I also question how attractive the UND job actually is in 2024.  Don't get me wrong, it's among the best, huge built in advantages.  But also maybe some unrealistic expectations of a natty every year.  So a guy like Larson or Mayotte may decide it's just better to be appreciated than deal with that.

Also, I have less knowledge of CC and Mayotte but Larson brings in a ton of portal guys and they usually perform excellently.  This year may be his best freshman class ever, but still not the blue chippaz people on this forum would expect.

As a coach if you aren’t coaching to win a national title, then why are you coaching? I wouldn’t want a coach here that runs away from expectations, I want players and coaches who thrive and expect the best out of everyone that comes here.

So not Brad Berry?

He might be trying to win but maybe the game has passed his style of coaching. It happens to all coaches.

I know I’m pretty much done watching until there is a new coach. If they make the tournament I’ll watch then but other than that who cares. They look like they do not care at all.

I wonder how much influence KEM has on the hockey coaching staff?  Could she have a  use for BB in Vegas? Sometimes you have to think outside the box....

BB was/is a players coach (buddy if you will), not the top dog buck stops here coach that is needed at the top.

Of course she has an influence on if Berry stays or goes. She pulled her donation at UNLV for “lack of university leadership. You don’t think if Chaves decided to not renew Berry, there wouldn’t be a fit come from her? The only way we are getting a new coach is if Berry steps down on his own accord.

I’m biased in this opinion but I am really bullish on Kris Mayotte. He has taken steps each and every year now at CC. He has pretty much flushed out the Haviland era in every way. I see him continuing to move the program forward this year as well. Watching them in every home game and most road games this year, they play with swagger, they play with snarl (as Starman likes to say), and they play with moxie. They’ve gotten bigger yet haven’t sacrificed the speed and skill necessary to compete.

I could see Mayotte doing some special things, bringing the program back to national relevance and then eventually moving on to a bigger more high profile program, giving Peter Mannino his shot at a head coaching gig as Mayotte’s replacement. Would UND ever consider going so far outside the box with a guy like Mayotte or Raboin as some have mentioned here? Would Mayotte even have any interest if such an opportunity arose?

He has gotten the program back to where it was under Owens/Lucia. Owens was a coach that stayed longer than he should have and with Haviland just not a good fit at the NCAA level set CC back a few years. Mayotte is exactly what CC needed and it's just a matter of time until we see the CC team of old.

Duluth is another team that I'm starting to think might need to move on from Sandy sooner than later.

I was watching St. Clouds first game or one of the first home games they had. One of the people on the broadcast I want to say Geno, but I think it was the rink side girl. It was brought up how Larson said this would be a down year and next year was going to be their year. Watching them it looks like they never skipped a beat from last season.

Nice to know that the success of the program is being held financially hostage by a wealthy woman who likes the HC's personality. And if that relationship is as tight as you suggest, then that is how you drive a program into the ground for the next 5-10 years. She in no way should have that much control over a position that has that much impact on the team; especially if she has a close connection to that person, because that renders her incapable of making a rational, impartial decision.

Btw, how do you know that she & Berry are buddy-buddy? I'm far removed from GF & I don't know the intricacies of UND athletics.

All I know this team has too much talent to play as bad as they do, what happened to Wilkie scored double digits last three years and comes here and nothing , calling Mac Swanson.

With Berry’s deal through 2025-26, the following alumni would be wise to keep the resume fresh:

KG, Smaby, St Clair, Keane, Simpson

Would you want someone affiliated with the current messy situation or clean house and go with a fresh new voice?

I have a hard time believing that she doesn't care if the team wins or not.

The mess I see is an obsolete style of play.

If I never see another stopped at his defensive dot, flat footed defenseman, looking for an outlet pass, instead of moving and skating, it’ll still be too soon.

Whenever and however BB moves on, I'd like to see a HC who is not only younger but whose prior playing experience or coaching strength is offense.   I get that D wins championships, but it would be nice to see more of the top offensive talent drawn to UND's program.   That said, I'd probably wait to see how the Canadian junior talent affects the recruiting balance.   Having coaches with strong western Canada ties might prove important.  Having someone with Sioux ties would be nice but only if that person is the best (or equal) candidate for other reasons.

I think they need a coach from outside the UND family and embraces the Fighting Hawks name.  Also the players don't address the coach by his nickname. They need a new culture based on the new name and a new focus.
