but no one is calling for his head. Brad May has played over 880 NHL games and has 123 goals out of his nearly 280 points. Since 2005, Brad's offense has tailed off, for sure, only scoring 3 goals and 7 assists since Boogaard entered the league. Of course, Boogaard has only 7 points in his NHL career. Now, assuming hockeydb is correct, here's another interesting comparison. Not counting the playoffs, since 2005, May has accrued 113 PIM. Boogaard has accrued 120 THIS YEAR ALONE. For a guy who is a worthless hack that can't play, he certainly isn't hacking it too much. So, seriously, before everyone throws May under the bus in general, be aware that Minnesota has a player that contributes just as little as May does to the Ducks. Sure, Boogerbrain has yet to throw any cheap shots akin to what May threw, but Dubay should have kept to the cheap shot and not playing ability. I wouldn't keep Boogaard OR May on my team if I were a general manager.
Siouxdonyms
Red Wings/Flames game has gotten really ugly. That usually happens with a 4-1 game in the playoffs. Can't take my eyes of the TV without something new developing.

Can't take my eyes of the TV without something new developing. It certainly has.... the starting Calgary goalie certainly had a tough night.... but overall Calgary has not looked very good... now the backup goalie looks to be getting a penalty EDIT: Calgary tried to replace their starting goalie so they won't risk an injury, the backup goalie immediately takes a guy out (stick to the stomach) and the starting goalie is back in.... Dumba$$es like that are what make people hate our sport. I'm okay with the rough stuff in the playoffs, but that's the crap that has to go. Maybe the NHL has to start banning the guys who do that kind of crap. EDIT: McClennan will probably need a police escort from the arena to the airport in Detroit. Siouxdonyms
They did mention that the coach might have to get on the phone to get another goalie before the next game.... That's in the same league as the Chris Simon incident, so I'm sure he will have to find a new backup. Senseless move. At 35, he must realize that his career in the NHL is over. WiSioux
While I haven't been paying enough attention to see if all the calls have been legit, but I feel like the refs are trying really hard to control this game. I can't even count the penalties because it seems that someone is always on the power play (it's four on three right now)... but I guess with all the "extras" after the whistles that's what the refs need to do.... seems they've already lost control though.... Like that one sucker punch to the face... although the guy chop blocked him (at least that is what it would be called in football) aiming for his knees/lower legs into the wall. Oh look... another penalty on the play.... Calgary now has three guys in the box I believe... EDIT: By the way, did you see earlier, right off the faceoff when a Redwing player skated to the wall and kinda got his leg stuck, crashed into it, and was down for awhile... that was weird.... By the way another fight with 9.8 seconds left
Siouxdonyms
Calgary has plain and simple shown their lack of character. It's one thing to be emotional, but the tactics they're pulling out there would be enough to be assault charges outside the arena. I'm not a Red Wings fan by any means, but this is just a piss poor performance by Calgary.

If his coach told him to do that then the coach needs to have his head examined, because that would be cheating which is not right.

redwing77
I turned away from the game when that happened! I had to set up a tape. In any case, has anyone remembered a cheaper more poorly officiated playoffs? Did it get like this last year?
