As I thought about this after last night’s loss, a few things were put into perspective for me.

I drove to Grand Forks with my youngest two boys for the weekend series on January 3rd and 4th, 2020.  Never in my wildest nightmares did I imagine what would happen to my life as I knew it since then - and I’m not just talking about Covid.

Fast-forward to March 2022 and I was able to enjoy a good weekend of hockey at the X with those same two boys as well as my best friend.  I also reunited with the band at the Hoggsbreath for the first time in really 4 years as the 2019 brunch consisted of all of 4-5 people since UND didn’t make the trip to St Paul.

I’m thankful that I had the chance to watch my favorite team in person for the first time in over two years and shake hands with some old friends once again.  Without the boys in green and white chasing a puck around, I would not have had the opportunity for either.

So we’ll close the books on the 2021-2022 season and I’ll look forward to next fall when we do it all over again.

Can’t wait.

Great way to put things in perspective MafiaMan! Sure wish Flo and I could have made to Hoggsbreath..

Sandy first team All-American. Love it. Kid's a stud and we'll all miss him at UND.

Nice!

Talent-wise that's a no-brainer, but I bet there's gonna be some butthurt UM fans after he got 1st team over Powers/Hughes despite missing half the season.

Some season end data ...

Quote

UND once again led the country in attendance, averaging 11,294 fans — 97.1 percent capacity at Ralph Engelstad Arena.

UND was the highest-drawing hockey team in North America outside the NHL, and second-highest in the world behind Bern SC (Switzerland). Some countries, like Germany, still had pandemic restrictions in place.

The Fighting Hawks also outdrew two NHL teams — the Buffalo Sabres and Ottawa Senators.

Random factoids:

  • The Big Ten Hockey Conference played its first season in 2013-14.
  • Through the 2013-14 season, Wisconsin led the nation (Kohl Center, 15k seats) in attendance.
  • UND (REA, 12k seats) leads nation in average attendance from 2014-15 through 2021-22 (eight seasons).

Conclusion:

Since the first season of BTHC play, Wisconsin's attendance has dropped and North Dakota leads the nation in average attendance,
