We are sitting decent on the back end but we badly need forwards, especially up the middle No question UND needs the most help at Forward (especially Center). I'm looking at it from a standpoint of, if you add Ralph, would UND have a topflight D-core next year? One move. Add Homer. Solidifies Goaltending position. In two moves you would have a very high-end D / G. Working backwards. NFL draft philosophy of taking the best available player. 3 Quote

They'll get a couple solid portal forwards & I expect one or two big time CHLers (bigger names than Zakreski who is considered depth) coming in for 2025-26. We'll see what happens over the next couple months 2 Quote

cberkas Posted yesterday at 02:33 PM Author Posted yesterday at 02:33 PM Sounds like there will be USport players in the portal at some point Quote

I know it gets overlooked because it's a bunch CHLers who weren't good enough for pro and Junior A/Junior B guys not good enough for the NCAA, but there will be some solid guys who come down here. Which brings me to this, we take a no name recruit (I will allow them to use my name), we put that name on the jersey, then we use makeup to conceal the identity of Jonathan Toews and put him in that uniform. He can play half the game, and we are set. Oh, and if there is some NIL money to be thrown around, I would be glad to accept that. Quote

My insinuation is Toews played 2 years, he sues NCAA that the "turned pro forfeits eligibility" is unlawful, bing, bam, boom, Toews suits up for 2 more seasons... maybe to play with his son (I have no knowledge of his children) Quote

nascar99 Posted yesterday at 05:22 PM Posted yesterday at 05:22 PM Looks like Michigan will have to replace about half their roster as result of graduation, turning pro, and portal entries. They already have Perron added. Would seem like they're going to add a few more big names in the portal and go hard after a few big time CHLers Quote

Shawn-O Posted yesterday at 05:51 PM Posted yesterday at 05:51 PM Every time I look here it’s another kid headed to Western via the portal. Whatever Ferchweiler and Hertel are pitching, it’s resonating. 2 Quote

We used to worry about the elite prospects slipping away, now just any player going somewhere else brings the ire of fans. Bottom line is that Jackson was right, whoever you get needs to buy in and give it all for the program. Ferschweiler seems to have gotten his guys to buy in, and that is a big deal. Maybe he thinks he has the magic touch, but as we have seen one guy can upset the apple cart. Maybe he can get Whitelaw to become that team guy, but then again, maybe he upsets the apple cart that they have going. Quote

But long-term, we need to recruit and develop our own players (especially in goal). 1 Quote

AlphaMikeFoxtrot Posted yesterday at 06:42 PM Posted yesterday at 06:42 PM Mikey DeAngelo could be an option at center. Stats aren't great but that's not the whole story obviously. Quote

Not saying it's complaining because it is natural to want to see progress when teams are garnering commitments from the portal and seemingly no progress for us when we have holes to fill. But much as it takes a while for the younger players to make their decisions in the August period, some players are doing their due diligence and taking their time to make a decision, which is good. Now that all this press conference and stuff is out of the way, I am hoping we see some progress soon, because you know there is a lot going on behind the scenes. Quote
Speed_Kills Posted yesterday at 06:57 PM Posted yesterday at 06:57 PM Cam Berg was a portal pick-up as well. I would say a lot of the portal players that UND has historically picked up also have that "bleed green" attribute. Not every single portal pick-up is going to work out. But it's part of the process now. 2 Quote
