Not with that attitude

I don't think my attitude will have anything to do with where he commits.  Let's be honest here, the first thing that has to happen is start beating out SU on some of these commits, they've owned the area for recruits.  Who's the last kid who committed to the Hawks over them?  Some will say Belquist but SU decided, wrongly I might add, to offer someone else over him. Huge mistake on their part but we all know he would have went their over the Hawks had they offered more than a partial or Walk On, after all his Dad is an alumni.  Good for the Hawks but I wouldn't call it a recruiting win.

O lineman from this year...Wagner??  He had an SU offer as well but he waited too long.  By the time he committed they had 3 OL commits, all 3 stars by the way.  You can look these things up on 247.  It's a good recruiting resource complete with timelines on offer and commit dates.

IMO opinion some of those recruiting battles need to be won before the tide begins to turn in the Hawks favor.

What's Bo up to now?  Is he hoping to get drafted?  His going to UND was good for UND but a case can be made not for Bo.  If he would have had a qb to show case his talents he might have been invited to one of the senior bowls and offered a spot for the NFL combine.  Just my opinion.

I could not agree more. I've followed recruiting pretty closely over the years. The strategy is night and day different over previous years. They are targeting a higher level of athlete overall, being more aggressive, offering much earlier. They have 30+ offers and it's not even mid-February. You can just tell there's a confidence that wasn't there before. I believe this coaching staff believes they can win these battles. We'll see if they can seal the deal with some of these. I'm so excited for the future of this program.

You are correct when it comes to coaches and admin, but not mine personally.

According to the recruiting tracker post on the previous page, there are 5 competing offers with SU.  If they could win 2 of these outright it would be a huge step in the right direction.  By outright I don't mean committing here after SU offer is no longer on the table, would still be a good get, just not an over the top win.

@geaux_sioux is right. You’re mistaken.

Attitude is incredibly important. Expectations matter, even down to the individual supporter level, especially in this day and age of college football. FCS football can be quickly influenced by the followers given the current landscape and size of these programs.

Do we (that’s right, we, even the fans on this forum) want UND to improve or be maintained?

Improvement requires a positive attitude and buy-in. Do your part. Attend games, buy tickets, contribute to the collective, and most importantly, start expecting UND football to become the best in the FCS. Re-ignite rivalries and competition and do not be complacent with the status quo.

Mind over matter. Get it done.

And these kids who are getting recruited can tell the difference in energy level amongst the various coaching staffs recruiting them. Schmidt and company are projecting energy, enthusiasm, positivity and an ambitious plan for greatness. That will make a difference.

It will be interesting to see how the recruiting battles play out in the next 9 months.   Anyone can offer a high end recruit.   The trick is to get them over other big name schools, especially the ones with FBS offers.   I think we are on the right path but the turnaround isn't going to happen overnight.

The gist of my post was more in the remainder of the statements/questions after the first sentence.

I really don't buy into the thinking that we didn't try to recruit high end players in the past and only offered those with DII offers.

Here is a partial list I found of 2024 offers that committed elsewhere.  We did compete with FBS and other FCS teams.  We just didn't land enough of them.

Thank you.  Goes to my original point, that is one thing that needs to change.  Just saying things feel different doesn't mean anything at this point, same things were said about Bubba when he took the reins.  Time will tell.

Except our facilities were garbage back in 2014.

And Schmidt seems to have an energy level that Bubba never seemed to be able to reach.

We are never going to outrecruit them.  Need to try and poach a couple along with finding some distance gems and piece it all together

Perhaps, but seems a bit pessimistic.

Winning solves everything. Pull a head to head win off or two against the school down south, and couple that with improved NIL collective dollars and facilities, and who knows what could happen. Why the f*ck can’t it be us? Some South Dakota State fans were fairly pessimistic back in circa 2014-2015 but the overall mission pushed forward and then look what happened to their program …

I imagine people said the same things in 1986. And we all know what happened next.

Exactly. It's a process. It doesn't happen overnight, but that doesn't mean it is impossible.

If we are going to have a defeatist attitude, we may as well go back down to Division 2.

Good lord. What a loser mentality. Unfortunately you’re not the only one who thinks like this. It’s a cancer in grand forks and at UND.

Amen. There’s a current mindset and expectation problem, for sure, but there’s also a solution in sight. Keep fighting and working for it and the solution will become reality, perhaps sooner than people think.
