EWU will be good this year but tough not to put FU at #1.

A good argument could be made for either one of them.

It could be short lived at the top for both of them if they lose their FBS games because SELA will be 2-0 going into their Sept 13th game at Tulane.

But, if the ac goes out and beats ISU, they will likely have a stranglehold on the poll until they head to Brookings in November.

I don't see EWU winning in Seattle on Sept 6th.

NDSU returns way more than people are giving them credit for. The dropoff will be in coaching not talent.

Umm, they lose a 4-year starting QB that has won the most games in FCS history - that in my opinion is talent lost.

Not only that, they lose Billy Turner (NFL), Ryan Smith (CFL), Marcus Williams (NFL), and Bryan Shepherd (NFL), just to name a few that went on to play professionally.

They will be down talent.

Their d will be just fine. Both safeties are studs LBs are studs. The only question will be at DT where they have a few supremely talented fr stepping up. The main losses are in the leadership aspect without Olsen and Jensen and on the OL but they always seem to be able to reload there. I'd like them to suck as much as the next guy but they have too much talent waiting in the wings that will contribute this year for there to be a major drop off. That said, it's still football and anything can happen.

..... So since when does NDSU head to Bookings?

I'm sorry but these preseason polls are a joke. there is absolutely no reason NDSU should be ranked #1. yes, they have won the last three titles but will be lucky to make the post season this year with all their losses to graduation and a new coaching staff. the poll is for who you think will be number one at the end of the year not who won it last year or the year before or year before.

Two comments:

1) Be prepared to be reminded of your comment regarding "SU being lucky to make the playoffs" about four months from now!

2) This is a UND website - why in the helll are we wasting any time talking about SU??

Two Replies

1) NDSU may make the playoffs, but they won't be a top 5 team.

2) This thread is about FCS Preseason Polls, which have NDSU at either #1 or #2; therefore, they are a hot topic regarding preseason polls.

So I assume you believe they shouldn't be favored vs Iowa State either?

This is a delusional post. As Geaux_Sioux pointed out, the defense will be as good if not better than last year, with 2 safeties and 2 LB's with pro potential. And as great as Jensen was, Wendt has a higher upside physically and from all accounts has the leadership and intelligence too. If their O line holds up, they won't lose more than 2 games.

I wouldn't go that far.... I think teams will run the ball reasonably well on us this year.... At least compared to the last couple years.

Wendt is untested, coming into a game with a 40 point lead isn't much of a challenge, plus another big factor you Bison fans are overlooking.....you don't have Craig Bohl, you have a new head coach, and not every coach is going to be a clone of its predecessor (Babich, Mussman)

Three time defending FCS champions.

Yeah, they should be ranked #1 to start the season.  They probably won't be there after the first few weeks, but that's where they deserve to start.

It's all downhill from here for them.

It's all uphill for UND.

So the defense will be better this year?

And Wentz will be better than Jenson?

You're delusional...
