Maysa is decent but not sure it has enough seating. Heard a rumor a year or 2 ago that Mary wanted to add women's hockey and build a place on campus but of course just a rumor. 1800 for the main arena in minot. Quote

Mary would be better off building an arena where Shiloh is. That is a drive to get fans to UMary if there was an arena there Quote

cberkas Posted March 18 Author Posted March 18 https://stanforddaily.com/2013/01/30/proposal-for-on-campus-ice-rink-dropped-by-university/ Stanford canceling their proposal for a on campus rink and feasibility study. Not sure why the team raised money for a feasibility study when College Hockey Inc/NHL pays for it. They might bring the idea back up again in the future. Quote
cberkas Posted March 19 Author Posted March 19 Could them playing NCAA D1 teams helping them prepare for their first ACHA National Title lead to other ACHA teams wanting to play NCAA teams? Congrats to UNLV Quote
cberkas Posted March 22 Author Posted March 22 Not men's hockey, but Liberty University women's ACHA D1 team won their 6th title in the last 8 years (7 in the last 10). Might be time to move up Liberty and maybe that get the men's team to move up. Quote

It was brought up as who (schools without football) that Adam Wodon and Mike McMahon on CHN insiders when it’s been asked on who do they see adding hockey. I could see it being possible, I did find it interesting that Creighton plays or claim Ralston Arena as their home arena. They also play at Baxter Arena’s second sheet of ice. Quote

Illinois has the funding/arena issue, but it would be great for them with the number of D1 players coming out of the state (vast majority in Chicago suburbs), plus great rivalries right away with Wisconsin, Notre Dame, and others in the B1G. Iowa has the ECHL rink right outside of Iowa City in Coralville, but I just don't think they have the funding/interest right now. It's a football first and second, wrestling third, basketball fourth school, but they'd have great rivalries right away with Minnesota and Wisconsin. Plenty of casual hockey interest in Iowa with the USHL presence there. 1 Quote
cberkas Posted March 23 Author Posted March 23 For a team that would move up for a conference, that a good crowd for a D3 team. 3 Quote

They have the name and the team wouldn't be overshadowed by an FBS FB program. Hockey would be a great way for them to grow their brand as they could easily become THE state's NCAA hockey program. They have a large student body and the arena they would use already exists downtown, and it's nearly perfect for college hockey. It may be a little big for their average game, but it isn't so large they'd never be able to sell it out... 1 Quote
