Seems like they could use some older D+1 CHL players. They kinda got burned by the same type of player last year (Fondrk, Murtagh, Amico all come to mind as guys that should've all been in JRs last year) My thoughts as well when I saw that announcement. Kraft, Coulter, Korten, Grammar, Q Jackson, Hontvedt, Marvin from the area just to name a few. You can find whole lists on USHL draft board Saw there was a Laurila from Moorhead as well. Quote

Be fun to see their progress and interest in UND. Several guys that were previously selected by WHL teams but didn't sign were drafted, however it seemed quite clear to me that guys that had a high probability of going CHL were not picked up or picked up late as flyers. Seemed to me that the battle lines are really being drawn between USA Hockey and Hockey Canada...which is too bad, because it only hurts the kids. Another note is that the online rating and scouting services seem to be off in left field on a number of these guys. Not surprising. They get paid on clicks, not on wining games or getting guys to the next level. Who got drafed from Grand Forks ? We need some local blood in the future pipeline at some point. Quote

There are a lot of those in the 1st round USHL teams can tender up to two players (2010 birth year this year, always 16 year olds) in exchange for their first and second round picks in the phase 1 draft before the draft happens. Phase 2 draft happened today, which is the 17-20 old pool of guys. I believe teams have 50 guys on their protected rosters. Quote

This year's draft really showed the CHL to NCAA influence. The USHL is scared of guys that also have CHL opportunities. Quote
brianvf Posted Tuesday at 11:16 PM Posted Tuesday at 11:16 PM Tarin Smith from Everett goes to UMN. Not sure how bad his injury is or if he'll be ready by the start of the season. But good pickup for them. As DuPont's defensive partner, I'm not sure how many of Smith's points are just due to him being paired with Landon. Quote

USHL teams are going to really have to do their due diligence in the phase 1 draft. I mean you look at Dubuque last year trading up in the first round to take a kid like Colin Grubb, and he's headed to Brandon next year and likely will never skate a shift for them before he's in Grand Forks. yzerman19 Posted 13 hours ago Posted 13 hours ago It will be interesting to see what happens in the WHL draft. Historically they had the separate US Draft, so they were used to taking flyers there. They picked up Thompson and Morris early last year, but Joey Cullen was picked up later because of the Force connection and the <1% chance he would report. In a unified draft they probably would've slipped a ways simply because US kids are harder to commit. I predict zero top dog american kids go in the first round of the WHL draft this year. 1 Quote
yzerman19 Posted 9 hours ago Posted 9 hours ago any American kid who is 100% committed to CHL either isn't on the NTDP radar or their agent has a bone to pick with NTDP Quote
MGsioux Posted 8 hours ago Posted 8 hours ago So Schlossman had a good article on the USHL draft in todays herald. He mentions 2 grand forks kids picked early. Tyler Kunz and Noah Mcgauvran. Anyone know much about these 2 and any chance we see them in our pipeline someday ?? Quote
