With this new talent pool, roster spots are incredibly valuable. If you're not able to get a high-end guy, I would (1) Add someone from the Portal w/ only one year of eligibility left. Essentially, punt. Have them as your 14/15F. This also frees up a spot in the 2026 F class. (2) Bring in one of the current recruits a year earlier than you expected. Probably Schultz. Frees another spot in the 2026 F class. Important for Schultz is he's at worst 13F since you already have two-depth guys behind him.

I agree for the most part. It is really hard to recruit a player to come in and not have an opportunity to play significant minutes. Most, if not every, player in the portal would not crack our lineup most nights. It is also hard to steer a kid away from their CHL team if they are not going to play significant minutes for UND next year.

That pretty much leaves you with three options:

1. Taking in a recruit early. This would take a recruit out of a better situation for their development.

2. Finding an unsigned/uncommitted player to instantly make your top 2/3 lines. There is probably less than 5-10 of these guys right now. I would also include 2026 draft eligible players here too. Maybe try flip a top recruit from another school and have him come a year early?

3. Find an unsigned/uncommitted guy that has aged out of juniors. At this point, most of these guys have already signed or committed to a college program.

I would be shocked if Porter Martone does not end up at BU.

I could see BC now that Carboneau went a different direction… but I have not seen anything about Martone to either Boston school. Have you?

Sounds like Carbonneau staying put in the Q…things seem to be flipping the other way. This is wild to watch

He has not signed his ELC yet, still NCAA eligible

Getting Verhoeff and Reschny for next year is looking better and better everyday. I did not think this many players would stay in juniors, especially after those two committed at the end of May.

I always thought it was possible, since all of these guys went major junior under the old rules, showing that they didn't have a burning desire to go NCAA. NHL teams have almost always signed their high pick major junior guys right away to ELCs, so the old trend continues even with the new rules. We'll see how the hockey world adjusts over time.

Getting Reschny and Verhoeff for 2025-26 was an absolute steal by Chyzyk and Jackson, Berry probably doesn't pull in either.

Is he still committed to Boston College or was that never official?

Not committed, largely associated with a potential commitment if he doesn't sign his ELC

I sure hope that still needing to fill two forward roster spots for next year isn't hurting our recruiting efforts for Aug. 1! That's what worries me a bit that we may be spending more time than expected on next years roster. I'm sure they are still working crazy hard on Aug. 1 recruits though but don't want this taking time away or losing someone because of it.

I think that a guy like Chyz is able to do both pretty easily.  He's so connected in the recruiting world.
He was able to land Williams for 2026 right before he landed Reschny & Verhoeff for 2025.  Three very high end recruiting wins right there, all within a week or two.

A lot of these guys probably have the same advisors or advising agencies. He is in constant communication with advisors about their players, whether the player is 20 years old or 15. The work for the upcoming season is mostly done, he is just waiting on a very small group of players and what their decision will be.

One thing to note is that UND has a massive advantage in this recruiting cycle because Bryn has been working with and scouting these players all year in the USHL. Most of the players available August 1st are the players that were eligible for the USHL draft.

Should have known:  They got a lead and now they're coasting.

Jax can't even get his guys recruiting for an entire off-season.
They're not recruiting a full 365, that's for sure.

Like I said:   More of the same.   Time to Axe the Jax?
