This is the biggest CHL commitment in quite some time. I’m surprised this was announced during the season and it makes me wonder if the player wanted this to get out given it did not come from him. 
 

The floodgates will probably open up here in the next couple of months. This might mean that Prince George’s top defenseman is going NCAA as well…

Really its dumb to not announce your commitment once it's made. The CHL team isn't going to punish the player because they'd look bad. The team knowing right away gives them time to plan for when the player leaves and build a relationship with the college that recruited them.

I think it might be more of what it does to a team dynamic.  Probably is known anyway, but if the team struggles people could sometimes wrongly theorize that everyone isn’t all in.  I think Perron was already at Michigan at Christmas last year.

Not sure about eligibility requirements in the CHL, but maybe he announced early because he's aging out, like MacKenzie. Both are 19.

They are not likely to use goalies for their overager slots, that's why Spunar went from WHL to USHL for his final year of juniors.

Indeed, his recruiting is par excellent, but winning a title will elevate his reputation as well as his program's to the next level. It's one thing to recruit well, and another knowing how to coach in big-game situations, like Ferschweiler & Carle. He hasn't demonstrated that, not yet anyway.

In the podcast, Brad talks about getting one of Lin, Carels, DuPont and Rudolph as though one is a foregone conclusion, then says could they get two, then backtracks and says UND would be lucky to get one. I'm taking that as a sign one of them is a silent commit.

He was kind of all of the place when talking about this. I find it hard to believe that he hasn’t heard rumblings, especially if people like Cam Robinson are talking about hearing whispers of UND silent commits. With that being said, he cannot really say anything more than he already has until something is announced. He’ll never say “I heard so and so is probably coming.”

He did single out Carels towards the end stating that he is the only one of the four that is local.

Liver and Wiebe will be big skates to fill next season assuming both depart...but something tells me that our d-corps will be elite again next year.
Retaining guys like Emery and Strath will be big to have some upperclass leadership from the D group.

His sources were 100% correct in the coaching search, assistant/GM hires, players leaving/staying, etc. I’d recommend giving him the benefit of the doubt.

Lose Liver, Wiebe, Zmolek...maybe Jubs to the portal since he isn't playing?  Hoping Verhoeff stays one more year.

D-corps of Strath, EJ, Laurila, Verhoeff, MacK, Lindberg, Carels*, DuPont*, and Engel would be insane.
The starting 6 + 1 extra skater each night would all be elite.
Agree with you though...it'd be hard to guarantee all those high-end players playing time unless Lindberg is ok going back for one more year in juniors.

It could already be known that Verhoeff or Emery are gone next year. If that’s the case, they absolutely will be after one of the right shot defensemen mentioned above.

Verhoeff would be very wise to stay a second year, especially how young he was coming in.  Would be interesting to know what coaches and scouts would want him to improve upon.  I think a burst of quickness would help him when he makes the transition to even faster and more explosive skaters like MacKinnon and McDavid. Can’t be reaching in the NHL anymore, as any stick infraction is a penalty.

Of the 7 players highlighted above, I don't know in what universe that would even be possible to have all of them on the same team, because it would mean making one of them a 7th D every night or a healthy scratch if you're dressing 13 F. In your scenario, it would look like Laurila would be the 7th D every game (imagine that, an elite D like Laurila possibly being a healthy scratch), with Lindberg or Jubenvill only getting a sniff of ice if there were an injury.

Would be surprised if Jubenvill hangs around next year if that were the starting D...which would be unfortunate, because you groom a player for 2 years, only to have him pushed out when his experience as an upperclassman could have been a stabilizing force on the backend.
