SWSiouxMN Posted November 13, 2012 Posted November 13, 2012 Hawaii took down Houston Baptist 73-60 during the tip off marathon. They played at 3AM our time Currently watching the replay on ESPN3 Quote
SWSiouxMN Posted November 13, 2012 Posted November 13, 2012 How did they look? I can see why some people have them picked as a sleeper this year in the Big West. Their Center #15 Joaquin, is a beast. He is coming off of MCL surgery and they are slowly working him back in. He went for 20-10 in 26 minutes. He is around 6'10-6'11 and he thrives in the paint, but he will shoot the mid-range jumper as well. If you don't respect him, he will take a 3. Their Forward #21 Brereton is their sharpshooter, while he was off on this game he is shooting so far 47.1% from behind the arch. Gotta have to keep tabs on him. Their other Forward #34 Standhardinger is their leading scorer right now and he loves to crash the boards and get the dirty points. Very good motor They got a lot of easy looks and lay-ups, but they struggled in shooting the 3 in this game, but they can light it up (went 11-24 against A-PB). They also shot well from the line. They are very well coached as Gib Arnold has really turned that program around. He has really spanned the globe in getting players to come to Hawaii and also getting the transfers to come. We will have to play very well against these guys. HBU did get a lot of open mid-range looks in the first half but they couldn't bury them at all. Quote
SWSiouxMN Posted November 23, 2012 Posted November 23, 2012 future opponent UMKC is on the Big Ten Network as they take on #3 Ohio State at 5:00 Quote
WILDCAT Posted November 29, 2012 Posted November 29, 2012 Weber State and the Big Sky got a good win last night, Weber State knocked off Dayton on the road.62-61 Quote

SWSiouxMN Posted December 5, 2012 Posted December 5, 2012 Found this little link while on egriz, kinda cool to see how we stack up right now against other teams in our conference stats wise. http://www.griz.net/stats-2012-12-03/ Quote
sioux2013 Posted December 5, 2012 Posted December 5, 2012 Who would ever think our highest ranked stat in the nation is free throw percentage after last year. Thats so strange. Quote
bincitysioux Posted December 17, 2012 Posted December 17, 2012 I see where South Dakota St. beat Montana in double OT in Missoula on Saturday night. The Big Sky is 14-57 vs DI opponents with non-conference play mostly wrapped up. Not very impressive....................... Quote

The Big Sky is 14-57 vs DI opponents with non-conference play mostly wrapped up. Not very impressive....................... The significant news from that game is that Montana finally got the return Will Cherry, the presumed favorite for Big Sky player of the year, and his rust showed in this game. He will improve over time, but they got killed on the boards and had a chance to win the game TWICE from the line (sound familiar?) and didn't get it done. Wolters shot 5-21 from the field, but was picked up by Fiegen and Dysktra. Yeah, not good. The best win the Sky got IMO was Weber knocking off Dayton. Not only do we start conference play tonight against SUU, but NAU and Montana State will get it on in Flagstaff. Quote
bincitysioux Posted December 18, 2012 Posted December 18, 2012 The Montana St. @ Northern Arizona game is on now on 695 on DirectTV. Fox Sports Arizona........ Quote
SWSiouxMN Posted December 18, 2012 Posted December 18, 2012 NAU is taking it to Montana State 46-28 at the half. Quote
bincitysioux Posted December 18, 2012 Posted December 18, 2012 NAU has a freshman point guard that looks very good. Quote

Cherry only played about 10 or 12 minutes and not very well, he's only been practicing about 10 days so it might take a couple weeks to get up to speed, then Montana should improve quite a bit. Montana State has not been good so far, I'm surprised they kept it close at NAU. Quote
NODAK13 Posted December 19, 2012 Posted December 19, 2012 Future opponent Bowling Green is hanging with #20 Michigan State in the 2nd half and are only down 4 with 17 minutes to go. What worries me is they are getting a lot of offensive rebounds against the bigs of Michigan State. Thats not good for us. Quote
NODAK13 Posted December 19, 2012 Posted December 19, 2012 Michigan State beat Bowling Green by 11. Close game until last couple of minutes. Quote

dakotadan Posted December 23, 2012 Author Posted December 23, 2012 While we continue to under perform, Brookings U just defeated #16 and previously undefeated New Mexico 70-65. Quite the win for their program. Quote
dakotadan Posted December 23, 2012 Author Posted December 23, 2012 Kansas State just upset #8 Florida 67-61. Quote

bincitysioux Posted December 27, 2012 Posted December 27, 2012 Surprised by the SUU number. Watching that game, it looked there were at most 500 people there, and that is generous........ Quote
Teeder11 Posted December 27, 2012 Posted December 27, 2012 Surprised by the SUU number. Watching that game, it looked there were at most 500 people there, and that is generous........ That's the same way the Betty looks on Midco broadcasts because of the vantage that the cameras shoot from (west side shooting east). Because we are local we know that the west side seats fill up fairly decently, at least, in the lower deck. The other side is usually pretty sparse, and the students zones are atrocious. Granted one of the games I saw was against Northern Colorado and the students were gone already. Quote
