chyzy is great...he is going to land chippas.  The biggest issue I see is that UND has not been the pro factory of the last 10 years it was the preceeding 20.  Many blue blood campuses are sexier than UND, and UND doesnt have NIL money to burn...

If you are a legit chipper right now, what differentiates UND positively from Minnesota, Michigan, Michigan State, BU, BC, Denver...gotta throw in ASU for the co-eds

Are we gonna see a Bat Signal from Chyz tomorrow?  Seems to have been landing on Friday's for the most part.

I am not sure but I have been getting the impression another commitment from a WHL player is just a matter of time.

culture and the Ralph don't count...

More than 1 acquisition this off-season has raved about the REA. In their interviews this spring, the most frequent answers new players have given for choosing UND are the coaching staff, facilities & the track-record of getting guys to the next level.

To put it another way, if you are a kid that is NHL bound...and every top school wants you...what is it right now that says UND?

Kids pick UND over a lot of top schools all of the time. Most, if not all, of UND’s offseason acquisitions were heavily perused by teams that have bigger pockets than us. Every kid prioritizes different things. Kids that love hockey are going to love UND. There are just as many reasons why a kid would pick UND as there is for why a kid wouldn’t. The only significant disadvantage in recruiting that UND has is money and I am not sure if those are the type of kids you want anyways.

The beauty of college hockey is that a kid like Riese Gaber could be just as, if not more, impactful than a first round pick and do it for a longer period of time. A first round pick sticks around for 1-2 years and leaves while Gaber was an impactful player for 4 years and bleeds green.

The good thing is that Minnesota has been doing f*** all in terms of getting elite recruits lately with the 2008s. Not sure if that's a Motzko problem or an overall historical program philosophical issue of almost never going after non Minnesotans.

If there's one blue blood program that is setup the worst to deal with this new CHL ruling, it is for sure Minnesota.

Academic wise, you’d assume it would be more challenging for a CHLer to meet requirements for a Big Ten school than UND.

Love to see what kind of loop holes these Big Ten schools are pulling to get some of these CHLers enrolled and up to snuff.

Not every hockey player, let alone CHLer has the student qualifications.

Most hockey players nowadays have decent, adequate grades. This isn't football or basketball where a good portion of guys actually struggle to hit certain GPA requirements.

Because you can count the number of Canadians that Minnesota has had on their roster in the past 40 years on both hands, they have almost zero connections in the minor hockey world across Canada. They have no idea who the elite players are coming up through the Western Canadian Sports School Academies (CSSHL) at places like Rink Hockey Academy, Burnaby Winter Club, Edge School, Delta Hockey Academy nor do they have any grasp of the elite players coming through the GTHL for organizations like the Don Mills Flyers, Toronto Marlboros, Mississauga Senators, Vaughan Kings, Toronto Red Wings, Toronto Jr Canadiens, etc. Motzko doesn't know (m)any of these coaches, has no pipeline to tap from to get a head start on recruiting.

Boston University, Michigan, Notre Dame, Penn State, Michigan State, and several others out east go to GTHL games all the time and are in those minor hockey rinks to recruit these kids during their u16 year. They have connections established with these organizations, coaches, & players.

Denver, North Dakota, Wisconsin, Nebraska Omaha, and others are at these CSSHL rinks to recruit kids during their u16 year. They have connections established with these organizations, coaches, & players.

Minnesota literally just looks at most kids birth certificate, sees if it says "Minnesota" or not, and then goes to Minnesota HS hockey rinks, some USHL as well. The Goofers don't attack recruiting to get the best players from all over, especially Canada. Say what you will about Michigan's "mercenary" approach, but they will leave no stone unturned to get as high end of talent as possible in every recruiting cycle.

I had a response typed out, saw you had replied and decided you had it covered lol.

To that point, could that be the very reason we got Will Zellers?   I know he decommitted after BU recruited another top draft pick candidate.

We got Zellers because he always wanted to play here.

Another point: This becomes a chicken & the egg situation: since Minnesota has almost always been a 90%+ Minnesotan roster, the Goofers really only appeal to Minnesotans. The Minnesota program doesn't really recruit non Minnesotans because they never have, nor are they convinced that non Minnesotans would be that interested in them. Non Minnesotans (especially Canadians) don't/rarely consider Minnesota because the program doesn't seem interested in them because they aren't from Minnesota. Yes, there are a few exceptions, but those aren't common. The only reason why Matthew Wood (Nanaimo, BC) ended up at Minnesota in the portal was because his dad was a Goofers women's assistant in the late 2000s/early 2010s, Matt had to contact Motzko to tell him he wanted to be there.
