  1. Glad I could help. If you want to honor teddy Roosevelt, fine. But try finding something that relates to North Dakota, to honor him with. You've got about 11 hours to come up with something. a man who was from New York, spent a small fraction of his life in North Dakota, said he liked it here, led a cavalry from an entirely different area of the country....that is how we arrive at a nickname for North Dakota? Really? The tangential leap involved is just too much for me. Just my own, un-obtuse opinion.
  2. Calling me obtuse kinda loses it's punch when you fail to make a complete sentence out of it. My point above was I find it ironic some people are totally against North Stars since it's been used by Minnesota, yet, Roughriders is fine with them despite already being the name of a local high school, and an inaccurate 'honoring' of North Dakota history.
  3. They are the Roughriders because apparently no one in that school district knows anything about American history.
  4. I agree.... It's sort of the same hypocrisy as being in favor of Roughriders which brings to mind a cavalry from New Mexico, Arizona, and other southwest states- but then not being in favor of North Stars, which brings to mind a neighboring state. For the record, both names suck. :-)
  5. Exactly. Look at the thousands of posts made on the nickname- and there hasn't been an idea yet that even half of us can agree on.
  6. I must be on your "ignore" list. Lol. I'll try and state my reasonings yet again later tonight.
  7. UND Fighting Wisicu? The Fighty Whiteys? Only a few days left to submit more of these great nickname ideas!
  8. So if I understand correctly, the guy was fine with the premise of the movie on Monday. But by midweek, he and others were so ticked by the lack of authentic attire, they were offended enough to walk out? The sheer stupidity that goes into being "offended" never ceases to amaze.
  9. I suppose next you will tell us Adults whining for a new nickname is not childish. (Mother): Why are you crying little Timmy??? (sobs between words) "Because mommy, all the other little kids at school have nicknames and I don't! Waah waah waah!" "I see.... It's ok little Timmy... You don't need a nickname to be recognized- a nickname doesn't define who you are--- your actions, your accomplishments, those are the things that people will notice about you, and will define who you are." (Timmy, less sobbing): "really mommy? Thanks!" (Hugs) ~The More You Know~
  10. Good. Sid Hartman now stands alone on the Physically Unable to Annunciate List.
  11. I agree. But, hasn't stopped a bunch of people getting on board with the name Roughriders so we can apparently honor a volunteer cavalry from New Mexico and it's surrounding areas.
  12. Dinner at Perkins for the winner?
  13. Congrats on Minard Hall.
  14. Sorry- thought that would be reflected in their season ticket prices as well for a nice $25 x 19000+ bump for this game, and similar for 2019.
  15. They'll be enjoying an extra million dollars in ticket sales while eating that crow by the time this two game series is done. Plus, they're paying way too little for the games themselves. UND really George Costanza'd this deal.
  16. Oh, I get it now. You're saying UND hockey players are not mentally tough, put themselves above the team, and are entitled, thus the programs are not apples to apples. Go home troll breath.
  17. The benefit of having a better coach for years to come far outweighs the loss of a few unproven recruits if they decided to transfer because of a coaching change.
  18. So let me see if I have this straight.... The people wanting to remain nickname - less are chastised for the effects it will have on merchandising.... because the people that want a new nickname will then refuse to continue to support UND merchandise sales? Got it . Pot, meet kettle.
  19. I'm no rocket scientist (as if you needed clarification) but I'm pretty sure the sexually indifferent sons to the south of us will find a way to make fun of any new nickname, if one is chosen. Hell, they're even invited to take part in the nickname process. That alone makes this entire naming process FUBAR.

    Timing

These are mostly examples of professional teams leaving a town. I would guess if UND gave Grand Forks the finger and left town, the odds of people moving on would be increased, as there would be no team left here to cheer for.
  21. Your post is way funnier now.
  22. And we thank you, Bison Dung, for your continued interest in Sioux sports.
  23. I'm having a hard time deciding which nickname choices to submit. I've narrowed it down to three categories, with three choices within each category: Category #1: War-based fighting groups that never set foot in North Dakota, and have no historical influence on our state: A: Roughriders B: Russian Red Army C: Isis (at least I hope they're not here) Category #2: Local Electric Power Cooperatives A: Nodaks B: Sheyenne Valleys C: Ottertails Category #3: Dumb sounding rhymes: A: North Dakota Nokotas B: North Dakota Togas C: North Dakota Abe Vigodas On second thought, I think i'll go with just remaining as North Dakota- no crazy nickname needed.
  24. I hear Nodak used all the time.......when discussing electricity.
  25. I agree. As a rule of thumb, division 1 victories per year should be greater than the number of paid basketball staff. I believe this is the expectation standard we currently have in place. Aiming high indeed.
