Heard very similar sentiment about Jackson Blake, and he was an undersized 4th round draft pick.

Blake could’ve tested free agency the following summer if he played his junior season at UND. I don’t think it was a risk but it’s something NHL teams do take into account. While many of us wished Blake stayed, he was more ready than Verhoeff. This isn’t meant to be a knock on Keaton either. He is young and it showed but the talent is clearly there.

I did not think Blake was NHL ready at all when he left and I was obviously wrong about that. With that being said, I don't think Verhoeff is anywhere near ready. He has some big skating and processing issues that need to be addressed. He looked so overwhelmed against Wisconsin's forecheck, I don't think there's any chance he could handle the NHL right now.

Blake had holes in his game when he left, but he dominated the college level offensively. Verhoeff has yet to dominate any element of the game at this level. To be clear, I think Keaton has a ton of potential, it's just not put together yet

I'm betting that we start to see a much improved Verhoeff as his Soph season progresses.  Similar to Emery this past season.  EJ had a good but not great FR season, but really started to blossom his Soph year.

Where is Verhoeff going to go if he leaves college? He's not even close to NHL ready. Unless his skating takes a massive improvement over the summer before he goes to a development camp.

The AHL team that drafts him.  He obviously has gone down in draft status, so maybe the NHL team thinks they can develop him better.
