Did I expect Schmidt to turn things around with only a spring camp and fall camp? No

Did I expect we’d at least get the most out of the roster that he inherited and finally get rid of the numerous pee wee football level coaching mistakes? Yes

Unfortunately it’s pretty clear the same loser culture is still lingering if not fully alive within the UND football program. I’ll continue to watch and follow as this season goes on but man did I lose confidence in this turnaround seeing the same old short falls we’re all too familiar with. And scary enough, I think what we saw yesterday was just as bad if not worse than the entire bubba era, with Rudy OC in a close 2nd. Bone head player mistakes are one thing but not recognizing the kicker issue last spring, not having even an ounce of 2 min drill abilities in 2/3 games already and the offense play calling is absurdly poor and embarrassing. That’s on the coaches. They’re showing so far they’re just trying not to lose still, and it’s backfiring as usual.

Winning is hard. Years of bad habits are hard to break.

That aligns with what I saw.. ends up being a clock operator discussion versus a rule. There is no guarantee that you can complete a spike with only 3 seconds left

I am not sure what the truth is.  I have seen multiple places that there was a rule change in 2013 that changed it so if under 3 seconds the spike runs out the clock - I think to take it out of the clock operators hands.

NCAA Rule for Spiking the Ball
  • Minimum time: Three seconds must be on the clock.
  • Clock management: A legal spike stops the clock.
  • Under three seconds: If there are fewer than three seconds on the clock, a spike is not a legal way to stop the clock. Instead, it's a normal play, and the clock will run out.

Really hurts is right.
what we saw with Jerry is a qb playing his second high level game.  Didn’t seem to easily find the underneath, middle of the field receivers or blew their doors off with high fastballs.  Better with the long ball.  Too bad he didn’t get meaningful reps last year. He’d be so much farther ahead.
Also need to see more Ziebarth. Especially when trying to run out the game.

Do we all start a Zeibarth chant to get the damn point across? Hopefully they are reading this. Jerry is coming along nicely. He may need some exposure to these things to learn from mistakes. He hasn’t touched the field in how long? I agree with everything you are saying though.

Not that big of a deal. The other two backs (Siedl, Leigh) are just as good. They all three deserve touches.

I’m not sure why a player has to get close to the line when they are supposed to be off the line.

what advantage is there to be 1 foot closer to the line

exactly...he can be 4 yards back and hes fine correct?

Not even close. Seidl is tiny. He may have a few good bursts, but not consistent. Leigh has not done much.
it really is that big of a deal when we lose the game because they are not running the clock down and pounding it up the middle.

Disagree. Seidl is tiny … yeah, okay, have you seen his burst? Apparently not? He’s been most productive.

Leigh has been good but needs to settle in a bit. Z is a good ball carrier no doubt.

All three are capable backs, but the offensive line needs to play better also. It is very close…

He is tiny. 165, soaking wet. Watch him curl up. If anyone is close, he is down. Yeah, if our o-line gets him a nice hole, he does okay and has speed. Z is 40 pounds heavier and they both ran top speed of 20.7. That’s a no brainer to me. If you are satisfied with “just fine” than that says enough for me to take you seriously.

You’re really stuck on top speed

Meh Leigh is fine especially catching the ball but Ziebarth is a much better runner.

Z needs most of the rushing attempts. Seidl struggles off tackle but can break it at any point. Leigh is the best pass catcher of the 3. Really not that complicated in situational FB on who should be in.

Yes

That was a dumb move. I agree. I think he has more than sat his time for that. I’d rather have someone out there that is dialed up than someone that curls up. SS should not be out there for short yardage or pass blocking. Yes, in comparison AND statistically, Z is our guy.
