  1. It reminded me of the cover of the book Black Beauty. Or am i thinking of Black Booty?
  2. Stage 6 is indifference- not giving a flying Flickertail anymore. Most will never reach this stage, but a really dumb nickname will send a few people here.
  3. Is it too late to submit Fighting Grievers?
  4. With most names of any substance or relevance to the local area getting tossed out already, it appears "ridicule" is the part of this definition we will get to enjoy if a nickname is chosen. Go Big White Space Machine!
  5. To clear up any confusion, I said, and meant, no nickname is needed.
  6. People will still be yelling Fighting Sioux for years to come regardless. I think it's a good sign now that the process has started, more people are beginning to realize how fatally flawed this entire exercise is. Keep it as North Dakota. Dress up the interlocking logo with a few variations. For those in love with Teddy Roosevelt, make him a mascot. Or other people or things North Dakota-ish, make them mascots. There are lots of possibilities with just staying North Dakota.
  7. This is what the no nickname folks have already figured out. Seeing names like Arrows eliminated already, and fake made up birds and anything with the word green in front of it being moved forward in the process, further supports my fear the chosen name will be as mamby pamby as they come.
  8. Mr./Ms. Ermine- you seem to know a lot about the process of choosing a name- how have other schools handled the voting/decision making process? TIA
  9. Looks like some names were either left on or off either list due to spelling errors, so perhaps a keyword search used to sort names is partly to blame for some of the confusion. i.e. Berserkers is under consideration, while Berzerkers is not. And Roughriders is not under consideration, but a misspelled version of Roughriders made the under consideration list.
  10. Your last reply to me stated you would "love to hear what I have to say about ND high school nicknames... Are you capable of responding to me without starting out with an insult or calling names? You are 3-for-3 now. You seem very childish when you are proven wrong. In the future, please ignore posts of mine in which your opinion is different than mine, or in cases you cannot refute my points with anything besides insults and garbage. Thanks. We're done here.
  11. http://bismarcktribune.com/news/columnists/curt-eriksmoen/rough-rider-known-for-psychic-powers/article_26af1732-19cd-59b6-a9e2-ecd3af9dd287.html As the article states, just one North Dakotan- Jesse Langdon, was ever a member of the Roughriders. North Dakota Tourism has done a great job of brainwashing people over the years to believe the Roughriders had anything to do with North Dakota. One of those -say it enough times and people will believe it's true- deals.
  12. Sorry B-Squared- that post of mine you're referring to is what the kids nowadays refer to as sarcasm. In regard to the rest of your post; everyone realizes those schools you listed were not attempting to honor anything when they chose their nickname. So, it's really a silly point to try compare those names to UND's attempt at finding a name reflective of the state. On the UND nickname suggestion page, the third of the four suggested attributes for a nickname suggestion states: 3) Be representative of the state and region in a way that honors the traditions and heritage of the past but also looks to the future. the Roughriders were not a cavalry based in North Dakota. They never trained or fought in north Dakota. At best, a handful (after a little research, i discovered just one- Jesse Langdon- was from North Dakota) of the 1250+ men may have had north Dakota ties. Are we choosing a nickname to honor North Dakota, or are we choosing a nickname to honor Teddy Roosevelt?
  13. Glad I could help. If you want to honor teddy Roosevelt, fine. But try finding something that relates to North Dakota, to honor him with. You've got about 11 hours to come up with something. a man who was from New York, spent a small fraction of his life in North Dakota, said he liked it here, led a cavalry from an entirely different area of the country....that is how we arrive at a nickname for North Dakota? Really? The tangential leap involved is just too much for me. Just my own, un-obtuse opinion.
  14. Calling me obtuse kinda loses it's punch when you fail to make a complete sentence out of it. My point above was I find it ironic some people are totally against North Stars since it's been used by Minnesota, yet, Roughriders is fine with them despite already being the name of a local high school, and an inaccurate 'honoring' of North Dakota history.
  15. They are the Roughriders because apparently no one in that school district knows anything about American history.
  16. I agree.... It's sort of the same hypocrisy as being in favor of Roughriders which brings to mind a cavalry from New Mexico, Arizona, and other southwest states- but then not being in favor of North Stars, which brings to mind a neighboring state. For the record, both names suck. :-)
  17. Exactly. Look at the thousands of posts made on the nickname- and there hasn't been an idea yet that even half of us can agree on.
  18. I must be on your "ignore" list. Lol. I'll try and state my reasonings yet again later tonight.
  19. UND Fighting Wisicu? The Fighty Whiteys? Only a few days left to submit more of these great nickname ideas!
  20. So if I understand correctly, the guy was fine with the premise of the movie on Monday. But by midweek, he and others were so ticked by the lack of authentic attire, they were offended enough to walk out? The sheer stupidity that goes into being "offended" never ceases to amaze.
  21. I suppose next you will tell us Adults whining for a new nickname is not childish. (Mother): Why are you crying little Timmy??? (sobs between words) "Because mommy, all the other little kids at school have nicknames and I don't! Waah waah waah!" "I see.... It's ok little Timmy... You don't need a nickname to be recognized- a nickname doesn't define who you are--- your actions, your accomplishments, those are the things that people will notice about you, and will define who you are." (Timmy, less sobbing): "really mommy? Thanks!" (Hugs) ~The More You Know~
  22. Good. Sid Hartman now stands alone on the Physically Unable to Annunciate List.
  23. I agree. But, hasn't stopped a bunch of people getting on board with the name Roughriders so we can apparently honor a volunteer cavalry from New Mexico and it's surrounding areas.
