This is an assumption but I feel like the kings wanted Hampton and said we'll sign grant too and that pushed it over the top. Was hoping for one more season but can't really ask for more I guess.

Wonder if WI losing Finley and Montgomery helps steer Wiebusch their way.
Certainly can't hurt with them having a couple lineup spots opening up.

Hampton would have been UFA eligible August 15 2027. Kings didn't want to risk losing him for nothing. They liked Grant quite a bit, had him at their 2025 Development Camp.

When Hampton opened his recruiting up, he told every team he would only be in college for 2 years before turning pro. Obviously easy to say, harder to do, but he told teams that.

We’ll see how many portal guys that Carle signs after losing 4 upperclass defensemen. 3 will need to be juniors or better, if Carle believes in experience being the key.  He already has Lin coming in, so the rest should all be portal guys, which I doubt.

They have Macbeath coming in from the WHL as well as Lin.
