SiouxVolley
Why not have two nickname? One for the hockey teams and one for all other sports? This is not without precedence, as Auburn has Tigers and the War Eagles cry, and Long Beach St has 49ers for most the their teams but Dirtbags for their baseball team in honor of their style and making the college world series several times. Long Beach St just goes by Beach on most of their unis, not 49ers. They sell separate Dirtbags uniforms and other merchandise. This kind of flies in the face of conventional wisdom, but Google went against conventional wisdom with their constantly changing Google themed search page (corporate logos are supposed to be totally consistent), which are very popular. Marketing wizards were wrong about Google changing search choice logos - it didn't create confusion about the brand and just served to make Google even more popular.Let the hockey teams be NoDaks and the other teams be Roughriders. There would be more merchandise to sell and all the teams would be honored, with hockey getting the special accolades it deserves. With NoDaks and Roughriders so close, and NoDaks as a favorite of hockey fans, why not give the fans what they want?It would be the perfect Solomonic solution, and not piss off either hockey or football fans. SIOUXFAN97
but I'm more of a basketball fan?
SiouxVolley
but I'm more of a basketball fan? It would be Roughriders for everything but hockey. If the hockey teams was NoDaks, nobody would be confused about where they are from.A NoDak uniform can be an interlocking ND, a skater, or even a Roughrider logo with NoDak in words. Hockey can use several uniform choices. With the fan base already pssed at a nickname change, why rub it in more with a new nickname they don't like? JohnboyND7
... Yeah nothing awkward about a bunch of people wearing NoDak apparel to a Roughrider game.

The two names can compliment each other. Edited October 25, 2015 by SiouxVolley

Siouxphan27
If going with two, since hockey was the least affected by sanctions, the obvious choice would be just keep Sioux for hockey, and Nodaks for all other sports.

Blackheart
Why don't each of UND's teams have their own separate nicknames?
82SiouxGuy
Why don't each of UND's teams have their own separate nicknames? They should just pick a bunch of words, and then use 2 different words for each game to make the nickname. Words like North, Dakota, Fighting, Stars, Roughriders, Hawks, Sundogs, Prairie and Aeros. One game they would be the North Hawks. The next the Fighting Aeros. The next the Dakota Aeros. Then North Dakota, or Roughrider Stars, or Fighting Sundogs, or Prairie Hawks. It would be kind of like the way the Oregon football team picks their uniforms. They could please just about everyone for at least a game or 2 per season. Just use the interlocking ND for the logo.
