Can confirm that Powers passed a message along to Jax that Smaby was right, his players are soft.

as a gopher fan who has no desire to see a league game played on likely trash ice, i'm very ok with this. Outdoor games are unique (at least previously) and all, but think it's an opportunity to have it between non-con foes rather than what the B10 is doing (UND-MN or UND-WI would be fun as would MN-DU or any of the western teams vs the BU/BC options)

ASU's Mayich Unlikely to Recover, Family Attorney Says

When the attorney says will not recover, does he mean will not be able to return to the team, or will not emerge from the coma? Getting lost in the concern about ASU jobs and the season being cancelled is what the future holds for the former player.

Saying will not recover about someone in a coma is rather ominous.

As someone that was in the military and went through boot camp during the summer at Fort McCellan Alabama, then did two preseason camps in college football. 

When it got to a certain temp in the Military we changed how we trained and drank a lot of water. When it got to a certain temp, we took buses or cattle cars to the ranges. Reading this article, a couple of flags came up.

If this kid was struggling, he should have been taken out of the training and treated for a heat injury. I don't know, we only know what is reported and the truth will come out eventually. WTF, one water break. In football we drank water after every drill.

Sounds like he’s on life support and won’t get out of the coma. The school is being very quiet about it, which begs the questions. How did the Athletic hear about it? Why did it take two days for someone to report it? What if the Athletic never reported it?

At about the same time last year a hiker on Camelback Mountain (in the city) had to be put in a “ice bag” to save their life.

The military takes safety very serious. They had to ask us if we drank our 6 canteens of water a day in boot camp at Great Lakes and if you didn’t they’d ask why you didn’t. Wherever you went you always had a canteen with you.

On the two deployments I did, the Navy gave us Camelbacks when we were in the Gulf (where it’s 120 in the shade). I’d be in the hanger bays and you’d see the squadron guys down to t-shirts and pants working on jets. Since it was hot in the Gulf or Western Pacific the command allowed it.

This is a huge developing story for the Athletic & CHN bound to pay big dividends in the next couple months over other outlets’ reports. Too bad for the negative exposure but something good comes from bad IMHO.

That's really sad.  Personal aversion to bombastic attorneys discussing specifics in the court of public opinion aside, seems suspicious that ASU isn't out ahead of anything here.

I don't think the topic calls for any humor, now or during the season.  Even if he comes out of his coma, with what him and his family has been through, I'd really hope opposing fans wouldn't resort to such tactics.  That kid's teammates had to watch that all unfold and now see him in the hospital in a coma, they don't need reminders in the future.  If I hear or see something like that at a UND game I'll be appalled and would be ok with people being removed for it.  Did people taunt Travis Roy or BU for the awful outcome in '95?

I know it's a minor detail, but I stopped listening to McMahon's reporting when he said the player transferred from Vermont.  Can't be a good source if you can't be bothered to read the jersey in the picture.

I remember when we got to Saudi Arabia during Desert Strom, they had us get acclimated to the weather. I've read where some of these players haven't been there that long or given much of a chance to get acclimated to the area.

A couple of thoughts - I would put a lot more stock in the comment about he will never recover if it was coming from a doctor. And ASU really can't say much about the medical condition of a student.
