Down 14 in 2nd half, never quit, pulled out a 72-71 Victory over Denver! made 15 - 3’s 🏀 15-28 (54%). Piekny an amazing 5-5 on 3's. Turnovers created a big hole for them to crawl out of; but crawl out of it they did; down 12 or 14 at one point in the 4th quarter, but outscored Denver 11-0 to close out the game. Good character win. 1 Quote
NewUndFan Posted Saturday at 09:51 PM Posted Saturday at 09:51 PM Good win today. You cant say this team hasnt improved over the year with Hutter. Wait until he can get his own recruits in there before we judge him. I need to learn this too. I had no hope at the beginning of the year, but now seeing signs. 3 Quote

Definitely has some pieces to work with if he can keep them in London Harris (she's going to be a baller; needs to work on her shooting, but I love her demeanor on the floor), Ava Miller (very impressed by her), Hillesheim, and Piekny. Don't know what Klosterbuer can bring, but she's only a sophomore. Impressed by the fact that Hutter says some of the players are coming to the gym 2 hours before gametime to work on their shooting, and it looks like it may be starting to pay off. 2 Quote

Ive been following the recruit from Arkansas coming next year. She seems to have some skills and tall. Hopefully translates to division 1. We need another scoring big with Miller. 1 Quote

EternalOptimist Posted Sunday at 09:58 PM Posted Sunday at 09:58 PM I wasn't able to watch the game live today. I see we won, but it looked closer than I would have thought. Should I watch it, or just check the box score and get the jist? Quote

Back to the old positive CoachDags! I honestly think maybe we win one more game this year unfortunately though..... BSC lost to UMary by 40 points and we struggled with them. I wonder where we would be ranked in Northern Sun? 1 Quote

UND would struggle with UMary, but you kind of have to take yesterday's game with a grain of salt, as UND is so much worse when Demers isn't playing. Compare the game vs. USD, where she played, and SDSU, where she didn't, as examples. 1 Quote

I agree, we may have a chance at the next 2 on the road, then the rest of the season looks really bleak. Then on to the SLT, probably seeded in the bottom 2-3 so going to be tough there too. Not the season of promise, I had hoped for, very few competitive games! Much like last 4-5 years, 20+ turnovers, very few assists, no great team play, poor shooting, no real offensive strategy, all equals poor results. 3 Quote
ND-fan Posted 22 hours ago Author Posted 22 hours ago This season was never going to be anything but transition year of changing culture of the program and begin developing young players for the future and we are seeing the beginning of this now as the season progresses. I don’t care what Hutter said at beginning what he said is what all coaches must say but he knew he had huge rebuild in front of us. Number of fans here don’t understand Und has fallen from where the program was 80’s to 2000’s. It’s been failure to invest in program and let our competitors pass us in recruiting, facilities, and being top regionally program in women’s basketball.. What we’re seeing now is beginning of our future players to build this program Harris, Hillesheim, and Miller making jump to where they are showing they can play at this level. Piekny, Volmer, Ohnstad and Harvey have made progress but need to make step forwards some of this improvement is to develop physically to play at this level and requires time and off season work but if they do this they could become very good players to move this team forward. Finally we need to recruit and sign players that can make immediate impact to compliment this group now developing. then we need athletic department that needs to invest in basketball resources so it can compete in our conference and nationally. If this is done we will see if our present leadership is up to the task but right now it appears we’re on track to rebuild our basketball programs.its not all the coach and never should have been but this team effort. 1 1 Quote
Popular Post UND92,96 Posted 21 hours ago Popular Post Posted 21 hours ago USD has shown that a program led by a coach in their second year can make a huge jump if they do well in the portal. The Coyotes returned pretty much no production from last year, and they are now 17-6, including a 19-point win over SDSU last week. It will be interesting to see if they can sustain that success beyond this season though, as most of the new players are seniors. The thing UND has going for it is that there are several young players who look like they can be solid role players in the future, so it's not going to be a matter of starting from scratch next year like USD did. But it's going to be imperative that some difference-makers are added in the offseason. 6 Quote
coachdags Posted 18 hours ago Posted 18 hours ago Word on the street, over/under on players lost next year is 8+ With Seniors and Graduate Players and ones that feel this is not the right fit, I believe this to be true. So you'd better find a way to replace half your roster every year and find a way to be competitive. I guess we will know on March 24th Quote

There definitely isnt 8 girls on that roster I would keep. Ava Miller could maybe come off the bench, none of our players would play a minute on NDSU or SDSU team. You are right, next year Hutter will see what he can do in the portal. I think he needs to make a better splash this time then last time. I am curious which players would you keep? I mean a few look ok against a BSC, but I am talking that compete against NDSU. Quote
UND1983 Posted 17 hours ago Posted 17 hours ago Its amazing how they can see what SDSU and USD looked like every single year for the last 10 years, yet rarely did they recruit even a few players that look like that. They don't even need to be as talented, but can they at least target body types? 1 Quote
iramurphy Posted 16 hours ago Posted 16 hours ago Duchscherer (Alabama softball, was outstanding HS BB player), Fricke (Minot, resumed play end Dec. averaging about 15 ppg), Sonnenberg ( Frazee,Mn averaging over 27 ppg) and Smith (6’ 2” from Arkansas playing well), are the four kids coming in this year. This is a very good group. I believe all 4 can contribute next year. Like first year players, the key will be how quickly they can adjust to a faster and more physical game. Quote

I do like the new recruits for next year, but 3 of them are coming from small town basketball. I hope it will translate to higher class of basketball. Also Duchscherer hasnt played in 4 years. On paper the recruits do look impressive, but we will see. Quote

Duchscherer - Class B standout who might know how to still dribble the ball. She's like $1 dog night just dangling it out in front of you giving us a fraction of hope and mystery. ( only reason she is coming here is because her boyfriend goes to school here) Fricke - Injury prone and has lost a step. UND only offer left on the table. Sonnenberg - Small town MN AA basketball. Take the 27 ppg with a grain of salt. Pretty sure no D1 offers. Smith - Not sure on the offers maybe only 1 or 2 D1 offers. Sounds like immediate impact players! If your team wasn't towards the top when NIL came out, you are screwed. There are no coaching freshmen up anymore. This is just a farm club team! The kids coming here have no other choices and are hoping for a good year and they are gone! We will be at the bottom unless some big NIL funds come rolling in. SAD! 1 Quote

Forgetting to mention that she had plenty of P5 interest before getting injured. Unfortunately probably a little too small for P5 basketball and the injuries didn't help either, but the Summit is the right level for her and I fully expect her to play a ton for us next year and play well. She is LEGIT! Quote
