yzerman19 Posted Monday at 07:50 PM Posted Monday at 07:50 PM I feel like playing what if today, so what if and what would you do? Super high end talent, do you stay local? do you go to better league? better team? play up? It's the million dollar question plaguing youth hockey right now. There's no correct answer, but its always interesting discussion. Quote
Johnny Five Posted Monday at 09:39 PM Posted Monday at 09:39 PM Dickinson dominates BHS and Willy dominates Hazen. Final Bracket for WDA: TOP 1 Minot v 9 Dickinson: Minot sweeps 3-1 at Home and 6-1 on the road. 4 Mandan v 5 Jamestown: Teams split. Jamestown wins in Mandan 5-4 in OT, Mandan wins 5-4 in Jamestown in regulation. BOTTOM 2 CHS v 7 Williston: Century sweeps 7-2 in Bismarck and 4-3 in Willison. 3 Legacy v 6 Bott: Teams split with the Sabers winning 5-0 at home and getting Lumberdomed 3-2 in Bottineau. Reminder, Minot hasn't won the post season since 2006, which is wild in itself. From there? Hard to see seeds 1-4 advancing, where will the upsets fall? Quote

Nothing wrong with RR or GFC schedule. If you have a great SOPH and JR season and have done all you can in the EDC, I'd say the only reason to leave and forego your SR season is if you are Top 6 (maybe 9) NAHL caliber (4-6 Defense). Development keeps progressing with GF kids who stick it out and make a run at a title to boot. In the West? Easier to give up senior season IMO due to strength of schedule. 1 Quote

gfhockey Posted Tuesday at 12:02 AM Posted Tuesday at 12:02 AM I think anything the East teams can do to free up games to play more Minnesota teams the better the cities teams like coming up to Moorhead and egf on road trips of course you have to go back the next year but still good competition Quote
yzerman19 Posted Tuesday at 12:57 AM Posted Tuesday at 12:57 AM Top 6 or Top 4 in the CHL, USHL, or NTDP you should bounce...agree. Gotta compare against birth year nationally and internationally too, not the 2 year mid-year school year MN-DAK bands. Younger ages, I think that you should play at a level where you are 1.5-2 points per game...enough to be dominant, but not be ridiculous. If you can rack up 3+ points per game vs your age group or your league you should play up or switch leagues. I think you should do that vs your birth year ideally and in your town ideally. Quote

You are down to 4 Bantam AA teams and Minot didn't even field one this season. Take one kid off of GF and you have an A level team. The Bantam A level is more or less a glorified B1 level as at least half the teams shouldn't even be at that level. This is funny to me. Youth hockey numbers are higher than ever across ND. AA is just a new optional label for some A teams and A is a mix of A and B and B is the new C. GF bantam AA prove to be one of the best in the nation by being top 5 year after year in Bantam AA. And they lose to some of the other ND AA teams as often as the MN teams. 3 Quote

I wish that sentiment was true but having been involved in it for the last decade or so, it just isn't the case. GF biggest ally is playing two equal top level team in squirts and peewees. By the time those kids funnel down to the Aviators they are better off, the tiipity tops may leave but the rest of the BAA and BA players then seem to compete like hell with something to prove as they enter high school. Add in some really competent and coaching to the multi-generational depth and .......... That depth they create just laps the rest of the state. They do it right. IMHO and experiences. Quote
yzerman19 Posted Tuesday at 02:45 AM Posted Tuesday at 02:45 AM Not asking rhetorically, but how do you think they'd do against the big dogs in national bound AAA, factoring in birth year, so 2009 players would have graduated bantam and be playing 15O or higher. Quote

Man it depends there is suuuuch a huge variety in " AAA ". But in the real big established programs realm I think GF would be to the Chicago Missions as the rest of ND is to the Aviators. Quote

Shattuck has a goalie on that team that is roughly 6ft 5in tall, the other is actually from Moorhead. Quote
yzerman19 Posted Tuesday at 03:30 AM Posted Tuesday at 03:30 AM I think Moorhead has a line and a pairing of 2010s that can play with anybody. Depth would be the issue vs the blue blood AAAs- I'd think same of all the top Association teams Quote
