College Hockey Expansion

The Islander’s new practice facility looks to have some significant seating in one of the arenas.  It is located in western Nassau county, a relatively short distance to the new Islanders arena being constructed at Belmont Park in Queens near the Nassau county line.

The recent DI move for the Post campus of LIU could have a DI men’s team there.  LIU-Brooklyn earlier announced a women’s team apparently to play in the Bronx.  The LIU campuses will be united under one LIU flag.   LIU would be a perfect fit for the Atlantic Hockey Conference.

“When you think of youth hockey these days, they used to call them non-traditional markets – California, Arizona, Illinois, which doesn’t have a D1 college hockey team – those are areas that rightfully need to expand [to NCAA Division I hockey],” said North Dakota coach Brad Berry. “For us to go out and play Minnesota out in Vegas, hopefully it brings exposure to the D1 college game.

I wonder if @SiouxVolley has a board that looks something like this?

That’s only your tiny brain because you only deal in linear concepts, not mulidimensional ones.  Saw your blog on the NCHC being so wise not to accept Ariz St.  Only a moron would state that when they get a 4000 seat arena.  It not worth explaining anything to you be cause you have the patience of a two year old.

Oakland U has supposedly passed the NHL feasibility study with flying colors.  But the AD has left Oakland so the project was put on hold for funding an on campus arena and finding a conference.

FYI Oakland is reportedly in serious talks to buy the Palace of Auburn Hills, former home of the Detroit Pistons.

That a great find!  If that arena doesn’t sell, will it be demolished?  Think of the curtains that would be needed.  Huge facility almost like the now departed SilverDome.

Would Oakland play in the WCHA?  Or later add Oakland and Bowling Green to the NCHC?  Detroit would be by far the biggest metro.

Here’s another article that says Oakland buying the Palace won’t happen.  But the author seems totally unaware that Oakland needs an arena to start hockey.  The Palace of Auburn Hills is just a couple of miles from campus.

Beer league friend was in San Jose for his son's tournament and heard that Fresno State used one of the NHL sponsored feasibility studies.  Pure gossip but you never know.  Would have expected the city to have an AHL team by now after the California relocation.

Sharks and their AHL team both play at SAP Center. One of the few NHL teams that play at the same place as their AHL team.

Fresno actually has two rinks they can use.  The Selland Arena downtown (7000) or the Save Mart Arena on campus (13,000?)

Fresno St wants and needs a conference where it on par with PAC 12 schools.

San Jose St doesn’t have money or boosters and San Diego St badly needs football facilities.  Fresno St might be the best hockey option in California outside the PAC schools.

Message boards don’t have to have verified articles.  Speculation is actually ok for discussion.  Unless you’re like Goon who thinks he is a bona fide journalist.

The Twitter handle is know to be wrong and was just for sale.

Playing Pac 12 hockey is probably Fresno's best bet for getting on their TV channel.

Article of what potential uses and benefits to Oakland U if they buy the huge Palace of Auburn Hills.

https://www.detroitnews.com/story/sports/college/2018/10/26/paul-oakland-universitys-potential-uses-palace-limitless-and-mysterious/1775464002/

Gores the Detroit Pistons owner may actually gift the Palace and come out better on his taxes, as the cost of demolishing it would be huge.  Other potential owners want the land, not an arena.
