I am working on a collection if mini UND helmets for a display in my basement. I have the late 80's through now basically down through archival pictures, but am needing some help with the mid 80's and previous as all the pictures are black and white. For example, this image. Is it a white or gray helmet? Is the ND Kelly Green or darker? Was the stripe Green and white? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Did we ever use white helmets that you know of or can I assume when I see a light color its gray?

Here is a side pic of the helmets worn in 1981-1984.  I believe that is the same as that were worn in 1985 also.

Grey helmet and mask.  The ND doesn't show well in this pic but it was a dark forest green with white trim.

Can't see it on this picture but the stripes were as described in earlier post.

It is a light gray.  The pic above is probably from '79 or so based on the players and Wertz in it.  Those do look more silver there but ours were definitely grey in the early '80s

Would this be the right shade?

That pic is more tan than I remember.

Shoot. I might have to take some liberties, I'm hoping the pic is just bad lighting.

Take it outside in the sun and take a pic.

I don't have the shell yet. I was looking for a style that could most accurately represent the era. I have found darker grays, but the shells are more modern ones.

I just remember the 70's and 80's. I think in the sixties they probably had white helmets. In the mid 70s to mid 80s it was grey or silver helmets.

That picture would be from 1978 or 1980.  I would guess 1978.

I know #59 is Hilbert.  Who is #74?

wondering if that's Turgeon #93 in background.  If so, it would make it '80

#74 is Todd Thomas.

I'm not sure if that is Turgeon behind them or not.

I figured that was him but decided it would be easier to ask you than find an old roster. :)

Turgeon wore #43 in '82 so maybe that's not him.

#74 Looks like Gronk!!

All American Todd Thomas. Played for Kansas City Chiefs for about 3 years. Career cut short by injury. Was a Chemical Engineer. I was told he had over 45 patents. Unfortunately died young. I believe cut was cancer. One of the best to ever play here.

Think these pride stickers would have been a Forrest green? Also I had no idea we used to use them.

Kelly Green. That is All American Mike Deutsch. Drafted by the Bears. Did well and likely to make the team. I believe he had cervical spinal stenosis found on his last physical which ended his very promising NFL career. Great athlete. Also lettered in track. He knew what his assignment was on each play and usually knew that of his teammates. Huge thighs, ran low to the ground, very difficult for one guy to tackle. Fullback was Mark Belmore. Also very tough to tackle. Great blocker. My junior year we were playing UNLV in Vegas. They had a stud MLB who was trash talking and throwing racial slurs about the white boy. Belmore got pissed so we were lined up to run the next play and he yelled at him “ok you f’in n..... we running right here” and pointed to where the play was going and yelled “I’ll meet you there”. One of most violent collisions on FB field I have seen. Problem was he did same thing next play. We only gained about 4 yds on the two plays. These to RB’s could play on any team any era.
