Isn't "soon" about over, as in "we'll know soon", that someone posted a couple weeks ago after "the Eagle delivered", etc?

If there's a new goalie, I suspect we won't hear about him until after we hear news that Parise has actually left. In the NFL there's a slew of free agent signings right after the draft. Does it happen that way in the NHL too? If so, maybe we won't know for sure if Parise is leaving until after the draft at some point. And only then find out about a new goalie. If there is a new goalie, it seems like it would be a bit awkward to hear a name before it is publicized that Parise is gone.

I believe that the AHL can't sign any players until July 1st.

Now wait a minute, I have people betting me 5,000 dollars Parise is gone, that is a compelling bet, however, I am not going to spend that kind of money on a foolish bet. Then I hear from about three different sources that Parise interviewed with four different teams. Anohter reason to believe maybe in fact he is gone.

I also hear that Parise is not coming back from everyone I talk to and then now we have people putting on the breaks saying we have not hear for sure that Parise is gone. ;)

Ok, so now I am confused. Who is this big time shut down goalie out there the Fighting Sioux have supposively signed. I know it happened because I am hearing about it from others. Apparently, Lammy is going to have to earn the starting postion because the new goalie is suppose to be a ringer. :D:D

I heard at the Uptown after everyone was treated to an all you can drink buffet for $5.95, that Eddie's coming back. He still has three years of eligibility left and he wants to get his degree as an example for his children. Honest, really, I heard that...... burrrrp.

WHOA.

I'm not saying I know anything. The question I was responding to is why haven't we heard anything about who this new goalie is. I tried to come up with a scenario that might explain why it could be a while until we hear.

I, for one, am not trying to indicate whether Parise is staying or going, nor did I mean to imply as such.

I tried to couch my answer in a way that leaves open all the possibilities (Parise staying and no new goalie, Parise going and a no new goalie, Parise going and a new goalie coming in).

Any impression that Parise is doing one thing or another given by my message was not intended.

John Murray's signing was a bit shocking. Why did he sign with the OHL? Playing time? Surely not, because if that was such a concern why didn't John commit to another NCAA program that would have offerred him more playing time? He had to know that UMaine has a pretty solid goaltender that is enterring his sophomore year before committing. Very interesting.

Matt Lundin, I'll say again, would be a bad idea for the Sioux. Yeah, he's a Minnesota-born goaltender who did pretty well in the USHL his first time around, but he did not wow anyone in a Maine If UND did get Lundin, it would be have to be for the 2007-2008 year (unless I misread that report) and quite frankly, there are better goaltenders available than Matt for that school year.

Bryce Christianson would be an ideal candidate to replace Jordan Parise should Jordan leave and he's eligible/willing to come in next fall. Everywhere I've read states that Bryce wants to play a season in the USHL.

I was hoping that didn't appear that I was jumping on you. That wasn't my intention. I heard from various people we have signed this ringer goalie. Sounds like he isnt a USHL goalie either, but funny thing is no-one knows who he is. All I heard was Phil will be lucky if he is the starter again this season. Of course we heard the same thing about Frazee and Briggs. Also, I am not happy about Parise being gone. I no confidence in Lammy as a starter. So I am also not happy about this. I suppose Jordan could change his mind and come back. I suppose then its bye-bye Walski.

Goon, when all is said and done regarding this matter, once again everyone will say we should never have doubted the Sioux staffs ability to both coach and recruit players. My only concern about this coming season is that the only trip out east will take place while a third of the regular team is at the World Juniors. Just my luck.

No, I didn't think you were jumping on me. But it seemed maybe you had misunderstood my message so wanted to clarify it asap.

Lets face it, the worst thing that could happen is that we have another rough start. We may not make the Frozen Four or even deep into the NCAA playoffs, but that's just less than a year away. There's a lot of time.

I think Aaron Schweitzer was a "Who the hell is he?" type recruit (if not, then I'm wrong again. ;) )

I'm not at Goon's point where I throw up my hands and say "we're doomed" just because Phil is starting in net. I just think that Berry will have his work cut out for him because I really do feel like the team has started taking JPar for granted. That's dangerous to have.

I don't much like this whole "We're heading into '01-'02 all over again" type attitude. I have faith in Hakstol. Even if it is a terrible season next year, Hakstol is the man. Berry is a great associate head coach. Eades is quality too. I may have massive heartburn at times. I may get gray hairs like crazy or lose all my hair (bald, I'm told, is sexy), but I still have faith.

This post is purely speculation on my part but it is an upcoming issue that could free up some US born talent that had planned on going to the Major Juniors. As of next year the US is also going to demand passports of anyone entering the US from Canada. We all know that teenagers typically do at least one or two bone-headed things before becoming adults (wow that was a long time ago ;)) and it is very possible that some kids are carrying records of some kind. If I am not mistaken, just as in Canada, even a misdemeanor can mean no passport. For example some US born players in the Canadian Football league are having to abandon their careers because of minor offences. I just hope it doesn't impact any of the Canadians we already had in mind.

Lets not get into the flaws with Canadian Law. However, how does Bochenski get into Canada with his previous offense of Conterfieting. I know a guy that got a DWI 4 1/2 years ago and still can't get into Canada. I am not saying a DWI isn't serious, but its not like he committed murder. That frankly is a stupid law.

Your question is easy to solve: Part of the sentence or ruling (whatever) was that, after Bochenski's 18th birthday (barring a repeat offense), the record of his counterfeiting charge will be removed from the books. Ergo, it doesn't exist. A clean slate so to speak. So, according to this law, Bochenski wouldn't have a problem.

At least, that's what I took from what I've read on here a while back. Other posters here have better memories than I.

The rules for students entering the United States will not change. When applying for student visas there are forms and forms and forms to fill out, this includes Canadian students. Since 9/11, while the forms have not changed (to the best of my knowledge), the scrutiny of the applications has likely become more than cursory.

I don't think that the passport requirement for Canadian students to enter the country is going to change anything. I know that there are schools that require all their foreign students including Canadian students to have a passport. I don't know if this is true of UND.

I am not sure if the athletes get some form of exception but the foreign student office did photocopy my Canadian passport. If the US goes to specail ID cards then no problem for its citizens I guess but the news stories in Canada have lead me to believe that passports will be required for a return to the US. Maybe another Canadian like Canuck has a different view on the subject.

I'm not sure how the new travel requirements apply differently - if at all - for students:

New Requirements for Travelers

The Intelligence Reform and Terrorism Prevention Act of 2004 requires that by January 1, 2008, travelers to and from the Caribbean, Bermuda, Panama, Mexico and Canada have a passport or other secure, accepted document to enter or re-enter the United States. In order to facilitate the implementation of this requirement, the Administration is proposing to complete it in phases following a proposed timeline, which will be published in the Federal Register in the near future.

The proposed timeline will be as follows:

December 31, 2006 - Requirement applied to all air and sea travel to or from Canada, Mexico, Central and South America, the Caribbean, and Bermuda.

December 31, 2007 - Requirement extended to all land border crossings as well as air and sea travel.

It's possible that an exemption for students is referenced with the above text in bold and further addressed below:

Other than a passport, what types of documents will be acceptable under this initiative?

For land border crossings, other documents that we are considering for acceptance under this Initiative are SENTRI, NEXUS and FAST program cards. These are current international frequent traveler programs (see www.cbp.gov for further information).

We anticipate that the Border Crossing Card, (BCC

Here are a couple of recruiting updates that are perhaps of interest to Sioux fans. If you don't care, you don't need to tell me about it...

Kyle Hardwick? Remeber him? Played at Warroad, with TJ oshie. He finally committed and it was to Bemidji for 2007. After being considered a serious recruit after his Junior Year, he really fell off the map. Still though, this will be a good pickup for the Beavers.

Patrick White, who will be a senior at Grand Rapids this year committed to Minnesota for 2007 following in former teammate Alex Goligoski's footsteps. This kid look great and as it stands right now will go to Minnesota right out of High School. If anyone saw him play in the state tournement last year, I think you will agree that he almost single handedly pulled Grand Rapids to the finals. Being he was a Ranger (and a great player), I was curious if the Sioux might be interested. Jon Casey was the last GR kid I can remember in GF. Missing any?

For a school that doesn't produce a ton of D1 college players, there have been some incredible ones to come from Rapids over the years. If that program could ever get good consistent coaching, they would become a state power again. The school seems to be recovering from the "LaRoque" era, nicely...

That is incorrect concerning the DWI. You can get into Canada with a DWI on your record. However, to do it you will have to pay the equivalent of the Canadian fine for a DWI. AND - you have to be sure that your paying the fine is entered into the Canadian record. Because if it isn't, you will have to pay it again the next time. The trick is that only certain supervisory level personnel at the border crossing are authorized to enter the payment. We have a group that has been going to Canada fishing every year (except for 2 years) since 1976. We have an individual in our group that had a DWI in the 1970's and the border group caught it in the late 1990's when he went in to pay the duty on some extra beer. He wound up paying a hefty fine, but now it isn't a problem to get across.
