Of course the Big Sky was preferred to the Summit. Not sure if you're aware, but the Summit doesn't offer football. Without a coinciding football conference offer, the Summit was a worthless option for UND. Furthermore, why does what a non rival fan thinks about conferences, bother you enough to whine about it on their fan forum?

Or maybe just go with $hit Storm.... It aptly describes the transition to a new name.

I agree it gets rehashed a lot. But really, what else is there to talk about? Anyone that knows basketball realizes his teams will only go as far as their natural talent takes them. Sounds like some promising players coming in...I suppose we could talk about that instead. Maybe someone can start a new thread about how these newcomers will become fantastic team players that only grow and mature as players under the expert tutelage of Jones, and how his expert decision making and in game adjustments will only help them succeed as they run his effective offenses, and dominant defenses.

This is exactly the fear. of course the team will be better next year..... how could it get any worse?!?!?! So does Faison then look at the "improvement", and extend him again? This is the problem with the wait and see attitude. It's a never ending cycle of mediocrity. It's why the big time programs with enough money to buyout contracts never allow it to get to this point. We all know what he will do with this alleged talent coming in = nothing. They will go as far as their raw talent will take them. I was shocked when Jones was given his current contract. It was a ridiculous move on Faison's part, as I can't imagine there was a single school in the country seeking to steal Jones away from us at the time. And right now, you couldn't give him away for a pair of Adidas shoes.

Maybe Jones could get a job as a Frolf (Frisbee Golf) coach? Or maybe our very own poster Art Vandalay could get him a job in Latex. I don't think we can worry about the level of commitment the recruits have to UND. Getting a coach in here that actually develops talent and through his coaching ability puts the team in a position to win is more important to the overall health of the program than the possible loss of a recruit or two.

Just because people think he should be fired, doesn't mean we think its likely. But we can dream- that's what message boards are for. 6 minutes left in first half, and no one has bothered to post on the game. Quite telling. The fanbase is becoming indifferent. It will remain this way until a change is made. As for the game- I think I can sum it up with 4 letters: SSDD.

I had explained what Slippery Rock uses for a nickname. (Rock) You then, asked me if the ncaa ever considered their name hostile and abusive. I interpreted that as a rhetorical, smart aleck question. I responded in kind. I refuse to believe that anyone with the cognitive ability to log on to a website would be unsure if a rock- regardless of its adhesive properties- was considered hostile and abusive. This is off topic anyway. I'll let it stay on course with all these "great" nicknames everyone is coming up with. ;-)

I'll try make an analogy you might understand. Back when you were in the residence halls at ndsu, nearly everyone had their pet goat living in their door room. Unfortunately, yours died. ndsu ordered you to get a new goat, or you would be kicked out of school. But you did not want to bother with a new goat. And as you pointed out to the administration, your best friend JimBob across the hall did not have a goat, yet he was allowed to live in the dorms and not get kicked out of school. The End.

Not at all what i'm talking about when referring to leading. I'm fine with no new nickname. The old one would have just continued to cause problems even if "support" was granted from the tribes.

I don't see why my posts need to be 100% factual..... Please explain how you know the big bad NCAA will come after us like the Thought Police? Or please explain the delusional posts about the interlocking ND being banned by the NCAA as a possible new official logo? Look, I know those in charge will never have the balls to stay with the interlocking ND and go forward without a cutesy mascot. The fear mongering has all the sheep ready to jump off the cliff by May. When the "no nickname" option is officially taken off the table, my vote will be for UND Lemmings. Now, let's hear some more about those millions of merchandise dollars waiting to be raked in, with this "new" 100-years-late-to-the-nickname-party, mascot and logo!!! Will we even need to donate anymore, or will the new nickname cover all costs in the future?

You're correct, the world is changing. I said several pages ago, a hundred years from now no one will have a nickname. Everything is becoming offensive to somebody. The first time a longhorn breaks a leg running around a football field, or a bulldog dies of heat stroke in the end zone, animal nicknames will come under fire. Why play the stupid nickname game at all?

I guess the obvious question to ask then is, If fans of the circus continue to wear elephant t-shirts, will PETA sue Ringling and shut them down? And on what "fair" grounds?

Your bolded part makes my point, actually. The settlement assumes (correctly) the Fighting Sioux is the old nickname, and the old logo. Where in the agreement does it mention primary and secondary names and logos?
