GeauxSioux Posted May 29, 2012 Posted May 29, 2012 UND athletics: The big jump to the Big Sky Sioux athletic director Brian Faison feels the moves made during the transition have prepared UND to step into the Big Sky and be a player immediately. “I think across the board, we’re stronger and more competitive,” he said. “We know we’re stepping up. I think the programs have reached a point where they can do that.” Faison said one area of concern, though, is facilities, specifically securing the necessary funds for the proposed indoor practice facility. “That will be critical,” he said. Smoggy Posted May 29, 2012 Posted May 29, 2012 Some comments that Tom Miller got from Doug Fullerton. Some of the same stuff but a bit on UND. On whether other Big Sky schools view UND as on too much of an island for travel, etc: “Maybe deep down in their heart, some would rather not travel out there. But we made a commitment because UND was the right kind of institution. That’s such a key for us. Unlike other conferences, our stability comes from finding similar institutions and regional rivalries. UND might be out of the footprint a little, but there’s a great history between North Dakota and Montana schools.” Quote
breakin face Posted May 30, 2012 Posted May 30, 2012 So the sky isn't falling? It seems like Fullerton doesn't see us on the chopping block quite like some would lead you to believe. Quote
FSSD Posted May 30, 2012 Posted May 30, 2012 So the sky isn't falling? It seems like Fullerton doesn't see us on the chopping block quite like some would lead you to believe. I believe that they talked about the long term impacts to UND if the name was retained. Quote
fightingsioux4life Posted May 31, 2012 Posted May 31, 2012 So the sky isn't falling? It seems like Fullerton doesn't see us on the chopping block quite like some would lead you to believe. The Big Sky isn't going to kick us out unless it is almost 100% certain that the name and logo will be retained forever. And that won't be known until 2013 at the earliest. Let us all hope that they don't decide they are sick and tired of us screwing around with this issue and give us the boot. It would spell the end of athletics at UND. Quote

GeauxSioux Posted June 4, 2012 Posted June 4, 2012 League Announces Championship Schedules/Formats In less than a month, the Big Sky Conference will officially welcome Southern Utah University and the University of North Dakota as full members, and also admit UC Davis and Cal Poly as football affiliate members. The additions will bring the Big Sky to 11 full members and 13 football-playing schools. Four of the original six charter members of the league – Idaho State University, The University of Montana, Montana State University and Weber State University - still call the Big Sky Conference home. Northern Arizona, which joined the league in 1970, gives the Big Sky five members with at least 40 years of continuous membership. The upcoming expansion means plenty of changes for the upcoming intercollegiate athletic season. PDF of Release I love some of these locations for championships.... Cross Country.... Flagstaff Golf.... Chandler AZ Tennis .... Gold River CA Outdoor Track and Field ... Portland 2 Quote
