Per Schlossman: 2008 Canadian Recruiting Targets:

forward Mathis Preston of the Spokane Chiefs

defenseman Carson Carels of the Prince George Cougars

defenseman Daxon Rudolph of the Prince Albert Raiders

defenseman Ryan Lin of the Vancouver Giants.

As a lot of you know, Schloss had stated in a podcast that a 2008 birthdate player told his agent that he wants to go to UND after the Verhoeff and Reschny commitments.

It has been speculated that it was Carson Carels. I would say this list almost confirms it, or at least it would be one of these four.

Just started my Instagram deep dive to see who these August 1 first time eligible (as well as existing uncommitted) recruits are following. Not sure what to expect in terms of who & how many 2009s (as well as US late 2008s) Chyzyk & Jackson will get in this cycle. Interested to see if it will be a mix of Canadians & Americans or more one than the other, & if UND continues to mainly get Western Canadians & Minnesotans or if they're able to break through outside of the normal recruiting strongholds.

If anyone wants to share what they're hearing about August 1 potentials, please do.

Schloss latest article made it sound like UND would wrap up this year’s roster prior to Aug 1st recruiting cycle starting. If that’s the case, I’d guess we’ll be seeing a couple Bat Signals in the next week or two.

It’s going to be interesting to see how many late 2007 and 2008 CHL targets commit before their season starts. Cooper Williams and Pierce Mbuyi are the two most notable players that have already committed, unless I am missing someone. There is a ton of talent left on the board.

I know players that were already committed are making the jump to the CHL, like McKamey. I still think we might be a couple of years away from top Canadian recruits playing in Canada while being committed to an NCAA program.

Braidy Wassilyn is another high end 2008 that has committed, he's going to Boston University. He should be back in the O with Niagara for 2025-26 and then with the Terriers for 2026-27.

I must’ve missed that one, thank you. He’s definitely a blue chip.

Unless we get a blue chip, I would rather roll the dice with a commit we already have. Only a handful of guys would realistically make this team better next season. We could also see players like Menghini or Swanson take huge steps. I don’t hate having Schultz come in early and play a limited role if the alternative is a player with a similar skill set from the CHL. I just do not want to make a lateral move just to get a guy or make the move the gophers did yesterday.

Not happening.

2025 Hlinka Gretzky Camp Roster posted: 2025 Hlinka Gretzky Cup Selection Camp Roster and Staff

Every player in the camp is a 2008 & 18 are still uncommitted (Nick Bogas is mistakenly listed as uncommitted, he's still committed to Michigan State).

Anyone with insight on Zaide Penner? Fargo kid.

Mentioned Brody Gillespie on here once after skating in a pick up with him. Big and skilled, was buried in the lineup in Spokane this past year but will get more opportunities with turnover.

Don't know anything about his game specifically, but he's listed as a 2027 HS graduation year, meaning he's first time commitment eligible on August 1.

With all the CHL options and NIL$ out there, I think we are going to see a trend of top recruits NOT committing 8/1.  I think a lot of chippaz going to play the field for awhile before pulling the trigger.

I think top programs will have more recruiting leverage than they ever have. The bluest of the blue chips will be able to play the field but if they are not one of those guys, I think it would be in their best interest to commit to a blue blood early. There is only so many spots for recruits on blue bloods and the recruiting pool just doubled.

If the rumors currently circulating end up being true, three of these players could be on UND's roster next season. :0

I hope Verhoeff goes into that locker room and talks about how great his first couple of weeks have been at UND.

I think this might have been the worst selection in recent memory. All the good MN kids were cut. Vandertop was near the top in points and he got cut. Weird deal. They will get absolutely slaughtered by Canada this year.

Not looking for the good ones. Looking for the right ones! :)

Interesting follows by Chyzyk (beyond Bueker, Carels, Desnoyers, etc.):

Owen Moulton

Darels Uljanskis

Ben Geiger

Nolan Fitzhenry

Artu Valila

Matej Mastalirsky

Miroslav Holinka

Theo Stockselius

Those last two are draft pick forwards, could be commits in the near future. More are on his list but just got pinged on Teams so back to work.

Please share anymore notable ones you see. Moulton is a 2011 absolutely destroying Bantam AA for Shakopee. One to keep an eye on for sure.
