A few weeks ago I attended a bison golf outing with a friend who is a scholarship donator to NDSU. The head of the teammakers told us they would be announcing COA soon. I asked him about going FBS and he stated that it is their belief that NDSU belongs in the second tier, whatever it's called. In other words FCS currently or if the power 5 split the FBS then they would like to join the second group of FBS. He said the MVFC and the summit league will not be happy with them announcing full COA but they feel they need to keep up with the MAC schools because that's who they believe they compete against for athletes.

I believe if you fast forward 20 years 2 things are a certainty 1. UND enrollment and donations to the athletic department will be higher than they currently are. 2. The problems that face the Native American communities will remain virtually unchanged. In other words UND will not be significantly harmed and the Native American community will not be significantly helped. It makes you wonder what all this is for. FEELINGS? Yep "you've hurt my feelings!" p.s. Both sides acting the same way.

I can live with Roughriders. This list has only 4 potential options on it, (Nodak, Roughriders, North Dakota and Cavalry a distant 4th). I just don't think North Dakota is a good choice, just feels boring and open to interpretation. I get why people want it but I don't think it's wise to make business decision based in spite. The others 11 choices are just plain dumb.

I like "Nodaks" because it can be associated with the sioux imagery that already adorns the REA. I don't think any of the other names can be seen this way. North Dakota works with it but I think it's unwise to not have a real nickname because the media will always use it's own (i.e. Green and White). I also think it should be "Nodak" without the "s".

During NDSU's down time they were coached by Rocky and Babich, also their AD was soliciting sex from undercover male cops in Omaha. UND had better people in charge at that time. Now during NDSU's current run they've had the better people in charge. It's leadership not scholarships that made the difference. Who's going to field the better leaders in this new era? Only time will tell

I have no idea if it has been discussed with any of the schools I mentioned, I just know it's been discussed with UND. I don't know if any of the other schools are even remotely interested. The football landscape is going to change a lot in the next few years and I think the big sky is just trying to in a strong position.

The selling point would be to give their other sports a solid conference. Again I'm not saying it's going to happen, I just know it's been talked about. I like the idea also but I'm sure it would be a tough sell in Fargo.

The PSU football program is on its way out. Idaho's football program is on a path back to the Big Sky. If and when that happens the commissioners plan would be to drop Cal Poly and Cal Davis also and then add USD, SDSU and NDSU making it a 14 team league split East and West. I'm not saying that's going to happen, just saying it's been discussed. But at the very least the PSU football program has one foot in the grave and the other on a banana peel!

I think "Nordiques" is French for northern people or northern hunter. There is not a lot of French in a Grand Forks, so how about "Jeger", it is Norwegian for hunter or sportsman. Future headline to read "The Jegs bomb the Bison!"

I was at the Robert Morris game, didn't think we could be worse than last year but was proven wrong. If Garmen is on the field it's the worst UND offense in the last 25 years. On the positive side I saw some young talent on the D, but not experienced enough to make a difference in this one. MSU 31 UND 6

I always thought they should have negotiated a name change to "Nodaks", and kept the logo. I don't think even the strongest critics of the name were offended by the logo. The name would have been unique but not tied directly to a tribe. It's in essence what we have now with the REA still displaying the logo everywhere but center ice.

Yes his dad was a very good running back for Edinburg in the late 80's. He was a strong back. hard to bring down. He played college football for Jamestown.

Interesting topic, I think they are almost mirror images of each other. Both FCS Football and College Hockey are not followed on a national level, only regional. Heyduke seems to have a lot of Facts, so I'll throw some out. 29.4% of NHL Players came from the college ranks in 2012-13 and 20.1% of NFL Players came from FCS in 2012-13. Not a big difference on the top level talent in each sport...
